Three Forms of 多様制

多様制 is a surprisingly tricky word in modern discourse. It seems to 言及する to at least three 際立った things, and I 示唆する discussions about "多様制" will 利益 from making a distinction between them.[0]

This might also be called "empirical 多様制"; it 言及するs to the fact that the communities and countries we live in are already, and are becoming ますます, ethnically, socially, religiously and in many other ways diverse. That is, there are more different ethnicities, more different 宗教s, more different social 見解(をとる)s 現在の than there have been 歴史的に. It is an observable and measurable 現象, and so its greater or lesser degree can be analysed in any particular instance or community.

When using "多様制" in this sense, someone might say "The UK has a high level of 多様制."

2) 心にいだくd 多様制

心にいだくd 多様制 追加するs to 観察するd 多様制 the element of 是認. It is the 見解(をとる) which 持つ/拘留するs that variety and 多様制 are a 肯定的な good for societies or groups, and the 否定 or the 削減 of such 多様制 is bad. Those who 心にいだく 多様制 may spend their time working to 増加する the 多様制 of communities of which they are part, perhaps by reaching out to 含む more people from groups they feel are under-代表するd, or of which they are members.

When using "多様制" in this sense, someone might say "It's important to 改善する the 多様制 of our 事業/計画(する)", or "多様制 is one of our values".

3) 観念的な 多様制

観念的な 多様制 追加するs to 心にいだくd 多様制 an 付加 重要な political, philosophical or 観念的な 姿勢. That 姿勢 is that any notion that a particular 観念的な or 宗教的な or moral (人命などを)奪う,主張する is superior to another must be やむを得ず wrong. In other words, no political 姿勢 or 宗教 has the 権利 to pronounce itself 権利 or true and others 誤った, or even 比較して inferior. 観念的な 多様制 is not just the 観察するd fact that people have different 見解(をとる)s, nor is it 是認 of the fact that people have different 見解(をとる)s, but it makes a strong (人命などを)奪う,主張する about the 親族 長所s, or さもなければ, of the 見解(をとる)s themselves in comparison to one another. To put it another way: it's not about facts (as 観察するd 多様制 is), or an opinion about facts (as 心にいだくd 多様制 is), but it is an opinion about opinions.

Those who support 観念的な 多様制 also tend to 持つ/拘留する not just that such truth (人命などを)奪う,主張するs are 無効の, but even 表明するing them is 排除 and 脅すing, and will take steps to 抑える such 表現.

When using "多様制" in this sense, someone might say "You can't say <X> because of our 多様制 政策."

観念的な 多様制 might also be thought of an an 観念的な egalitarianism. This 見解(をとる) used to be known as "pluralism", but nowadays more often uses the language of 多様制 or of 寛容.

["寛容" is another word which has undergone a semantic 転換 in 最近の years. 存在 tolerant used to mean "I 同意しない with what you say or do but will 許す you to say or do it", but today it more often means "I 受託する your 見解(をとる) as 存在 平等に as valid as 地雷", and those who do not do so are labelled "intolerant". Today, therefore, 述べるing someone as "tolerant" means the same thing as 述べるing them as a "pluralist".]


分析

Once we have made these distinctions, there are several things which can usefully be 観察するd.

Firstly, these three are やめる 際立った. It is possible to be 受託するing of the first without 存在 in favour of the second or third; or 受託するing of the first two without 存在 in favour of the third.

Secondly, 心にいだくd 多様制, in particular, is not monolithic. People's 態度s to it can and do depend on the form of 多様制 存在 considered. For example, someone might be very happy when the gender 多様制 of a group 増加するs, not care too much one way or the other when the racial 多様制 of a group 増加するs, and be saddened when the 宗教的な 多様制 of a group 増加するs. And for a given person this may also 変化させる per group - a Christian may be happy that the 宗教的な 多様制 of his 調書をとる/予約する club has 増加するd (because he can discuss his 約束 with the new arrivals), and saddened that the 宗教的な 多様制 of his church has 増加するd (because he feels the members should be of one mind on 宗教的な 事柄s).

These two points together 示唆する that talking about someone's 見解(をとる) of or 態度 to "多様制" is not helpful; distinctions must be made, both ーに関して/ーの点でs of the form of 多様制, and the 身元 of the community under consideration.

