Even $4,500 High-Tech Robot Lawn Mowers Can Lead to 失望／欲求不満
I recently moved to a house with a lot of land. As much as I love the ritual of mowing, trimming and 持続するing nearly five acres of （疑いを）晴らすd land and over an acre of lawn, I 簡単に don't have the time to do so week in and week out.
After six weeks with a Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD robot lawn mower, my hopes for a 始める，決める-it-and-forget-it experience have been 鎮圧するd. But this should be taken as a "what you need to know before buying a robot lawn mower," not an altogether 拒絶 of the 概念.
Not All Lawns Are Created Equal
I should be the 的 audience for a robot lawn mower (or a landscaping service, perhaps). And so, I took up Mammotion on an 申し込む／申し出 to review the LUBA 2 AWD 10000HX robot lawn mower. It has a whole litany of features, 含むing GPS and 4G, an AI-力／強力にする ed 見通し system for 反対する avoidance, two 高さ-adjustable cutting disks, trick wheels with all-wheel 運動 to 扱う hills, and enough 殴打／砲列 capacity to mow over an acre in one 発射. And yes, I can feel the question 泡ing up―this model costs $4,500, with lesser models starting at $2,600 (アマゾン only 在庫／株s the 1.25 acre variant for "only" $2,999). Even though they're often 割引d, that's a heck of a lot of money.
I knew I was setting up the Mammotion LUBA 2 for a 堅い go of things with my lawn. I have about an acre to mow, broken up into three 際立った areas: a 支援する lawn, 前線 lawn, and an 拡張 off the 前線 lawn 負かす／撃墜する to a （疑いを）晴らすing and pond. Each area has its own 可能性のある difficulties, and the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） is long, 含むing: trees, 石／投石する steps, a flower bed, drip rockery around the house, a home 発生させる人（物）, an AC 部隊, and 変化させるing hilly 地形. Beyond that, my lawn isn't defined by a 盗品故買者, 抑制（する）s or pavers, but instead high grasses and 小衝突. This is like a 実験（する） course you'd 始める，決める up to see how a robot lawn mower would 扱う a variety of 条件s.
To my surprise, the LUBA 2 AWD 現実に 扱うd these 障害s 井戸／弁護士席. The all-wheel 運動 system with trick 事情に応じて変わる wheels lets the mower take tight turns, and the 見通し system 避けるs 障害s very 井戸／弁護士席. にもかかわらず my 初期の 関心s about cutting 力／強力にする from 比較して small blades, it mowed 平等に and kept my grass tidy―albeit higher than I'd like it to be and certainly higher than the 高さ setting （人命などを）奪う，主張するd (the 2-インチ setting 削減（する） like my other mower 始める，決める to 3 インチs).
I knew this mower wouldn't be perfect or the only 維持／整備 my yard would ever need. I was just hoping that it would be good enough to save me from hours of monotonous mowing every week. For nearly two months it's been doing the middle 90% of dull 支援する-and-前へ／外へ mowing on wide 列s of my lawn every couple of days to keep it in 一般に good 形態／調整. When I have time on a 無作為の afternoon or 週末, I finish up the finer points with my walking mower and trimmer. It smartly 変化させるs its pattern each time, will 二塁打-mow patterns (if you have a smaller lawn), and 削減するs the perimeter last for a very clean look.
With this much lawn, though, it's pretty much always mowing. Is that a problem? No, not really. But it starts to show the 制限s of having a robot mower for this large a lawn. It takes about 6 hours to mow one of my lawn areas (1/3 of an acre, or 14,000 sqft), more often than not 要求するing a recharge in the middle. With three zones of this size, we're talking about mowing a section every 選び出す／独身 day ーするために keep everything short, and when you factor in the mower smartly skipping mowing on 雨の days, I'm certainly 押し進めるing the 限界s of what it's 有能な of 持続するing.
Funny enough, it does mow in the dark and has lights to help with 反対する avoidance and keep critters away, though it needs to slow 負かす／撃墜する so much it's really only useful for finishing off 職業s rather than doing your whole lawn while you sleep.
いっそう少なく Time Mowing, More Time Babysitting
I won't dive into the 広範囲にわたる hassles I had with the 体制／機構 過程, because much of it may have been my (誤った) 仮定／引き受けること that it would be plug-and-play. Beyond that, there's much more 失望／欲求不満 to come in the daily use of the thing. But I'd say the biggest 問題／発行する （機の）カム with the mapping, 非難する, and 言及／関連 駅／配置する 体制／機構.
Unless you have a fully enclosed or 明確に 示すd lawn (like a 盗品故買者d backyard), you need to do a 十分な 手動式の GPS mapping of your mowing areas before you can start, 含むing mapping paths between the 非難する 駅／配置する and each area. Oh, and there's no way to edit a 地図／計画する. If you want to make a change, you have to start over from scratch. That's a lot of walking around when you have this much lawn to cover. As I 設立する out the hard way, if you get part of the way through a mapping 開会／開廷／会期 and the robot loses GPS or 関係 to the 言及／関連 駅／配置する, you're starting over again.
