This discourse will look at some of the things that, in June 2009 anyway, were beyond the reach of ooBase alone. And it looks at some 解答s.
We will, as usual, 言及する to a hypothetical database to illustrate 問題／発行するs. This time, imagine a small charity 関心d with 記録，記録的な／記録するing 記念のs to people みなすd worthy. We'll look at different levels of sophistication. At this point I will point out that most of the other tutorials on the 場所／位置 this page comes from give you much more help with how to do anything discussed. For our discussion, we will imagine that the charity's database has just three simple fields: the 指名する of each Good Person, where they were born (just the country), and a 簡潔な／要約する text 述べるing why they should be remembered. E.g. Nicholas Winton, who saved 669 children while others were sitting on their 手渡すs, and for １０年間s wasn't even 認めるd for what he did. But we're going to look at fancier things.
Suppose the charity has a LAN with several computers. There doesn't need to be a 献身的な server. Suppose the charity wants to 持つ／拘留する the database on one of the computers but wants the staff to be able to alter 記録，記録的な／記録するs in the database from more than one computer on the LAN. And the charity wants it to be possible for several members of staff to be doing updates all at the same time. In other words, multi-使用者 接近 is 要求するd.
その上の suppose the charity has some 上級の 労働者s ゆだねるd with making changes to the database, but also some junior 労働者s who need to 協議する it, but who should be 妨げるd from making any changes.

I don't think you can 演説（する）／住所 these 客観的なs with ooBase alone. (At least not in June 2009 (nor in March 2013), but of course ooBase is always getting better!) Even so, ooBase will remain a part of my 解答 for the charity. The 残り／休憩（する） of this discourse is about 道具s you could use to do the fancier things. As usual, I have been drawn to 解放する／自由な open source 一括s with wide support. 一括s which will work on Windows because so many people are tied to it. And there should be Linux 見解／翻訳／版s because that's where a lot of us are going.
That gives you an idea of what is to come in this discourse. In a moment, I will go through the different 一括s used in my 解答. You could call that the "slicing" of the 問題／発行するs I am covering. MySQL is an open source database, just as ooBase is. It has been 利用できる for much longer than ooBase, and is more powerful... but also it has a steeper learning curve. I'm not fluent in MySQL, so perhaps it is my ignorance showing, but I would also say that for many 仕事s it is much harder to use. That is not a （民事の）告訴 or 批評 of the 一括, though. Consider a sports car and a 闘士，戦闘機 jet. Both will take you from "A" to "B". The car will be easier to use. The jet will do things the car won't. ooBase is the "sports car". MySQL is the more 有能な 製品.
We'll come 支援する to MySQL. It may be all you need to 始める，決める up a multi-使用者 環境 on a LAN, with different 接近 権利s for different 使用者s... but I wouldn't recommend trying to use it on its own.
Apache is ソフトウェア to create a "web server".
Don't be alarmed by the について言及する of a "server". The computer it is running in can, at the same time, depending on the 規模 of your 操作／手術s, also be used for ordinary 仕事s.
At the simplest level, you may even have everything running in a 選び出す／独身 computer... although I'm a bit hard 圧力（をかける）d to think why you would want to go to the trouble of setting everything up if you were never going さらに先に. But you could start "inside" one machine, I think.
The next level of sophistication would be to have several machines on a LAN. One would have Apache running, but also be used as a workstation.
And finally, you could 始める，決める things up so that requests for service could arrive at the server 経由で the internet, and 返答s 派遣（する）d 経由で that medium. Be careful if you go this far: I don't know enough about the 安全 関わりあい／含蓄s to advise you reliably about what 正確に／まさに you need to do to remain 安全な once you make your system 明白な on the 逮捕する. It can, of course, be done. And I don't think that what I'm discussing here is hard to do 適切に. But I can't say for sure.
A web server takes care of a few things. の中で other things, it "listens" for requests, which come from 使用者s sat in 前線 of browsers. You can use MySQL without 任命する／導入するing phpMyAdmin.... but, 特に for a beginner, I don't think would recommend trying. If you are still trying to shirk the 始める，決める up 問題／発行するs, l will try to relieve your 苦悩 by telling you that for learning about MySQL and phpMyAdmin, there is an 補欠／交替の／交替する 大勝する open to you that 伴う／関わるs almost no setting up at all!

