Whiteboard 事業/計画(する)s
With the 創造 of the two new Whiteboard 事業/計画(する)s in the last couple of weeks, Groupware and 使用者 FAQ, the OpenOffice.org community seems to have entered into new 領土. I don't know if we have 達成するd "批判的な 集まり"--I don't know やめる what that would mean--but it does seem as if the community has passed a milestone. 認めるd, I have always been an 楽天主義者 regarding this 事業/計画(する); but who wouldn't be: OpenOffice.org, as an Open Source 事業/計画(する) and community is extraordinarily rich and filled with 約束. And that's not just because the code is so 広大な and powerful or because the developer community (which grows ますます large) (期間が)わたるs the globe and 含むs remarkably talents or because 使用者s, both individuals and groups, all around the world are continually 表明するing real 利益/興味 in the ソフトウェア.
Rather, my 楽観主義 and now excitement with the quickened pace of the community 茎・取り除くs from the combination of all these and from that far more intangible element which might be called esprit de 軍団, the spirit which animates the community and 動機づけるs people to work, 交流 ideas, and collaboratively 与える/捧げる code and experience.
(I feel a little shy rhapsodizing about "community," 特に as I live in California and feel, justifiably, that the 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語, community, has lost through overuse the precision of its contours and 伸び(る)d in weak 交流 a smooth but uselessly warm California feel. But would "collaborative 環境" really do instead? No: For Open Source, the 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 "community" is apt; it just should be used 正確に, and 示す a working community, predicated on 信用 and 共同.)
The Groupware and 使用者 FAQ 事業/計画(する)s, which went live late last week, are part of the Whiteboard 事業/計画(する). The Groupware 事業/計画(する) is 存在 led by Guy Capra, whom readers will remember from the Francophone module of the Native Language 事業/計画(する), which he helped create earlier this year. But first, a little background on the Whiteboard 事業/計画(する).
持続するd by David Cobb, a 非,不,無-Sun committer who has 終始一貫して supported OpenOffice.org, the Whiteboard 事業/計画(する) is easily one of the most accessible areas for community members 利益/興味d in creating 事業/計画(する)s. Think of it as a 肉親,親類d of 得る,とらえる-捕らえる、獲得する (or, say, 事実上の whiteboard) of useful 事業/計画(する)s that are いっそう少なく technical but no いっそう少なく important to the 全体にわたる OpenOffice.org 事業/計画(する). As of this month, the Whiteboard hosts 事業/計画(する)s 範囲ing from the Bonobo 事業/計画(する) to the recently 追加するd Annotated Bibliography on Open Source to Groupware and the 使用者 FAQs.
Of the 最近の 新規加入s, both the Groupware and 使用者 FAQ 事業/計画(する) deserve more attention than I can afford in these 恐らく 簡潔な/要約する articles. I would like, then, to 焦点(を合わせる) on the Groupware 事業/計画(する) this week, and the 使用者 FAQ 事業/計画(する) next week. (As it happens, Groupware is also 完全にする; the 使用者 FAQ 事業/計画(する) is nearly but not やめる there.)
Groupware
Readers who have been に引き続いて OpenOffice.org since the beginning of this year might remember the last time groupware was an 問題/発行する. At that time, there was a vigorous 交流 of messages on the discuss 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) over groupware, the 科学(工学)技術s, and the 未来 direction of OpenOffice.org; these I synopsized into a "スポットライト."
This time around, the discussion has been more 焦点(を合わせる)d and there was more direct 活動/戦闘, as it were (see also this week's スポットライト). The Groupware 事業/計画(する) was formed, in Guy Capra's 条件, "To 設立する 基準-compliant groupware 解答s that will: 1, Work from within the OpenOffice.org office 控訴, and 2. 許す an 平易な 移住 from the 現在の StarOffice 5.2 mail, news, schedule, and schedule server system." This 使節団 声明 (which is what it is) does not 演説(する)/住所 what groupware is, 正確に/まさに. But we can infer that groupware is the 科学(工学)技術 enabling something like the ensemble working of さまざまな features. These features, such as mail and news, are no longer 現在の in OpenOffice.org but still, it seems, 願望(する)d by enough peopel to make a difference.
The Groupware 事業/計画(する) also speaks to the community's 願望(する) and ability to take 事柄s into its own 手渡すs. This is good. If earlier I 推測するd that the previous groupware thread 示すd an 不確定 in OpenOffice.org's direction, I feel now that it rather 示唆するs the real strength and 約束/交戦 of the community. (In the first week we have had almost 40 地位,任命するs. That's encouraging indeed.) For it 論証するs a community 願望(する) to move beyond the 表明するd features of OpenOffice.org code, and keep 堅固に within the structure of OpenOffice.org.
Finally, as I 令状 this, the discuss 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) 関係のある to the Groupware 事業/計画(する) is very much alive. 利益/興味d readers should 本気で consider joining in.
Next week, I will 診察する the 使用者 FAQ and touch on the 増加するing documentation for new 使用者s.
