Dallas / AAG sensor for 勝利,勝つd direction and 速度(を上げる)

Good news

If you have one of these splendid 装置s, it is probably getting a bit long in the tooth. New parts 利用できる!, if you want them. (Not from the editor of this page, and I 港/避難所't used the source 特記する/引用するd... but I'll be 利益/興味d to hear of anyone's experiences with the 場所/位置 特記する/引用するd!)

Introduction

支援する when Dallas 半導体s's 1-Wire 半導体素子 family was new, the 会社/堅い produced a few 装置s to give 顧客s answers to the "What's it good for?" question.

の中で them was a cleverly designed, beautifully built sensor module for 勝利,勝つd 速度(を上げる) and 勝利,勝つd direction. It 中止するd to be 利用できる from Dallas (now part of Maxim), but was 利用できる from AAG's 場所/位置. You can also get them on eBay from time to time... but see the 公式文書,認める below about 見解/翻訳/版s.

In a moment I will explain the theory of the 勝利,勝つd direction sensor's 操作/手術... it is やめる neat.

But first I need to explain that THEY MOVED MY CHEESE.

It seems that the long time excellent 勝利,勝つd 速度(を上げる)/direction sensor has been 取って代わるd. It was based on a Dallas DS2450, and you can probably still get them 経由で eBay.

The 交替/補充 for that, also from AAG, seems to have much more electronics in the sensor 長,率いる. A good thing in some ways... just be careful that you know WHICH 勝利,勝つd 速度(を上げる)/direction 部隊 you are working with. For one thing, the new one puts different signals on the pins of the connector... plug in the wrong 装置, and you could have serious problems. If the 部隊 in question has a (疑いを)晴らす 団体/死体, and decorative LEDs, it is the "new" 装置.

Catching your rabbit: If you want to buy from AAG, you'll have to go to their 場所/位置 and use the menu at the left to navigate. I don't seem to be able to give you links to the 装置 I want to tell you about.

But before that, I want to について言及する that その上の 負かす/撃墜する the page, there is a section that owners of the 装置 should 協議する for some 操作の 詳細(に述べる)s. There is also a section on 持続するing the 装置.

ソフトウェア is 利用できる for the 見解/翻訳/版 3 sensor module, either 解放する/自由な from AAG, or as shareware from the author of this page. I believe that other programs support the 部隊 too... you can see some 可能性s at my 1-Wire ソフトウェア page.

One last detour before getting to the main point of this page: A 解放する/自由な piece of ソフトウェア is 利用できる from the author of this page to help people working with the Dallas / AAG 勝利,勝つd direction and windspeed sensor. Read about it, download it at the 関連した page of my Delphi tutorials. You don't have to use Delphi to use the 道具.

Theory of 操作/手術

While I still think there is Good Stuff in what I wrote below, I must 収容する/認める that the page by the good people at the Polliniferoused コンテナ 事業/計画(する) is 優れた. Their 令状 up 会談 about the "old" AAG 勝利,勝つd 速度(を上げる)/direction sensor.

The 見解/翻訳/版 3 Dallas/ AAG 勝利,勝つd direction sensor 器具/実施するs a delightfully clever way to encode the 軸's position, as I'll 輪郭(を描く) in a moment. Just before I do, let me について言及する that earlier 見解/翻訳/版s of the 装置 were much いっそう少なく clever. The 軸 had a magnet. There were 8 reed switches. The 見解/翻訳/版 3 装置 uses the same magnet and reed switches. However, the 早期に 装置s were blunt 器具s. The system relied on 8 separate 半導体素子s which were switched on or off by the reed switches の近くにd by the magnet. One bit of "cleverness" was there, and is still part of the system: When the magnet is half-way between two reed switches, they are both switched on, so 8 switches can 解決する 16 positions.

The 見解/翻訳/版 3 system relies on 4 voltage 手段ing 装置s (ADCs) to sense the 明言する/公表する of the 8 reed switches. No 隣接する reed switches are on the same ADC. When no magnet is 近づく one of the switches, the ADC it is connected to "sees" 5 volts. When a magnet is 近づく one of the switches, the ADC "sees" either 0 volts or about 2.5 volts, depending on which switch the magnet is 近づく. For a given ADC, only one switch can be の近くにd at a given moment. Each ADC can "watch" two switches because resistors in the 回路・連盟s 許す the three possible voltages on each ADC 監視するd line.

