Interview: やすりを削る人/削る機械 Vesik
Over the course of two days, I interviewed OpenOffice.orgs 解放(する) engineer, やすりを削る人/削る機械 Vesik. As the 解放(する) engineer, やすりを削る人/削る機械 作品 with Armin Theissen in Sun's offices in Ireland to 調整する 解放(する)s of OpenOffice.org builds. I 最初 planned for this interview to go into the "スポットライト" section of the OpenOffice.org home page. But because やすりを削る人/削る機械 raises some important points about Open Source that transcend the more biographical nature of the スポットライト, I feel that this space is more appropriate.
As always, please feel 解放する/自由な to 与える/捧げる your 返答s to the OpenOffice.org "discuss" 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる). ーするために 地位,任命する your 返答, you must subscribe. You can also e-mail me, Louis.
Every open-source 事業/計画(する) has its own defining 特徴. What 特徴 about OpenOffice.org drew you to it?
I 現実に worked at Sun before October 13th [2000] when the 場所/位置 (and 事業/計画(する)), as far as source code is 関心d, was 開始する,打ち上げるd. But in general I guess it was the 指名する 承認 of 'StarOffice' and its 可能性のある [that drew me].
How would you 述べる your 役割 in OpenOffice.org?
Imagine taking one of the 広大な/多数の/重要な pyramids, say the Pyramid of Cheops, and 除去するing all but, oh, 20 無作為に selected 石/投石する 封鎖するs. You could probably think of a wide variety of 形態/調整s based on just those 20 石/投石するs and the position of the 石/投石するs in the structure might thus かなり 変化させる. It's really hard to say at this point where I am going to be in the OpenOffice.org 計画/陰謀 of things when they finally develop. I just hope the 過程 does 選ぶ up some 速度(を上げる). For now, I'm mostly a 解放する/自由な-floating 石/投石する.
It's difficult いつかs for those not familiar with the workings of an open-source 事業/計画(する) to understand just how positions are 設立するd and defined .
OpenOffice.org isn't really an open-source 事業/計画(する), and definitely not from the developer base point of 見解(をとる), having only one 非,不,無-Sun committer. 井戸/弁護士席, this doesn't sound nice when taken on the 額面価格. Yes, the code definitely is 解放する/自由な, but the developer community and structures associated with that just 港/避難所't developed yet.
What do you mean, then, by an open-source 事業/計画(する)? Is it the community that makes the difference? For what you 暗示する is that an open-source 事業/計画(する) relies for its 身元 as such on community 関与.
There are a 広大な/多数の/重要な number of shades of gray between '全く Open Source' and 'の近くにd source'. Somewhere in the spectrum are things like さまざまな FSF 事業/計画(する)s [解放する/自由な ソフトウェア 創立/基礎], Sun JDK source, Ghostscript, Mozilla[.org], OpenOffice.org, GNOME, KDE, Linux, and many others. [Whether] a 事業/計画(する) is open or not doesn't depend so much on the license but how the whole 事業/計画(する) 作品. The license is only a small part of that, and not always the most important. There are GPL-licensed 事業/計画(する)s that are really more の近くにd than the JDK, [but] that also 活発に kill forks.
How would you go about making OpenOffice.org more of an open-source 事業/計画(する)? That is, what needs still to be done?
I really do think only new people coming to the 事業/計画(する) and 活発に throwing their 負わせる behind the 事業/計画(する) can do that. So far, this has only really happened in porting.
How would you recommend a new community member should go about joining a 事業/計画(する)?
It really depends on the 事業/計画(する), but I think in general [that they could] start [by] asking questions, finding stuff out on [their] own (and [requesting] documentation for the 暴露するd parts), and making patches that 直す/買収する,八百長をする bugs or 追加する new functionality. Oh and not going away just because it seems nobody is 支払う/賃金ing attention and answering 支援する.
For 見込みのある members, what elements about OpenOffice.org might 控訴,上告 to them?
Availability of 正規の/正選手 binary snapshots, a wide variety of not yet filled 役割s, [and] having what you do 現実に go to the desktops of a large number of 使用者s on several 壇・綱領・公約s.
