Open 見解(をとる)s

Creating the New Open Source
Calling these articles "Editors Column," has been, I realize, a mistake. My 疑惑 is that by using the word "Editor," I have left the unfortunate impression that these are 編集(者)のs. They are not. As I 明言する/公表するd earlier, my 意向 in these columns is to 供給する the community with news, 見解(をとる)s, and positions it might find of 利益/興味. An obvious 機能(する)/行事, too, is to give newbies a sense both of Open Source, its 問題/発行するs, and of OpenOffice.org, and its work.
So, Ill 改名する it, to Open 見解(をとる)s. My 焦点(を合わせる), however, will not 大幅に change. I will still 診察する the logic and practice of Open Source and OpenOffice.org.
Last week, I 現在のd an interview with やすりを削る人/削る機械 Vesik, who, along with Armin Theissen, is a 解放(する) engineer for OpenOffice.org. I asked him what I thought was a rather simple question, "It's difficult いつかs for those not familiar with the workings of an open-source 事業/計画(する) to understand just how positions are 設立するd and defined ." I 推定する/予想するd as an answer something that would 述べる for those who are curious 指示,表示する物s as to how an Open Source 事業/計画(する) is arranged and how 力/強力にする is 分配するd. But やすりを削る人/削る機械 答える/応じるdand for this I thank him!in a way that went straight to the heart of any Open Source 事業/計画(する) and certainly to the heart of ours:
"OpenOffice.org isn't really an open-source 事業/計画(する), and definitely not from the developer base point of 見解(をとる), having only one 非,不,無-Sun committer. 井戸/弁護士席, this doesn't sound nice when taken on the 額面価格. Yes, the code definitely is 解放する/自由な, but the developer community and structures associated with that just 港/避難所't developed yet."
やすりを削る人/削る機械 went on to 追加する that, "There are a 広大な/多数の/重要な number of shades of gray between "全く Open Source" and "の近くにd source." [ ] [Whether] a 事業/計画(する) is open or not doesn't depend so much on the license but how the whole 事業/計画(する) 作品. The license is only a small part of that, and not always the most important." The license, though important, is just a start. What counts, in the end, is the whole structure of the 事業/計画(する). In this 見解(をとる), OpenOffice.org is thus not an open-source 事業/計画(する), にもかかわらず its license, because its community does not yet 含む very many outside contributors.
I 現実に 同意しない with やすりを削る人/削る機械, though I can see why he should make his (人命などを)奪う,主張する. And I believe that OpenOffice.org will progressively 含む more developers. But there is implicit in やすりを削る人/削る機械s argument the notion that there is a trueor "全く Open Source"事業/計画(する), and I wonder. I wonder if Open Source has in fact undergone, or is を受けるing, a 革命 of sorts. And that we should no longer only look, say, to Linux or Apache, for 鮮明度/定義s of what Open Source is or means.
Open Source, as a method and practice is changing or has changed because it has become commercially reasonablesmart, even!for companies to 解放(する) 以前は proprietary code under an Open Source license and get people all over the world with no 忠誠 to and under no 契約 with to the sponsoring company to work on the 事業/計画(する), often for 解放する/自由な. This is a 重要な change; Open Source as such will become more a 論理(学)の 商売/仕事 戦略 and method in which 商売/仕事s 捜し出す the attention and 利益/興味s of globally 分配するd developers than a cowboy culture in which hobbyists develop really neat 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセスs. Oh, that will stay; 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセスing for the sake of it and for the informal communities it builds will never go away. But Open Source as such is 急速な/放蕩な becoming a big 商売/仕事 and, as they say, the paradigm has 転換d.
Of course, as やすりを削る人/削る機械 暗示するd, you cant just hang out a 調印する that the code is now 解放する/自由な and 推定する/予想する the thing to work. (証言,証人/目撃する the telling problems 直面するing HP 権利 now.) You have to somehow 設立する a community to work on the code. I would 追加する: and you need to create a political and 科学技術の 組織/基盤/下部構造 that 許すs the community to grow. For unlike Linux and Apache, which were never sponsored by 会社/団体s, OpenOffice.org must 設立するand it isan 身元 and structure that 許すs it easily to bring in new members. I think we are getting there.