Not "important", but maybe 利益/興味ing: If you think about it, you will notice that this system is using a base 3 number system rather than the ありふれた base 2 (binary) system which has made such a difference to what we can do easily, reliably.

Just to fill in the 詳細(に述べる): When a switch is open, the input to the ADC is connected to 5v through a resistor. As almost no 現在の flows, the ADC "sees" 5 volts. In one 事例/患者, the reed switch connects the ADC 直接/まっすぐに to 0v, so when the switch の近くにs, the ADC "sees" 0 volts. In the other 事例/患者, the reed switch connects the ADC to 0 volts through a second resistor. This, in combination with the resistor connecting the ADC to 5 volts results in the ADC "seeing" about 2.5 volts.

Thus, the ADC "sees" a high, or low, or "medium" voltage.

公式文書,認める: The "medium" voltage 変化させるs, depending on whether one or two reed switches are creating the "medium" reading. I 得るd good results if I 始める,決める the 境界 between "low" and "medium" at 15000, and the 境界 between "medium" and "high" at 47000. The 部隊s were whatever were used to return values with by the call in my program to the code which read the DS2450.

If you code "high" as "2", "medium" as "1" and "low" as "0", the に引き続いて shows the values you would see on the four ADC channels of the DS2450, in the order ABCD, if you were to 回転/交替 the 先頭 in the direction which it would 回転/交替 if the 勝利,勝つd went from... 存在 from the north to....
存在 from the east to....
存在 from the south, etc...

見解/翻訳/版s

The 勝利,勝つd 速度(を上げる)/ direction sensor on sale from at least January 2003 through the time of 令状ing is "見解/翻訳/版 3". Earlier 見解/翻訳/版s used different electronics for sensing the 勝利,勝つd direction. Both work, but you have to use the 権利 ソフトウェア for the 見解/翻訳/版 you have. 見解/翻訳/版 3 is better. You can tell one from the other by...

--the 場内取引員/株価s on the PCB:"Ceprei 見解/翻訳/版 2" (Yes: two)
or
--By using the iButton テレビ視聴者. If there is a DS2450 (ID ends hex 20), the 装置 is 見解/翻訳/版 3.

I am 利益/興味d in buying any second 手渡す Dallas Rain 計器 or 勝利,勝つd sensor (any 見解/翻訳/版). It must be in reasonable 条件 mechanically- no 割れ目s or broken bits, but I'm hoping you have one with "dead" electronics, which you are willing to sell for a price that 反映するs the fact. The "no broken bits" 必要物/必要条件 doesn't 延長する to the electronics. Shipping: It can be to the US or the UK. Please click here for my eddress.

公式文書,認めるs for owners: Configuration, 関係s to outer RJ-45 接触するs

These 公式文書,認めるs 適用する only to the 見解/翻訳/版 3 勝利,勝つd sensor. The PCB is 示すd "Ceprei ver 2.0" (See the "見解/翻訳/版s" section of this page if you are not sure if yours is one. It gives you a way to 決定する which board you have without 開始 the module, just by using the iButtonViewer.)

An RJ-11 connector is the 4 conductor connector used for US telephones. The middle two 関係s, as usual, are used for the Dallas data and ground 関係s.

N.B.: The outer connectors on the 見解/翻訳/版 3 Dallas/ AAG 勝利,勝つd sensor are used as follows:

If they are connected, to one another, the "Parasitic 力/強力にする Select" (Vcc) pin of the DS1820 気温 sensor inside the module is tied to the Dallas ground, thus configuring the 半導体素子 to operate on parasitic 力/強力にする.

AAG 供給(する) a RJ11 plug with a wire between the outer connectors. If....
        a) You want the DS1820 to be 力/強力にするd parasitically, and
        b) You have not connected anything to the outer connectors on plug going into the other RJ-11 socket, then...
...you can plug the AAG-供給(する)d shorting plug into the spare RJ-11 socket on the 勝利,勝つd 速度(を上げる)/ direction module.

