Jacqueline Rahemipour, Lead, German Language 事業/計画(する)

-Louis Su?rez-Potts

2006-02

Elected to the 役割 of 事業/計画(する) lead of the German Language 事業/計画(する) (also called the Germanophone 事業/計画(する))--one of the largest of the Native Language 事業/計画(する)s--Jacqueline Rahemipour has helped guide the 事業/計画(する) in its marketing, outreach, and 開発 成果/努力s. She recently celebrated her first year as lead, which served to be a 罰金 occasion for this interview, which was 行為/行うd 経由で email.

Tell us about yourself--what you do outside of OOo and how you got 利益/興味d in OpenOffice.org...

Is there really a life outside of OOo? :-) No kidding, but outside my work in the Germanophone 事業/計画(する) I have much to do with OpenOffice.org. Since 2001 I have my own small company, which is concentrated on Linux 移住s. My special part is doing training for Linux desktop ソフトウェア, 特に OpenOffice.org, 使用者 support, and in my spare time in the last two years I have written two 調書をとる/予約するs about OOo. My 利益/興味 in OOo began すぐに after my university education. I got in 接触する to StarOffice 5.0 by the company I was 雇うd by at that time. I started with normal usage of StarOffice and after a time with in-house training for my 同僚s, and got fascinated by finding out about the different functionalities. I must 自白する, that I was never 影響する/感情d by other office-控訴s, so it was 平易な for me to lead into the topic. During my work in my own company with 使用者s and 行政官/管理者s it became (疑いを)晴らす to me that the major problems of 使用者s do not 関心 the operating system itself but the office-控訴. I started 焦点(を合わせる)ing on that part. For Linux based systems StarOffice / OpenOffice.org is the 優れた office-控訴 (and in my opinion this is not only true for Linux :-) ). I started to 診察する this 控訴 studiously, not only by reading 調書をとる/予約するs and "裁判,公判 and error" but 特に by quarrying the mail 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)s of the Germanophone 事業/計画(する). In 2003 I wrote some articles about OpenOffice.org, one of these with the topic "What's new in OOo 1.1?" I 接触するd Andr? Schnabel and Rolf Meyer for an interview for this article. That was the first time I really got in 接触する with the DE 事業/計画(する), and thenceforward I started working within the marketing section of it. I was so amazed and encouraged by the enthusiasm of the community members, that I decided to volunteer as much as I could, to give a little bit 支援する of what OOo gives to me. To get to the point and to explain why I love to work in the Ooo community I would like to 引用する a 向こうずねing example, Sophie Gautier: "It's the nice "family taste" of our communities".

You are the lead of the large and important German Language 事業/計画(する), an 早期に member of the Native Language 連合. You've held this 地位,任命する now for one year--congratulations! Can you give us some insight into some of the things you do as DE 事業/計画(する) lead?

It's not 平易な to explain in a few 宣告,判決s what my work entails. A 事業/計画(する) lead surely has some 行政の things to do, for example 認めるing the different 事業/計画(する) 役割s or the moderation of the さまざまな mailinglists. But I think it's most important for a 事業/計画(する) lead to stick the DE community together, to see where problems are and to be 現在の and 利用できる. Not only for the community members, but also for people who want to join the community, but don't know how. And of course to be the 接触する person for the 幅の広い public, 特に for マスコミ and for companies which are thinking about a 移住 to OpenOffice.org. So one of my most important (人命などを)奪う,主張するs is, to be easily 設立する for all of them. Therefore I'm 現在の at the most of our fairs and at the 地元の community 会合s we arrange in the さまざまな 地域s in Germany, as in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg or Cologne. その上に we often use the communication マスコミ irc or icq, if communication 経由で mailing 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)s is not 急速な/放蕩な enough or even not possible. Beside my work in the marketing section, where I help organising the さまざまな events in Germany, it's one of my most important goals to work within the Germanophone QA team and help 改善する the 質 of OpenOffice.org. So I 普通は help for the 解放(する) QA, but also at those special 仕事s like the review of the online-help we do theses days. その上に I take an active part in our German 協会 "OpenOffice.org Deutschland e.V." with 持続するs the Germanophone 事業/計画(する), 特に in 財政上の questions for fairs, marketing 構成要素, etc..

