A week ago, I had 約束d that I would 乗る，着手する this week on an examination of other open-source 事業／計画（する）s, beginning with Apple's Darwin 事業／計画（する） (the 核心 of Mac OS X). But the events of the last week have 軍隊d me to 延期する that examination.
No, I do not 言及する to George Bush's 就任（式）／開始 or to the demonstrations 抗議するing that event. Rather, I 言及する to what is closer to home: The very lively discussions over the 未来 functionality of OpenOffice.org that have animated the 事業／計画（する）'s "discuss" mailing 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）. In particular, I mean the thread "Say it isn't so," in which an enormous number of 回答者／被告s, both technically oriented and not, have 重さを計るd in with their arguments regarding OpenOffice.org's 合併／会社設立 of e-mail and calendering functionality.
The 問題／発行する is of course important; however, I want in this column to 焦点（を合わせる） いっそう少なく on the good or bad of 含むing such functionality than on the 過程 by which the OpenOffice.org community articulates its 願望（する）s and 利益／興味s (the thread continues). That 過程, first, is definitively civil. There are no 炎上s; only a 合理的な／理性的な (and 熱烈な) discussion of the プロの／賛成のs and 反対／詐欺s. Last week, I 示唆するd that an open-source community 存在するs in dialectic relation with the 治める／統治するing 団体／死体 (or whatever 団体／死体 articulates the 支配するs and road 地図／計画するs). But the nature of a dialectic is that it is not static: 力／強力にする 転換s incessantly, the goals of any open-source community never 純粋に 残り／休憩（する） with the 治める／統治するing 団体／死体 but can always be contested by an active community.
However, the OpenOffice.org community is not やめる in the same 状況／情勢 as, say, Mozilla.org, on which I 簡潔に touched last week. Rather, as Brian Behlendorf (co-創立者 of Apache) wrote in 返答 to a message, "there are no 'OpenOffice[.org] 創立／基礎 board members' yet; Sun (in 合同 with others) is still working to 決定する the best way to create a 合法的な （独立の）存在 around OpenOffice.org that answers to the community." This is not to say that there is no 指導／手引 or planning. There is: Sun and CollabNet (who hosts the 場所／位置) continue to 充てる an 驚くべき／特命の／臨時の 量 of time and energy to guiding the community. It is just that there is so far no formal 治める／統治するing 団体／死体.
Certainly, such a 治める／統治するing 団体／死体 will be necessary, if one of its 機能（する）／行事s is to 確実にする the community 持つ／拘留するs to agreed-upon goals. But, from the 証拠, the OpenOffice.org community has been working in a way that 論証するs that it is perfectly able to 設立する 優先s and values on its own.
For what the "Say it isn't so" thread 明らかにする／漏らすs is a community that is powerfully engaged; not just working in passive 孤立／分離 on abstruse code but very 関心d with and 利益／興味d in how the 使用者 will 現実に 利益 from what they are doing. And it also shows that the developers are by no means blind to the 商業の and real-world elements of the 事業／計画（する）s they work on. In fact, an 激烈な／緊急の 承認 of the marketability of the ソフトウェア animates the discussion and complements the equal 承認 that the 事業／計画（する） will only 後継する if people 現実に use the 製品s derived from OpenOffice.org.
I hesitate to relate the thread messages in 十分な. Not only are there many, but each is an 介入 in a 審議 and was not written with the consciousness that it might be featured here. However, for those 利益／興味d, the URL for the 現在の "discuss" mail 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） is: //www-discuss/現在の/.
