DEC Microprocessors

DEC Microprocessors

Introduction

DEC began working in 半導体 科学(工学)技術 in the 早期に 1970's, when it 共同製作するd with Western 数字表示式の on one of the first 16b microprocessors, the 大規模集積回路-11. From that modest start, 半導体-関係のある 事業/計画(する)s grew to encompass 半導体素子 design, CAD 道具 工学, 過程 科学(工学)技術, and silicon 製造業の and 実験(する). In 1979, all of the groups working in 半導体s moved to a new, 明言する/公表する-of-the-art 施設 in Hudson, Massachusetts. In 1981, the groups were 統一するd into a 選び出す/独身 組織の structure, first known as the VLSI Group, then the 半導体 Group, and finally as 数字表示式の 半導体. The group operated as an 統合するd 工学/製造業の 商売/仕事 until 1996, when the 製造業の and 非,不,無-microprocessor design teams were sold to Intel. In 2000, all the microprocessor design teams were sold to Intel, bringing the three-10年間 history of 数字表示式の 半導体 to an end.

I joined the 半導体 design group (then known as CSD/大規模集積回路, I believe) in 1978, as a 戦略の 分析家. Over the next twelve years, I worked as 事業/計画(する) 経営者/支配人 of the J-11 (1979-1981), group 経営者/支配人 of 前進するd 開発 (1981-1984) and 事業/計画(する) 経営者/支配人 of MicroVAX II (1982-1984), group 経営者/支配人 of Microprocessor 開発 (1984-1988), Technical Director (1988-1990), and Alpha Program 経営者/支配人 (1988-1992). I left in 1990, when the Alpha Program was transferred from the 半導体 Group to the VMS Systems Group. These twelve years were the happiest and most 生産力のある of my career at DEC. I worked with some of the best engineers in the 商売/仕事. I had the 適切な時期 to 形態/調整, manage, and 与える/捧げる to the 高度に successful VAX microprocessor series: MicroVAX II, CVAX, Rigel, and NVAX.

Microprocessors Through 1992

Each micprocessor design 事業/計画(する) is 述べるd in greater 詳細(に述べる) on its own page. Links to 半導体素子 photographs are 供給するd on the 詳細(に述べる) pages.
