This 文書 is designed to help Christians who wish to take advantage of the Internet, but are afraid of （危険などに）さらす to unhelpful content. In the same way as in the real world, nothing can help you 避ける sins you choose to go looking for, but this 文書 can hopefully make it いっそう少なく likely for your Internet experience to be accidentally spoiled, and raise the 障壁 between you and 誘惑. If you are 現在／一般に not connected, my hope is that reading this 文書 might 納得させる you that it is 安全な to become so!
Before I begin, I should say that, when it comes to children using the Internet, nothing in this 文書 is meant to 供給する an 代案／選択肢 to parental 監督, and sensible discussion of the 問題／発行するs surrounding the 逮捕する with your child. In particular, do not think that web 封鎖するing ソフトウェア can serve as a "事実上の Nanny" - it cannot.
The Web
Browsing
Although, in everyday use of the Web, the chances of つまずくing across something 望ましくない are very low indeed, 事故s do happen. Although the best 解答, should you arrive somewhere you don't want to be, is to 圧力（をかける） "支援する" or の近くに the browser window, there are also two 科学技術の means that you can use to 避ける accidentally 接近ing 望ましくない websites. Which you choose depends on how you value your on-line freedom, and that of other 使用者s of your computer.
There 存在する pieces of ソフトウェア which censor some parts of the Web, usually によれば a 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of banned web 演説（する）／住所s (URLs). This 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） is usually encrypted. Recently, freedom of （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） 行動主義者s have decrypted the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）s of several of the most popular bits of such ソフトウェア, and, in one, 設立する an incredible 76% error 率 in its 封鎖するing の中で US 教育の (.edu) 場所／位置s. I.e. for every one 場所／位置 that was 封鎖するd 正確に, three others were 封鎖するd incorrectly. Companies which sell this sort of ソフトウェア also have a history of 封鎖するing 場所／位置s which are 批判的な of them. I believe such ソフトウェア is worse than useless - it なぎs you into a 誤った sense of 安全, and will 妨げる you from seeing that which you have no 推論する／理由 not to see. The best 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of links to viewpoints in the "censorware" 審議 is at The Texas Internet Service Providers 協会 - this 含むs a 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of vendors' websites, if you still wish to 購入（する） such ソフトウェア.
The second method is to enable 封鎖するing based upon a voluntary ratings system called PICS. This will 封鎖する 場所／位置s which 旗 themselves in さまざまな different 部類s, and can go some way に向かって stopping you accidentally つまずくing on something 汚い. This has the advantage that, assuming 場所／位置s 率 themselves 正確に (not 保証（人）d) it will never 封鎖する something by mistake. However, few website 操作者s bother to 率 their 場所／位置s. You should 許す 使用者s to 見解（をとる） 場所／位置s that have no 率ing - if you do not, this will 封鎖する 99% of the web, as many perfectly innocent 場所／位置s do not bother 率ing themselves. 公式文書，認める, however, that enabling PICS may slow 負かす／撃墜する your web browsing 意味ありげに (which isn't very good if you have a modem link).
Searching
It is hard to find anything on the web without using a search engine. There are 献身的な Christian search engines (there is one at CrossSearch) but they are very ありそうもない to have 索引d and categorised anything like as much of the Web as the big players, and it is 対応して いっそう少なく likely that you will find what you are looking for. I would recommend Google - they have a unique method of 最高位の results which makes it いっそう少なく likely that an innocent search will accidentally turn up something unwanted. Read their page for more （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状）. For best results, it is best to start with a 明確な／細部 search, and 広げる it if you don't find what you want, rather than the other way around. They also have a SafeSearch feature which 恐らく 除外するs adult content results.

Occasionally, when browsing an さもなければ-innocent 場所／位置, you will come across an 不快な／攻撃 旗，新聞一面トップの大見出し／大々的に報道する 宣伝. The best 解答 to this is to 圧力（をかける） Reload on your browser, which will すぐに blank the page. Most 場所／位置s 回転／交替 their 広告s, and so reloading will produce the same page, but with a new 広告 - probably an inoffensive one. If this happens too often on the same 場所／位置, you may want to consider not visiting it.
Several 広告 companies 跡をつける your 進歩 across the web through their 広告s, ーするために "personalise" the web-surfing experience, much like supermarket 忠義 cards 跡をつける your 購入（する）s. Many people find this a privacy 侵入占拠, but if you decide to 選ぶ out of such 跡をつけるing (it is possible) 公式文書，認める that this will mean 広告s you receive from those 広告 網状組織s will be more 無作為の, and so かもしれない more likely to be 望ましくない.