What were some of the 最高の,を越す 業績/成就s of the 事業/計画(する) this last year?

2005 was a 広大な/多数の/重要な year for OpenOffice.org and not only for the Germanophone 事業/計画(する), very exciting 同様に as astonishing. 原因(となる)d by the 早期に advertised 解放(する) of the 2.0 見解/翻訳/版 of Open Office.org the public 利益/興味 rose 意味ありげに, 主要な into much more traffic on the 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)s and many more 使用者s within the 事業/計画(する). This gave the Germanophone 事業/計画(する) fresh impetus and new ideas. So an enthusiastic team adapted our websites to be 用意が出来ている for the 2.0 解放(する). It was hard work, not only changing the design, but also 含むing considerations of usability and getting rid of out-時代遅れの 事柄s. In this point we had to update many documentation and this work still goes on. Our documentation-team is 補助装置d by some more members, who are working on translations. その上に we built up a reliable QA-team with continuous 活動/戦闘. I remember some days in 2005, when we were working 権利 after midnight to do everything in our 力/強力にする, checking as much as we could and giving a "go" for the 近づいている 解放(する). Last but not least we 大きくするd our marketing team, so that we are now able to …に出席する most of the biggest fairs in Germany. We created some 利益/興味ing marketing 構成要素, not only for the さまざまな fairs. We designed some 事業/計画(する)-T-Shirts in the style of the new splashscreen motif and produced very nice pins and cuff links in a 類似の design. The DE 事業/計画(する) had a brilliant year …に出席するing 会議/協議会s.

How do you decide which events to …に出席する? And how do you 組織する 会議/協議会 events and 支払う/賃金 for other marketing 成果/努力s? Sun no 疑問 finds some of the events 利益/興味ing, like CeBIT. How does that 利益/興味 影響する/感情 things?

We try to be 現在の at the most important events, not only Linux 関係のある fairs, but also ありふれた IT-events. Of course it depends on the number of volunteers. These days OOo has become やめる popular, so we are 招待するd to many many 贈呈s and surely get our booths for 解放する/自由な. On every event we have one or two 代表者/国会議員s 責任がある organisation and 交渉s with the 操作者s. The planning of 動員可能数, lectures and marketing 構成要素 is made 経由で our mailing 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)s. Our 協会 "OOo Deutschland e.V." is 責任がある 財政上の needs and 合法的な 関心s. It helps to pre-財政/金融 marketing 構成要素 and can 認める requests on traffic expenses, so that more community members have the chance to be 現在の at a fair. Last October we 行為/行うd an 実験 on one fair in Germany, the SYSTEMS, which is 位置を示すd in Munich. We had a big booth, where not only the community was 現在の, but also several companies 供給するing their services 関心ing OpenOffice.org. It was advantageous for both: the companies, because we are always a (人が)群がる puller at fairs and the community, for other companies and organisations can see what open source can be, how to migrate to OpenOffice.org. They can also see that there is professional support 利用できる. We 計画(する) the events we …に出席する on our own, usually not asking SUN, where to go or how we want to proceed. にもかかわらず we work 手渡す in 手渡す where it is reasonable for both, so it occurs, that SUN staff (anyway the most of them are active community members, too) helps out at our booth or gives a lecture about OpenOffice.org. On the other 手渡す we redirect greater 見込みのある (弁護士の)依頼人s, who are 利益/興味d in OOo or StarOffice to them.

You, Helga Fischer (co-lead of DE), Sophie Gautier (FR), Jacqueline McNally (Marketing), and 非常に/多数の others, 代表する what I hope is a growing 傾向: more women in positions of 力/強力にする at OpenOffice.org. As far as I know, there is no communication の中で you outside the 正規の/正選手 channels. Do you think there せねばならない be? And, would you be agreeable to something like a women's (政党の)幹部会,党集会 on OOo whose 委任統治(領) would be to bring in more women developers and contributors?

