提案 Regarding The OpenOffice.org Numbering 計画／陰謀

提案
This 提案 was developed by a 合意 過程 on the OpenOffice.org Marketing 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）. We are 提案するing it to several other OpenOffice.org mailing 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）s as a plebiscite ーするために 計器 the general community opinion of the idea. Please be 保証するd that we are not able to "軍隊" a change on anybody; instead, we are putting this 今後 as something we think the community will wholeheartedly 認可する.
OpenOffice.org will continue to use the build numbers (e.g. 641C, 647) for 内部の 言及／関連. We are not 提案するing to tell the developers how to 言及する to their program, for which build numbers are 明らかに the most convenient means.
But for 目的s of general intelligibility, and to 融通する a general 期待 of how an Open Source 事業／計画（する） should number its public 解放（する）s, an "X.Y.Z" numbering 計画／陰謀 will be 可決する・採択するd around the time of the 解放（する） of StarOffice 6.0 this spring. Instead of referring to OpenOffice.org by its 内部の number (e.g., 64x), people will be able to 言及する to it by the new numeration. All downloads will use this form. This 提案するd numbering 計画／陰謀 serves four 目的s:
- 供給するing an identifier for the ありふれた 使用者 interfaces, such as: Splash 審査する, 肩書を与える 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業, About Page, 取り付け・設備 Wizard, Web Page.
- Translating OpenOffice.org build numbering into a simpler value which is more easily comprehended by the general public and the 圧力（をかける）.
- Building our image that OpenOffice.org is a separate and useful 製品 in its own 権利, not only a part of the StarOffice 開発 過程.
- Giving the impression, at the 訂正する time, that OpenOffice.org is ready for 生産／産物 use by 商売／仕事s and individuals.
The first 見解／翻訳／版 number will be "1.0.0".
Please review this 提案. We would like for discussion and 投票（する） to 結論する by then end of next week: The 最終期限 is Friday, 2002 Feb. 8.
投票（する）ing will be +1, -1, and 示す 是認 or 不賛成. Feel 解放する／自由な to comment, make suggestions, and 与える／捧げる. Any OpenOffice.org member may 投票（する）; but members must 服従させる／提出する their 投票（する） to the "discuss" 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）, 使用者s@openoffice.apache.org; unsubscribed members will have their submissions 穏健なd.

"OpenOffice.org 6.0"
- By synchronizing OpenOffice.org and StarOffice 見解／翻訳／版 numbers, we perpetuate the 存在するing public impression that OpenOffice.org is 厳密に a StarOffice 開発 事業／計画（する）. This impression impairs our ability to attract 独立した・無所属 developers and to encourage OpenOffice.org use in 商売／仕事s.
- We have not had five previous 見解／翻訳／版s of OpenOffice.org. Jumping straight to 見解／翻訳／版 6, while it would re-保証する may 使用者s accustomed to Microsoft 製品 numbering, would 疎遠にする some Unix and Open Source developers 予定 to the pretense 伴う／関わるd. In this light, 見解／翻訳／版 1.0 is seen as a good 妥協 between the Windows and Unix/Open Source worlds.
"OpenOffice.org 2002"
- It could be perceived by many as slavishly imitating Microsoft.
- The "year" 計画／陰謀 does not 許す for the 解放（する） of 多重の stable 見解／翻訳／版s of the 製品 in a 選び出す／独身 year. It also 複雑にするs patch 解放（する）s by 要求するing long 見解／翻訳／版 numbers like "OpenOffice.org 2002 r.3.1" which might 混乱させる the general 使用者.
"OpenOffice.org 0.8.5 (or .9.x)
- It was 示唆するd that we 解放（する） OpenOffice.org as a "いっそう少なく than 1.0" 解放（する） and work に向かって a perfect, 1.0, 製品. This is in keeping with the tradition of Open Source 開発. However, the general Windows-using public would perceive any number いっそう少なく than 1.0 as 存在 an alpha 見解／翻訳／版 and not suitable for general use. As the entire 目的 of a 見解／翻訳／版 numbering change is to market OpenOffice.org to the public, such a 計画／陰謀 would be self-敗北・負かすing.
As said above, we felt that a "見解／翻訳／版 1.0.0" on a 製品 with some 行方不明の features and bugs but a lot of excellent functionality was a good 妥協 between "0.8.5" and "6.0".