Be careful with your 身元 and your e-mail 演説（する）／住所. The more people you give this to, the more likely you are to receive Spam (unsolicited 商業の e-mail; 指名するd from the Monty Python sketch). This is both annoying and a waste of 網状組織 資源s. Only 明らかにする／漏らす personal 詳細（に述べる）s to reputable companies. Kids 特に should 避ける communicating with 完全にする strangers of whom they know nothing. By this I mean that it is perfectly sensible to e-mail webmaster@somesite.com, even though you don't know who it is, to tell them how good SomeSite is, but you should 避ける e-mailing people whose e-mail 演説（する）／住所s you 選ぶ up from e.g. 公式発表 boards.
If you get any Spam, or other unwanted mail, 完全に ignore it. Do not reply to it, visit any websites について言及するd, or 購入（する） any 製品s or services, no 事柄 how attractive they may seem. Do not use any 機械装置 供給するd to "除去する yourself from the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）" - this 単に 確認するs to the spammer that the 演説（する）／住所 they used is active, and someone is reading the mail, and will 誘発する／引き起こす a flood of 付加 messages.
Newsgroups
Newsgroups are the Internet's discussion 会議s. They are used much いっそう少なく by newer Internet 使用者s, who often find web-based message boards easier to use, and いっそう少なく 十分な of 宣伝s, and other junk. 確かな newsgroups receive a fair 量 of unwanted, off-topic 商業の messages, a form of Spam, much of which is adverts for porn 場所／位置s. This has led to many newsgroups 存在 穏健なd - one person checks and 認可するs all messages 運命にあるd for the group.
All newsgroups have a 指名する which 代表するs the topic of discussion, such as "sci.構成要素s.ceramics". Those which begin "alt." are いっそう少なく likely to be 穏健なd and more likely to 感情を害する／違反する; you should approach them with corresponding levels of 警告を与える. If you do read newsgroups, be 用心深い about 地位，任命するing to them - your e-mail 演説（する）／住所 gets 大（公）使館員d to your message, and propagated around the world, and can be 逮捕（する）d by programs which will then send you Spam. ーするために 地位，任命する 安全に, many people change their e-mail 演説（する）／住所 to Spam-proof it (to e.g. fred.bloggs@nospam.aol.com) but how to do that in your ソフトウェア is outside the 範囲 of this 文書. If you e-mail someone whose 指名する you see in a newsgroup, make sure to check their 演説（する）／住所 is valid.
FAQs
It would also be a very good idea to read the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） before 地位，任命するing, to make sure that the question you are about to ask, and the query you are about to raise, has not been discussed at length before. It will also give you a good idea of what goes on in that group, and its general トン. A good central repository for newsgroup FAQs is here.
It should be 公式文書，認めるd that most of the マスコミ 脅す stories about pornography on the Internet relate to images 地位，任命するd in particular newsgroups 献身的な to such things. However, very few UK Internet Service Providers (ISPs) carry these groups, and their 指名するs 明確に denote what is inside them, so they are 平易な to 避ける.
雑談（する） Rooms
For your 普通の／平均（する） Internet 使用者, interactive 雑談（する） rooms, such as those 供給するd by AOL, and the IRC (Internet Relay 雑談（する）) 網状組織, or on particular websites, have very little use indeed. However, there are 特に Christian chatrooms, about which I have heard good 報告（する）／憶測s. Whatever the 支配する, they are a 潜在的に endless 沈む for time. In particular, it has been 設立する that if you let kids anywhere 近づく them, they'll be online for hours. If you are 支払う／賃金ing by the minute then this is 明白に worrisome. Unless you have a good 推論する／理由 to 投機・賭ける into a 明確な／細部 one (such as a live online interview with a famous person, or it discusses a 明確な／細部 topic in which you have 利益／興味), they are probably best 避けるd. 公式文書，認める that this doesn't 適用する to 非，不，無-real-time web-based message boards, which should be 扱う／治療するd in the same way as other web content.
Evangelism
On the Internet, as anywhere else that you 会合，会う people, there are 適切な時期s for evangelism. 同様に as always 存在 用意が出来ている to give a 推論する／理由 for the hope that you have (1 Peter 3:15), you may find 適切な時期s 現在の themselves, just as in the real world, 単に because opinions you 表明する come from a Christian 視野. Take every 適切な時期 you get; but there are a few 落し穴s you might want to 避ける.
It probably isn't a good idea to 試みる／企てる evangelism in newsgroups - 特に 宗教的な ones like alt.atheism. In 非，不，無-宗教的な ones, you will probably draw flak for 存在 "off-topic". The best method in almost every 事例／患者 is to （問題を）取り上げる discussions with people using 私的な e-mail, where both 味方するs can lay out coherent and reasonable, thought-through arguments without barracking from the sidelines.
Another difference is that evangelism by e-mail tends to be a much more focussed, coherent discussion than that in person.You will tend to discuss 多重の topics in 平行の, and go into them in more depth over a longer 量 of time. You also need to remember that the other person always has the 選択 of not replying to your message, so be 特に loving and polite.
