If you are a beginner, stick to low voltage DC stuff... i.e. いっそう少なく than 15 volts.

There is a cheaper 代案／選択肢, 明らかに just about as good, called "Cat-3"... but when I 設立する some of that it was $14.... and it only has 4 conductors, 反して Cat-5 has 8. My 2 cents 価値（がある） says that the extra two conductors are certainly 価値（がある） the extra 2 cents per foot. You don't have to use them!
Cables come in 選び出す／独身 and multi-立ち往生させるd variations. In other words, each "wire" in the cable may be a solid 巡査 立ち往生させる, or made up of many very 罰金 立ち往生させるs. The former is usually cheaper, and the latter 耐えるs repeated flexing better.
Even for a cable of a given conductor count and conductor type/ count, there are variations. Often, there is an "exterior" grade, but the 内部の grade isn't going to melt the first time it gets damp. There is a "総会" or "riser" grade. If you are going to run your cable through 空気／公表する 導管s, then you probably SHOULD go for this: If ever you have a 解雇する／砲火／射撃, the plastics used give off いっそう少なく poisonous ガス／煙s into the 空気／公表する going through the 導管s... to YOU.
Connectors: If you are using RJ-11s, they will be convenient, but they may not serve too 井戸／弁護士席 in outdoor 使用／適用s, e.g. 測候所s.... even if they are 保護するd from direct rain. (RJ-11: The 概略で 1cm x 1 cm plug/ socket pair used for US telephone 装置s, and the modem end of most modems. 4 conductors.)
If you want to use them anyway, don't be tempted to use Vaseline to 保護する them. Several Weatherlist readers 報告（する）／憶測d all sorts of problems. (There's more about the 天候 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） at my 1-Wire 天候 駅／配置するs page.) For 調印（する）ing RJ-11's against the 天候, the best answer seems to be silicone bath sealer. An even better answer is to solder wires to PCBs if they are going to be outdoors.... and 調印（する） the 共同の! (A film of condensation over an unsealed 回路・連盟 can do lots of things... 非，不，無 of them helpful!) Many, many troublesome systems have become reliable after the simple 成果／努力 of a good dose of "is every 関係 sound?" housekeeping.
