When OpenAI ³«»Ï¤¹¤ë¡¤ÂǤÁ¾å¤²¤ëd Sora 2, I couldn¡Çt wait to try it. The app Ìó«d cinematic ¥Ó¥Ç¥ª À¤Âå ÎÏ¡¿¶¯ÎϤˤ¹¤ëd by next-level AI, and everyone online was raving about it ¡½ that is, anyone who had managed to ÆÀÅÀ¤¹¤ë¡¿ÈóÆñ¤¹¤ë¡¿£²£° an ¾·ÂÔ¤¹¤ë code. I like watching people ¥¹¥Ô¡¼¥É¤ò½Ð¤¹¡¿µÏ¿¤Ë¤Ä¤±¤ë on to Sora 2 for the first time and seeing their ɽ¸½ as they scroll through what seems like endless 10-second ¥Ó¥Ç¥ªs that al l seem to blob together to encourage endless scrolling. But after a few days of using Sora 2, I realized something surprising ¡½ Sora 2 ½ý¤Ä¤±¤ës my brain.
The ÌäÂ꡿ȯ¹Ô¤¹¤ë isn¡Çt the ²Ê³Ø¡Ê¹©³Ø¡Ëµ»½Ñ, because the ¥Ó¥Ç¥ªs are all pretty good; it¡Çs the experience. Sora 2 has turned AI ¥Ó¥Ç¥ª À¤Âå into a social ÃÅ¡¦¹ËÎΡ¦¸øÌó of AI slop. There¡Çs a ÎÁ¶âd, a comment section, likes, remixes ¡½ all the trappings of TikTok. And that¡Çs the problem.
If I ¼êÇÛÃæ¤Î¡¤¤ª¿Ò¤Í¼Ô to scroll through endless short ¥Ó¥Ç¥ªs, I¡Çd go to TikTok. I don¡Çt need another app Á褦 for my attention with dopamine-drip brain rot content. I use AI ¥Ó¥Ç¥ª À¤Âå Æ»¶ñs for something different than what Sora 2 seems to be for. I enjoy creating something ʳµ¯¤µ¤»¤ëd and uniquely personal, not another distraction in a sea of ·¹¸þs.
The social ÈèÏ«¡¤¡Ê·³¤Î¡Ë»¨Ìò of Sora 2
Sora¡Çs community ÌÌ feels ¤¤¤Ã¤½¤¦¾¯¤Ê¤¯ like inspiration and more like overload; like a ¡Ê¿Í¤¬¡Ë·²¤¬¤ëd train ±Ø¡¿ÇÛÃÖ¤¹¤ë ½½Ê¬¤Ê of people going in different directions. Every time I open Sora, I was ˤ·â¤¹¤ëd with other people¡Çs ideas. It doesn¡Çt open to an empty »¨Ã̡ʤ¹¤ë¡Ë box, it opens to what feels like a an endless rave of hypnotic slop and memes. Instead of ưµ¡¤Å¤±¤ëing me, it made me feel like my imagination was ¸ºß boxed in.
That¡Çs when I realized Sora 2 isn¡Çt for creatives like me. What's worse, is that Sora 2 uses so much energy that OpenAI is Èô¤Ó¹þ¤ß deeper into ÁÈ¿¥¡¿´ðÈס¿²¼Éô¹½Â¤ with a new multi-year ¼è°ú¡¤¶¨Äê.
¤Ë¤è¤ì¤Ð OpenAI, the ȾƳÂÎÁÇ»Òs could ·ë¶É ÇÛ㤹¤ë up to 10 gigawatts of AI ·×»»¤¹¤ëing capacity, a level of energy ¼ûÍס¦Í׵᤹¤ë that ¶¥ÁèÁê¼ês the total electricity usage of some small countries.
Broadcom¡Çs ºß¸Ë¡¿³ô »¦Åþ¤¹¤ëd after the ¹ð¼¨, ¶¯Ä´¤¹¤ëing Åê»ñ²È ¿®ÍÑ¡¿¿®Ç¤ in the ̤Íè of custom AI accelerators. But the real story might be the energy ÂÀ×. At a time when AI is ¤Ë¤ï¤«·Êµ¤ing, and À½¿Þ¡¿ÃêÁª scrutiny for its úÁÇ and Åŵ¤¤Î ¾×·â, OpenAI¡Çs ambitions make it ¡Êµ¿¤¤¤ò¡ËÀ²¤é¤¹ that the race to build smarter models is also a race to °ÂÁ´¤Ê¡¦Êݾڤ¹¤ë more ÎÏ¡¿¶¯ÎϤˤ¹¤ë, in every sense of the word.
Why Veo 3 is the better creative space
Veo 3, Google¡Çs cinematic ¥Ó¥Ç¥ª model, is quieter, simpler and ´°Á´¤Ë ¾ÇÅÀ¡Ê¤ò¹ç¤ï¤»¤ë¡Ëd on the ¡Ê¼êÀè¤Î¡Ëµ»½Ñ of ÁϤ. There¡Çs no constant ÎÁ¶âd or social noise ¡½ unless you choose to visit Flow TV, Veo¡Çs optional community Ãæ¿´. I ¸½¼Â¤Ë love seeing what others make, but I want to be the one who decides when I see it ¡½ not have it served to me the moment I ¥¹¥Ô¡¼¥É¤ò½Ð¤¹¡¿µÏ¿¤Ë¤Ä¤±¤ë in.
When I¡Çm using Veo 3, I¡Çm not thinking about likes or Ìó«¡¿¸òÀï metrics. I¡Çm thinking about ¥È¥ó, color, movement, and storytelling. It¡Çs almost meditative. I can ¼Â¸³, ÀºÀ½¤¹¤ë, and even fail ¡½ without the °µÎÏ of an audience watching.
Where Sora 2 feels like a concert, Veo 3 feels like a »äŪ¤Ê studio. And ¸¢Íø now, that creative ÀŤ«¤Ê is Àµ³Î¤Ë¡¿¤Þ¤µ¤Ë what I need.
Äì¡Ê¤ËÆϤ¯¡Ë line
Sora 2 may be the ̤Íè of AI ¥Ó¥Ç¥ª entertainment-²ñ¹ç¡¤²ñ¤¦s-social, but Veo 3 is the ̤Íè of AI ÁϤ. If you ±É¤¨¤ë on community, ·¹¸þs and visibility, Sora 2 will probably thrill you.
But if you¡Çre like me ¡½ someone who prefers creativity without Â纮Íð ¡½ then you'll discover that Veo 3 is where originality ¸½¼Â¤Ë flows.