The LUBA 2 is also 特に picky about where you place the charger and its associated 言及／関連 駅／配置する―a 5-foot tall 政治家 with a large white beacon at the 最高の，を越す that relays your home internet out to the robot. You need to get both far enough away from the house that the 言及／関連 駅／配置する can talk to the robot (含むing on the other 味方する of your house, hopefully) but also so the robot can 現実に use GPS to find its charger. You're tethered to the house because both need 力／強力にする―thankfully, the 含むd cable is やめる long―and you're trying to find an area that is at least somewhat inconspicuous. This isn't the most aesthetically pleasing piece of 器具／備品 to have 駅／配置するd by my garage.
Perhaps I was naive in thinking that after I went through the arduous 体制／機構 過程, things would just work from there, but they most certainly did not work. While I 完全に stand by my 主張 that the LUBA 2 AWD is a 有能な robot mower and 扱うd my 巨大な lawn with its many 障害s, the 量 of babysitting and fiddling with it 要求するd in order for it to do so is beyond 失望させるing.
It was a rare occurrence that the mower made it through a 十分な mow without a GPS positioning fault. にもかかわらず living in a 田舎の, wide-open area with no buildings and 穏健な-高さ trees on a 比較して flat piece of land. Most of the time it'd pause with a GPS fault and 再開する several minutes later. The GPS faults were most 失望させるing when it （機の）カム to the mower finishing its mow and 存在 unable to find its charger, or even finding its charger and then （人命などを）奪う，主張するing the charger had moved, 要求するing me to remap its 場所 and pathways to the mowing areas.
In one instance, it was so 混乱させるd about where the charger was it got stuck and broke off one of its own 保護の 味方する guards on the charger.
The mower would also lose and then "find" GPS, only to 再開する its mowing on a different grid than it was 以前, leaving a big ぎこちない triangle or multi-foot gap of unmowed grass. Or, and this happened 多重の times, losing GPS while mowing the 辛勝する／優位s of a lawn area and finding itself 絡まるd in high grass or wrapped around a bush, 原因（となる）ing the 殴打／砲列 to drain 夜通し, for me to go find it stuck like a drunk frat kid as the sun rose the next morning. The 最新の big GPS fault unfortunately, happened on its second mow while I was on a two-week vacation, leaving me to return to a woefully overgrown lawn I spent days taming upon my return.
It all 追加するd up to a really 失望させるing experience. While yes, it saved me hours of time on my feet mowing every week, I often spent about half of that time saved 監視するing, tweaking, and stubbornly carrying around the robot to get 支援する on 仕事 and 現実に 完全にする a mow. A 逮捕する 肯定的な, for sure, but as someone who would rather "just get it done" and has a real perfectionist mindset, this doesn't work so 井戸／弁護士席 for me.
The 未来 of Lawn Mowing Is Here, It's Just Not Ready Yet
I put my experience with the LUBA 2 AWD robot mower into three 際立った buckets. There are 問題／発行するs that are 制限s inherent to a robot lawn mower, there are 問題／発行するs with this robot lawn mower, and there are 問題／発行するs that are 高度に 扶養家族 on the size and style of your lawn.
I've come to 条件 with the typical 制限s of robot lawn mowers. I don't 推定する／予想する any of them to perfectly 辛勝する／優位 my lawn, 削減（する） as low as a walking mower, mow tight around every 障害, or mow quickly. There's serious 公共事業（料金）／有用性 and value in a robot mower even with these caveats. And I'm 確かな that the LUBA 2, にもかかわらず its 欠陥s, 扱うs a lot of these 状況／情勢s better than lesser mowers without the all-wheel 運動, 殴打／砲列 capacity, 見通し system, or large 二重の cutting レコードs.
But the LUBA 2 AWD brings its own unique 始める，決める of 問題／発行するs, many of which are 堅い to get past. At this price, I find the GPS error 率 to be far too high. And for a 恐らく 前進するd AI-力／強力にするd 見通し system, it really shouldn't 攻撃する，衝突する any 障害s, ever―let alone multi-foot tall ones.
The 量 of work 要求するd to get the LUBA 2 AWD working 適切に on a 週刊誌 basis 削減（する）s 大幅に into the 量 of time it saves me mowing, and its 問題／発行するs and quirks 追加する up to the point where I'm not sure I could recommend it―at least, for anyone that has a large and variable lawn like I do. The 正規の／正選手 GPS 減少（する）-offs, far-from-perfect 反対する avoidance, and struggles with lawns not defined by 抑制（する）s or 盗品故買者s are enough to give me pause. That pause gets longer when I consider the price―again, the LUBA 2 AWD 範囲s from $2,600 to $4,500.
With the 権利 (much simpler) lawn 体制／機構, and for anyone who's already 支払う／賃金ing for a lawn care service, this could easily get you ahead cost-wise, and save you hours on your feet mowing wide 列s of grass. If you're willing to lower your 期待s of having a perfect lawn and を取り引きする some finicky quirks, give one a try.