利益/興味ing idea! Surely OpenOffice.org is わずかに different from other open source-事業/計画(する)s because it isn't as developer-焦点(を合わせる)d as other 事業/計画(する)s might be. There are many chances to get in touch with the 事業/計画(する) and work on it aside the normal developers work, e.g. marketing, 使用者 support or the documentation. I did not experience any special problems for women to 参加する in the 事業/計画(する). We do not have much 女性(の) community members in the DE 事業/計画(する), as a ちらりと見ること at our basic mailinglist shows. I would 見積(る) something between 5 and 10 %, but they distinguish thereselves by a 広大な/多数の/重要な 連続 in their work. But sure, that could be a 調印する that it is a little more difficult to find the 入り口 for women. When they are 与える/捧げるing, they do it 井戸/弁護士席 considered and they stay, not leaving the 事業/計画(する) 急速な/放蕩な. I for myself do not need any "special 扱うing", as I am working in a male 支配するd domain and therefore used to struggle with prejudices. And I do not think there is much scepticism within the Germanophone-事業/計画(する) about women and their work. にもかかわらず it has been a 広大な/多数の/重要な surprise to most of us, when in may 2005 Helga Fischer was elected as Co-Lead and the suddenly a 女性(の) 二人組 示すd the 最高の,を越す of the Germanophone 事業/計画(する). It might be a good idea to have a special women section, where 女性(の) 抑制s might be 交渉するd and give impetus to join the DE 事業/計画(する). The Debian-women 事業/計画(する) shows, that those needs 存在する. But I think, the best way is, to exemplify it through our own lives, that there is a place for everyone within the 事業/計画(する) regardlessly age, sex or previous knowledge.

Along these lines, what programs does the DE 事業/計画(する) have for engaging new contributors (関わりなく 染色体s) and for 促進するing OpenOffice.org?

Of course we are spreading OpenOffice.org 同様に as 新採用するing members at the ありふれた 商売/仕事 fairs, like CeBIT, LinuxWorld, LinuxTag and SYSTEMS but also on smaller 地元の events. But in 2006 we 計画(する) some more 明確な/細部 events: For example an "OpenOffice.org open house day", where several community members have been 招待するd for (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) lectures, which are have been 発表するd in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These lectures will be given at universities, schools or the 地元の 議会s of 商業 and 産業. While each event shall be small with a more familiar touch, we hope to get a 報告(する)/憶測 into the papers an rise public 利益/興味 予定 to the 全国的な and synchronous occurrence. Another event will be an "OOoCamp", where we want to introduce young people, explaining what our community is and show the first steps how to join the 事業/計画(する). We 計画(する) several technical and 非,不,無-technical workshops for it and try to turn our attention in 統合するing socially disadvantaged persons. Last but not least the "PrOOo-Box", a CD-編集 with OpenOffice.org and many useful 新規加入s like clipart, 草案s, 拡張s and other stuff. We 分配する them on fairs at cost and a small 寄付, but its also possible to order it from the 協会 and other places.

I'm curious about planning for the 未来, and have been asking other leads a 見解/翻訳/版 of this question: What do you see for 2006?

A short 見解(をとる) in my 水晶 ball shows me, that we have to 推定する/予想する another 広大な/多数の/重要な year for OpenOffice.org and all the contributors. :-) I was very pleased in 2005 to see many new 関係者s joining the 事業/計画(する), and this year we want to 焦点(を合わせる) on keeping them at it and stabilise the different sections in the DE 事業/計画(する), 特に the PrOOo-Box and our documentation section. The same 適用するs to our ソフトウェア OOo itself, 特に our Germanophone localisation. we have so many new features (機の)カム up with 2.0, that we would like to 焦点(を合わせる) on 改善するing the 存在するing ones. At the moment we do a structured review of the Germanophone online-help and are planning some more 内部の 会合s 焦点(を合わせる)ing on our qa work. Finally I hope to see that the 近づいている OOoCon leaves the european continent and shows the whole world our magnificent OpenOffice.org and what we all are working on.
