会合，会う Nabu, the Open-Source Alexa 代案／選択肢
In my home, we've never spoken to Alexa or Siri, and I've never 信用d Google enough to say "okay" out loud (don't get me started on Gemini). But I've welcomed in Nabu, a 発言する／表明する assistant who now waits in most rooms of my home.
What Is Nabu?
Nabu is technically just one of several 指名するs you can use for 補助装置, a 解放する／自由な and open source 発言する／表明する assistant that serves as an 代案／選択肢 to those from アマゾン, Apple, and Google. 補助装置 is part of the Home Assistant 事業／計画（する） 申し込む／申し出d by the Open Home 創立／基礎, which 供給するs a smart home 壇・綱領・公約 you can 任命する／導入する on 金物類／武器類 you already own (or 購入（する） a pre-configured 見解／翻訳／版 that's all ready to go, like I did). Home Assistant is designed to run on your own 地元の wireless 網状組織, without 依存 on the cloud.
Since many of us are accustomed to controlling our smart lighting or setting the 気温 using smart （衆議院の）議長s, Home Assistant has a need for a 両立できる 発言する／表明する assistant. 補助装置―which I will now go 支援する to referring to as Nabu (you try 令状ing phrases like Home Assistant's 補助装置)―runs on a smart （衆議院の）議長 known as the Home Assistant 発言する／表明する Preview 版. As the 指名する 暗示するs, this isn't 目的（とする）d at everyday 消費者s just yet, but the 金物類／武器類 作品, and I have several of these （衆議院の）議長s 始める，決める up throughout my house.
Why You Might Want to Use Nabu
Nabu, like Home Assistant in general, is fully 解放する／自由な and open source. What 利益s does this 現実に 供給する you?
Nabu is built to be 機能の, not as an 試みる／企てる to turn the words you say into marketable （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） used to sell you more stuff, sell someone else 広告s, or just to be sold 完全な. Nabu is a 発言する／表明する assistant who you can talk to and 現実に 信用 what you say will remain 私的な.
There are two ways this is done. One 選択 is to use Nabu 完全に offline. 地元の-only 過程ing is a perk that isn't 利用できる from the 商業の-oriented 代案／選択肢s. I tried 地元の-only 発言する／表明する 過程ing with Home Assistant, and it worked, but it was やめる painful on my under-力／強力にするd 金物類／武器類. Fortunately, if you 選ぶ to use the cloud to 補助装置 with 発言する／表明する 過程ing, the 命令（する）s you speak aren't logged. Home Assistant Cloud uses the 企業 見解／翻訳／版 of Microsoft Azure to 過程 your 発言する／表明する (which Microsoft says does not 保持する or 蓄える／店 your data).
You can make Nabu your own in a way you can't with other 発言する／表明する assistants. As a 思い出の品, Nabu isn't the only wake word that Home Assistant's 発言する／表明する assistant can 答える／応じる to. There are two other 選択s: Mycroft and Jarvis. Nabu may be the cur rent default, but in the past, it was Mycroft. Nabu gets its 指名する from Nabu Casa, the 商業の partner of the Open Home 創立／基礎, which 基金s the latter's work through the sale of 金物類／武器類 and cloud subscriptions.
Nabu isn't 限られた／立憲的な to any one 発言する／表明する, either. You can switch between a couple dozen 選択s, most with different トンs. The 事業／計画（する） also supports a wide and growing number of languages, though the 発言する／表明するs 利用できる 変化させる between them.
What You Need to Run Nabu
First, you need Home Assistant. Whether you have 任命する／導入するd Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi or have 選ぶd to 購入（する） Home Assistant Green, the resulting ソフトウェア is the same.
That's not to say that all 取り付け・設備s of Home Assistant are 平等に 有能な, mind you. If you want to 過程 発言する／表明する 命令（する）s 完全に offline, then you would 利益 from 任命する／導入するing Home Assistant on a 小型の PC instead. The tradeoff, though, is cost and energy usage, since this is a 装置 that will still need to run 24/7.
Then you need a smart （衆議院の）議長 that can 登録（する） your 発言する／表明する. While it's possible to go DIY with this part too, it's easiest to 購入（する） Home Assistant 発言する／表明する Preview 版.
What Is Nabu Like to Use?
When I 始める，決める up my first Home Assistant 発言する／表明する Preview 版, I tried to 排他的に rely on 地元の-only 過程ing. Unfortunately, 過程ing this data on Home Assistant Green resulted in a painfully slow experience. 命令（する）s took 上向きs of several seconds to 過程, and they often failed without 知らせるing me. 支払う／賃金ing for a Home Assistant Cloud subscription and offloading this part to the cloud has 大いに 改善するd the experience. I'm happy to 支払う／賃金 for the subscription, since doing so supports continued 開発 of 解放する／自由な ソフトウェア and it's a transparent 商売／仕事 model. Nabu Casa is beholden to us, not companies buying 広告s in the background.
That said, Nabu is not a 減少（する）-in 交替／補充 for all the 仕事s yo u might already be accustomed to 成し遂げるing with Alexa, Google, or Siri. Nabu is a way to 支配（する）／統制する the smart 装置s in your home. It can be used to 始める，決める timers, 誘発する／引き起こす lights, turn on fans, adjust 気温, and play music. It can also reliably 追加する items to a shopping 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）.
Nabu does not search the web. It can't 供給する answers to general questions, nor does it understand natural language, at least out of the box. You can select an 存在するing large language model of your choice to 過程 your speech if you're comfortable funneling that （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） through a third party.
本人自身で, Nabu does everything I want of a smart （衆議院の）議長. Sadly, you do have to 熟考する／考慮する the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of 命令（する）s to learn the 権利 way to speak to it, or it will fail to do what you say. But after that, it 作品 reliably, which is no small thing to say about fully open 金物類／武器類.

With Home Assistant and 事柄-両立できる 装置s, it's ますます possible to build a high-tech home that isn't sending any more （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） about your daily habits than 正規の／正選手 old light switches and 出口s.