Thirdly, if 施行するd as a belief, as its proponents have a 傾向 to do, 観念的な 多様制 土台を崩すs and 減ずるs 観察するd 多様制, because it has the 影響 of 除外するing from a community those who do not believe in it - that is, those who do not believe that all 観念的な viewpoints are 平等に valid. This 除外 is (or, one might say, should be) of 関心 to those who 心にいだく 多様制 - not just because of the 削減 of the 多様制 of ideas and thought, but because it can be that people who are in a 少数,小数派 in this way are also in a 少数,小数派 in other ways. The 除外 of a particular group from the community can 土台を崩す its 多様制 on several axes.

So even though it uses the language of 多様制, the 概念 of 観念的な 多様制 (a.k.a. "pluralism") 土台を崩すs 観察するd 多様制 and therefore 心にいだくd 多様制. It makes communities いっそう少なく diverse. How much people care about this, when it is pointed out, can be indicative of whether they really care that communities are diverse in practice, or whether they are 単に using 観念的な 多様制 as a stepping 石/投石する to a new orthodoxy which is different from the 現在の orthodoxy. To switch a society from "A is true" to "not-A is true", you often have to go 経由で "A or not-A could be true, it doesn't 事柄; stop 激しく揺するing the boat".


Mozilla

The language of 多様制 is much used within Mozilla - that is, in fact, what got me started thinking about this 支配する. I hope that when Mozillians 同意しない about 多様制 問題/発行するs, this 肉親,親類d of 分析 can be used to understand more 明確に 正確に/まさに what the 不一致 is about.

Using the 分析 given above, my own position on the three forms of 多様制 within Mozilla is as follows:

観察するd 多様制

  • I 認める Mozilla's 観察するd 多様制.
  • As I see it, the level of 観察するd 多様制 変化させるs depending on what form of 多様制 you are thinking about and which subgroup you are considering. The 従業員s of Mozilla are not very 政治上 diverse; the volunteers, much more so. The 従業員s are reasonably 人種上 diverse, but the volunteers even more so. Neither group is very gender diverse.

心にいだくd 多様制

  • I welcome all into the Mozilla community, so in that sense I 心にいだく 多様制. I am happy when anyone's 障壁s to 入ること/参加(者) into our community are lowered.
  • However, I do not believe that affirmative 活動/戦闘 (a.k.a. '肯定的な' 差別) is a good idea, so would not 本人自身で support any and all 成果/努力s to 増加する 多様制, 関わりなく means.
  • I support the 権利 of any Mozillian to work to better 含む any particular group within Mozilla that they choose. If Mozilla 公式に supports such 成果/努力s, it should do so with an even 手渡す.
  • Some people seem to 心にいだく some forms of 多様制 much more than other forms - e.g. gender 多様制 is often seen as much more important than political 多様制. There's nothing wrong with that, but perhaps they need to be more 正確な in their language and be (疑いを)晴らす about which forms of 多様制 they support and which they don't.
  • 宗教的な 多様制 in Mozilla saddens me, as I look 今後 to the 未来 day when every tongue will 自白する that Jesus Christ is Lord. But that does not make me unwelcoming to people of other 約束s.
  • 多様制 of opinion on the rightness of a wide variety of morally-重要な 活動/戦闘s saddens me for the same 推論する/理由, but again, does not make me unwelcoming.
  • I am happy to be tolerant (in its 初めの sense) of both of the above within Mozilla.

観念的な 多様制

  • I am 深く,強烈に …に反対するd to the philosophy of 観念的な 多様制, and to the idea that it should be any sort of 必要物/必要条件 or preference for joining or 存在 part of or welcomed into the Mozilla community.
  • Part of this 対立 relates to the fact that it 土台を崩すs 観察するd 多様制 and 作品 against the 目的(とする)s of 心にいだくd 多様制.
  • But also, of course, because it's wrong, 同様に as 存在 self-referentially incoherent. ("Oh, it's definitely 権利, you say? So there are no 全世界の/万国共通の truth (人命などを)奪う,主張するs... apart from that one?")
  • I think that if Mozilla is 政治上 and religiously diverse, this gives us 信用性 in political discussions, advocacy and public 政策, as it can be seen that we are not 明確に 連合した with, or 単に a 前線 for, one political 味方する.
