Interview: Mozilla 雷 and OpenOffice.org

Can you tell us 正確に／まさに what is under 開発?

Sun's StarOffice used to have a PIM 含むing a simple calendar server, called StarOffice Schedule, up until 見解／翻訳／版 5.2. Why was Mozilla 雷 chosen as the basis for a PIM?
Since OpenOffice.org is open source and runs on 多重の 壇・綱領・公約s, 含むing Windows, Mozilla 雷 was the obvious choice. Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird are already 井戸／弁護士席 受託するd の中で 使用者s, and 最近の 調査するs 示す that even on Linux Mozilla Thunderbird is the preferred email （弁護士の）依頼人 nowadays. Thus, Mozilla 雷 was the best 選択 both from a technical and a 勢い point of 見解（をとる）.
What calendar servers and calendaring 議定書s will be supported by Mozilla 雷?
The 現在の 0.3 見解／翻訳／版 of Mozilla 雷 supports the iCalendar 基準 and can 接近 remote calendars using WebDAV, CalDAV and WCAP 議定書s. iCalendar is supported by many calendar servers and 道具s as a data 交流 判型. CalDAV is an 現れるing 基準 that is supported by an 増加するing number of calendar servers. The WCAP 議定書 is used by the Sun Java System Calendar Server.

How tightly will the PIM be 統合するd into OpenOffice.org?

The Mozilla 雷 開発 team 含むs both 法人組織の／企業の developers and volunteers. The organizations 伴う／関わるd in the 開発 含む Simdesk, the Mozilla 会社／団体, and Sun. Sun 参加するs with a pretty strong team consisting of 開発, 使用者 experience, 解放（する） 工学, QA/実験（する）ing and marketing.
What feature areas is Sun 焦点（を合わせる）ing on?
So far, Sun has 与える／捧げるd to many different areas. The 重要な 焦点（を合わせる） areas in 新規加入 to general bug 直す／買収する，八百長をするing are calendar 見解（をとる）s, team/共同 features and support for the Sun Java System Calendar Server. Sun is also 伴う／関わるd in the feature and roadmap planning and wants to make sure that 雷 統合するs very 井戸／弁護士席 in Thunderbird.
How is Mozilla 雷 different from Mozilla Sunbird? Is Sun 与える／捧げるing to Mozilla Sunbird 同様に?
Mozilla Sunbird is a standalone calendar 道具 that does not 統合する with Mozilla Thunderbird and does not 含む email and 演説（する）／住所 調書をとる／予約する functionality. Sun's main 焦点（を合わせる） is on the 統合するd 解答 供給するd by the 雷 拡張 as this is what most 使用者s are 推定する／予想するing from a PIM.
However, because both 事業／計画（する）s (i.e. Sunbird and 雷) 株 a ありふれた code base you are always 与える／捧げるing to both of them [if you 与える／捧げる to one]. In 新規加入 Sun 供給するs 与える／捧げるd builds of Sunbird for the Solaris operating system.
What about Mozilla Thunderbird? Is Sun 伴う／関わるd in the 開発 of Mozilla Thunderbird, considering that 雷 is an 拡張 for Thunderbird?
So far, the Sun team is 焦点（を合わせる）ing on the calendar part, i.e. Mozilla 雷, because the email functionality in Thunderbird is already very 完全にする and 前進するd. It is 全く possible that at some point we might get 伴う／関わるd in the Thunderbird 開発, 同様に, but since there is still a lot to do on the calendar 味方する, this is not something that would happen anytime soon. However, we are in の近くに 接触する with the Thunderbird developers to make sure that they are aware of any 統合，差別撤廃 problems we might have. What does the roadmap look like? What major milestones are planned?
Mozilla 雷 0.3 has just been 解放（する）d and shows already a 抱擁する 改良 over 雷 0.1. For example, Lighting 0.3 has 改善するd 見解（をとる）s and better support for 網状組織 calendars. The first major 解放（する）, i.e. 雷 1.0, is 推定する／予想するd to be 解放（する）d in the second half of 2007. 雷 1.0 is will 供給する all the 重要な features 推定する／予想するd from a PIM, except maybe PDA sync and support for some 付加 calendar servers.

What programming languages and 枠組みs are used for developing 雷?
雷, like all other Mozilla 製品s, uses the XUL 枠組み for its 使用者 interface. The 使用／適用 logic is mostly written in JavaScript, except for some 業績／成果 批判的な modules that are written in C++.
Is there anything that you have learned from 参加するing in another open-source 事業／計画（する）?
The Mozilla 雷 事業／計画（する） already 存在するd when Sun joined the 事業／計画（する）. Thus, Sun was the newcomer. This is different to OpenOffice.org where Sun 設立するd the 事業／計画（する） and everybody else was the newcomer coming from the outside. It is a very 利益／興味ing and useful experience to join an 設立するd open-source 事業／計画（する） as a new member from the outside. It takes a while until different ideas and goals get 提携させるd. One has to 投資する into understanding each other's point of 見解（をとる） and building 関係s. The 直面する-to-直面する 会合 that we had in Toronto a few months ago definitely helped to form a team. The 増加するing feedback from Lighting 使用者s also helps to form opinions about 未来 directions of the 事業／計画（する）.
How can someone 与える／捧げる to Mozilla 雷?
There are many ways to get in 接触する with the community. First, there is a lot of （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） on the 事業／計画（する）'s web pages and 特に on the Mozilla wiki (http://wiki.mozilla.org). A good source for 現在の calendar 事業／計画（する） （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） is the calendar newsgroup (mozilla.dev.apps.calendar) and many developers can be 接触するd 直接／まっすぐに 経由で IRC (#calendar on irc.mozilla.org)