However...

... be very careful that there really is nothing else using the outside wires. The IButtonLink host adapter, for example, at least いつかs, puts 5 volts on one of those wires. Modules from other 供給者s いつかs 推定する/予想する voltages to be 供給(する)d on them.

The safest course is to 切断する the wires 主要な to the outside connectors.

If you would rather 力/強力にする the DS1820 from and 外部の source of 5v, this can be fed in through one of the outside connectors, but I'm not even going to 跡をつける 負かす/撃墜する which one, because I think it is a bad idea on several grounds:

a) The 気温 sensor will almost certainly be in 十分な sun, without good ventilation around it, and with no Stevenson 審査する or 類似の. It will also often be above a hot roof, or 類似の.

b) The sensor will probably be up a 政治家... and the 5v may have degraded before reaching the module, having to pass thought a longish wire, as it will.

If you don't know what is 存在 carried by the two outside wires, and have not 厳しいd the wires, or if you do decide to 供給(する) the DS1820 with 力/強力にする 経由で the RJ-11, be sure to 除去する the shorting plug.

I have done その上の 公式文書,認めるs on the question of what signals are in which wire, and the 問題/発行する of parasitic 力/強力にするing, if you want to read more.

You can take more 激烈な approaches, as follows:

You could, with some 技術 and care, 削減(する) the traces 主要な to the DS1820. (It is the one 装置 in a half cylinder (TO92) 一括). Be careful that in your trace cutting you do not 削減(する) the traces in places where they 料金d not only the DS1820 but other things 同様に! Even if you do (only) that, you still have the 潜在的に problematic 関係 to the outside world between the 1-Wire "無 volts/ Ground" 接触する in the two RJ-11s. (削減(する) two more traces, and you've 除去するd that problem, too!) (Every one of the 接触するs in each of the RJ-11 sockets is connected to the corresponding pin in the other, by the way.) (Those 5 trace 削減(する)s, which 単に sacrifices the DS1820, would be my choice.)

In all of this, remember that as soon as you 修正する the board, you 始める,決める up the danger of someone (even yourself, a few months from now) doing something that would work 罰金 on a "normal" 見解/翻訳/版 3 勝利,勝つd sensor, but won't work in yours. These dangers are magnified if you are messing about with putting 力/強力にする in places it wasn't before.

In an unmodified board, the 力/強力にする-or-select-parasitic pin (Vcc) of the DS1820 is connected to nothing. Leave it like this, and you'll have an unreliable system. If you don't 除去する the DS1820 from the 回路・連盟, as 示唆するd above, you must connect the DS1820's Vcc pin either to 0 volts (thus selecting parasitic 力/強力にする) or to a 供給(する) of a 規制するd 5 volts. It is the outside pin that isn't the Data pin. (See my page on 1-Wire signals if you aren't sure which one that is. There's a 公式文書,認める at the 底(に届く) about the DS1820's pins.)

In an unmodified board, the outside 接触する of the RJ-11 beside the "無 volts/Ground" 接触する is connected to the same signal as the "無 volts/ ground" 接触する. (I know I've repeated this.. but you don't want to 行方不明になる it!)

There are several ways you can を取り引きする the problem, and two are 非,不,無-invasive.

PLAN A: As discussed earlier, you can tie the Vcc pin low, selecting the parasitic 力/強力にする 方式, by plugging a select-by-cable RJ-11 plug into either of the sockets. The select-by-cable RJ-11 plug 単に needs a short between the two outside 接触するs. Be careful if you 可決する・採択する this approach that your 1-Wire cabling isn't already doing something with those "spare" outside lines.

PLAN B: Alternatively, you could 永久的に select parasitic 力/強力にする by soldering a short bit of wire between the two pads on the board. With the board in 前線 of you, 構成要素s' 味方する up, RJ-11 sockets 近づく you, the pads are just above, just 権利 of the RJ-11s. One is 一連の会議、交渉/完成する, the other square, and the solder mask is absent from them for your convenience. While this approach has obvious problems, it does have the virtue of 避けるing 関係s outside the sensor, where 天候 may get at them.

