There are 現在／一般に two ways for 使用者s and developers to 追加する functionality to OpenOffice.org, すなわち大型のs and UNO 構成要素s.

大型のs are a 始める，決める of 指示／教授／教育s which OpenOffice.org can 解釈する／通訳する at runtime to carry out a 明確な／細部始める，決める of 仕事s in OpenOffice.org. 使用者s can create a 大型の by 記録，記録的な／記録するing a number of 仕事s in OpenOffice.org, save this 始める，決める of 仕事s as a 大型の and then 貯蔵所d this 大型の to a menu or keypress. The 大型の is run by hitting the bound menu or 重要な. 前進するd 使用者s can 令状 their own StarBasic 大型のs in an embedded StarBasic IDE if they wish.

UNO 構成要素s are 収集するd C++ or Java 構成要素s, which a developer can 令状 using the UNO API to 接近 and manipulate OpenOffice.org. The 構成要素 is written in an 外部の IDE in C++ or Java (or any language with a supported UNO 橋（渡しをする）). The end 使用者 needs to 任命する／導入する any new 構成要素 in their OpenOffice.org to make use of this new functionality. UNO 構成要素開発 is supported by the ODK.

The Scripting 枠組み目的（とする）s to strike a balance between these two approaches of customizing OpenOffice.org. The 枠組み will 許す scripts to be written in a variety of languages, （軍隊を）展開する，配備するd into OpenOffice.org 取り付け・設備s or 文書s, 負担d at runtime and 遂行する／発効させるd in OpenOffice.org. The 枠組み will 許す any number of different scripting languages to be plugged into OpenOffice.org for which there is an UNO 橋（渡しをする）. Our 焦点（を合わせる） will be to support languages with a Java 実施, but the 枠組み can be made to work with any scripting langauge with a supported UNO 橋（渡しをする） such as the UNO Python 橋（渡しをする）. In this way 使用者s and developers will be able to 令状 scripts in any supported scripting language to manipulate OpenOffice.org.