If you 可決する・採択する 計画(する) B, I would 示唆する cutting the outside 跡をつける just below where you soldered the bit of wire. This will leave the outside conductor on ONE 味方する of the RJ-11 NOT connected to ground.

PLAN C: Again repeating myself: To 力/強力にする the DS1820 from off of the 勝利,勝つd sensor's board, just 料金d it in by that outside connector of the RJ-11 which is not already tied to 無 volts. Be sure that the link 示唆するd for 計画(する) B wasn't put in by someone 以前... unless you want to put a short across your 力/強力にする 供給(する)!!!

公式文書,認めるs for owners: 維持/整備

The module is beautifully made... but you must 推定する/予想する some 維持/整備 問題/発行するs with something which is outside in all 勝利,勝つd and 天候s, and which has moving parts. The anemometer reed switch in one I can look at as I'm 令状ing this on has opened and の近くにd over 100,000 times in just the past few weeks.

========
Even before you 開始する your module up it's 政治家, give it a very careful examination.

If you open the module... as you probably should, 公式文書,認める carefully which way "up" the PCB needs to be within the 住宅. The RJ-11 connectors should be on the "up" 味方する of the board. In a 関係のある vein: The anemometer should be at the 最高の,を越す of the 部隊 when it is 機動力のある on its mast. 任命する/導入する the board upside 負かす/撃墜する, and your 勝利,勝つd direction sensor will give very 混乱させるd results!

The exact 高さ above the PCB of the rotors with magnets is easily adjusted. Get it 権利. Again, which way "up" the PCB is will 事柄. Be sure the nuts are snug. A 減少(する) of something to "lock" the nuts might be worthwhile, but be sure whatever you use isn't 永久の.

At least one of the "magnets" on the rotor 武器 is a 模造の, there just to keep the system balanced.

You may want to 調印(する) the module with silicone bath sealer or 類似の.... insects and spiders like to 侵略する such places, and their webs and pupae do not help the 機能(する)/行事ing of the module.

Be sure that the "up" on the anemometer isn't rubbing against the 非,不,無-moving part of the 事例/患者ing.

You may want to go straight to looking at the results of moving the sensor's 先頭 and cups with the ソフトウェア you will be using to 監視する the 天候, or you may prefer to use something like the iButtonViewer first. My own ソフトウェア for the 部隊 供給するs both long 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 記録,記録的な/記録するing, and, in a いっそう少なく than obvious place, I 収容する/認める, nearly instantaneous readings to help in 取り付け・設備, troubleshooting. It also gives the "raw" Ds2450 (ADC) readings... but, at 8/05, a 欠陥 in the initialization 決まりきった仕事s means that you must use the iButtonViewer to configure the 半導体素子 for 5 volt 十分な 規模 ADC readings before you'll get sensible results from the 勝利,勝つd direction parts of my program. 公式文書,認める that you also need to do that initialization before you'll get sensible result from the DS2450 page of the iButtonViewer.

========
When you come to 開始する the module out in the 天候 it is going to 監視する, ask yourself whether you've chosen the best 場所/位置 利用できる to you. Consider whether buildings, trees, etc are going to 混乱に陥れる/中断させる the "true" 勝利,勝つd en 大勝する to your sensor.

工夫する a 開始するing 解答 that is 強健な but not 永久の. You will almost certainly need to take the module 負かす/撃墜する from time to time for 査察 or servicing.

Consider the 問題/発行する of 雷. I don't know enough about it to give you 明確な/細部 suggestions.... but putting a long wire between a point above your house and the 支援する of your computer inside your house does have 関わりあい/含蓄s which should be considered. I'm lucky enough to live in a low 雷 area! Some people argue that a 井戸/弁護士席 任命する/導入するd 雷 棒 減ずるs the strike in the space around the 棒... but as I said, I'm no 専門家.

Long discussions in a newsgroup 結論するd that Vaseline is a terrible 実体 to use for weatherproofing.