At the start, I said I would "slice and dice" the knowledge this discourse covers. I'm now about to take my first pass through some of it.
I called this section "はうing" as in "we はう before we walk." Of course, the 事柄s here are not really accessible to a 完全にする novice... but if you are ready for them, you are on the 辛勝する／優位 of a big 打開. Compared to the 完全にする novice you are already doing 公正に／かなり 井戸／弁護士席, or you would not have read this far. But if you 押し進める through this little incline on the learning curve, you will see enormous new vistas ahead of you, and you will think "How could I, 以前, ever have been so unskilled?"
I am going to assume that you already have a web account, and some fluency in 地位，任命するing static pages to the web. If you don't, then 恐れる not... you don't NEED those pre-requisites for the OTHER approach that this discourse follows... but read through what is to come anyway. (It 設立するs some basic knowledge, even if you won't be able to try things as they are 述べるd.)
If you are lucky, your web hosting service already 許すs you to work with a MySQL database or two, as part of your web hosting account. And it will have phpMyAdmin 始める，決める up for your use. Certainly the nice people at 1&1 申し込む／申し出 this in many of their 一括s. If it is not too late, be sure to 調印する up (or 移転 over) to Linux based hosting. (Don't worry... most of the time, you won't know that is what you are using, and nor will 訪問者s to your web pages.) I'm sure that 1&1 is not the only hosting service to 許す you MySQL and phpMyAdmin 接近, but what follows will 正確に／まさに match 1&1's offerings. 1&1 have done a good 職業 for me for years, I've never felt an 勧める to try any other hosting service. Those of you using other services may have to work through differences, but the underlying 原則s, and the 操作／手術 of phpMyAdmin, should be the same.
At the time of 令状ing, June 2009, even 1&1's beginner Linux 一括 ($3.99 per month) 許すs you 10 MySQL databases. (At 3/13, I think I was still on the basic 一括, and I still had MySQL database use 許すd.) If you must have an MS 一括, then in 2009, to get MySQL from 1&1 you needed to 支払う／賃金 for the "MS 商売／仕事" 一括 ($10/month)... and I'm not sure you would have phpMyAdmin 利用できる. The 製品 comparison pages, in 2009, at 1&1, imho, could have been be more （疑いを）晴らす. You may still need to click on sundry "More features" 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業s. But, as I said, I like their service! So. We'll assume you have a web hosting service which 許すs you MySQL databases and the use of phpMyAdmin.

All you need is three fields. For such 演習s, I tend to pretend I'm running an army, and I 始める，決める up something like....

The first time I saw the phpMyAdmin page, I was 全く baffled. I 全く 行方不明になるd the point of what I could do. (I didn't do much better the second or third times!) It isn't hard, I 約束... but it is if you 港／避難所't 設立する a page like the one you are reading, and you are self taught.
This isn't the place for a 十分な guide to using phpMySQL. I will 令状 one 結局 maybe, again if enough people email and ask. But for now....
The first (and greatest) secret is that when phpMySQL opens, it is not yet connected to a particular database. It is a 広大な／多数の／重要な 道具 (a MySQL （弁護士の）依頼人, in fact) for working with MySQL databases. Since it isn't tied to any one database, it follows that when you start it, you need to tell it which database you want to work with today. As a beginner, of course, this doesn't occur to you, as you only have one database.

Fill in as few fields as you can when "doing things" with phpMyAdmin. If in 疑問, leave a field blank. phpMyAdmin will usually use something sensible for you. Do be sure to 始める，決める up the "Serial" (Number) field as a 最初の／主要な 重要な for the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する. There's a 無線で通信する button you tick to make a field a 最初の／主要な 重要な. Make Serial of type "int" (for "integer"), and select "Extra" "auto_increment".

Click "Browse" and you can see your data.

You can use ooBase as a "前線 end" (or （弁護士の）依頼人) for MySQL databases. You 保持する the delights of working with ooBase's friendly GUI design 道具s. (For many things. I'm getting the impression, or maybe I'm just making mistakes, but some things seem to be done 経由で the GUI, for instance giving a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する which didn't have one before a 最初の／主要な 重要な... but when you look at it again a moment later, the 最初の／主要な 重要な hasn't "taken", the field hasn't 現実に been 変えるd to a 最初の／主要な 重要な, even though you got no error message. Sigh.)You 伸び（る） MySQL's ability to support 多重の 使用者s, 配分する 特権s, be 接近d across the web. Fantastic. What's the bad news?
I am pretty sure (3/13) that you cannot connect to a 1&1 hosted MySQL database across the web using ooBase.... MAJOR BUMMER!!! This isn't a shortcoming of Open Office or of MySQL... it is a 決定／判定勝ち（する） taken by the sysadmins at 1&1 about the levels of 安全 they want to 施行する for your webpages and databases.
But all is not lost.
And maybe you didn't want to work across the web, anyway.
The work we've done so far has NOT been a waste of time. You've met MySQL. You've made a start with phpMyAdmin. Now "all" you need to do is turn your 支援する on 1&1 and do for yourself the bits they were doing for you! (Edit of 3/13: And in that 事例／患者, you will only need Open Office and MySQL, not the "十分な" WAMP, PHP, etc, etc.)
You will need Open Office (or 同等（の）) and MySQL (or 同等（の）) even if you only want to have a multi-使用者 database on your LAN. (If you don't want that, just stick with ooBase on it's own! But ooBase "doesn't do" multi-使用者 (or remote) 接近 on it's own.)
A little 詳細（に述べる）: BACK IN JUNE 2009: Before my 1&1 page would serve the page I've shown you, the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of 指名するs and 階級s from my MySQL database in my 1&1 account, I had to 追加する a とじ込み／提出する called...

You have an idea of MySQL. You have an idea of phpMyAdmin. We're going to 始める，決める both up in a computer on our LAN.. but this time, we will leave 1&1 out of the equation.

Let me 簡潔に jump to "dessert"....
By the end of this we will have sketched the setting up of many things. Once those things are in place, and once you are 十分に 確信して that you've taken care of the 安全 問題／発行するs, "開始 the door" to give people across the world 接近 to your database is only a small step past letting the people on your LAN have 接近. And, like the LAN 使用者s, you can give or with-持つ／拘留する 許可 to do things on a remarkably granular basis.
That 接近 can be at a 比較して simple level. At the simple level, the 使用者 will 解雇する／砲火／射撃 up their ooBase, and "talk to" your database with that, as if the 使用者's computer held the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs, queries, etc. 地元で. However, when you get to 支配するs with php programming, you can create web pages which "do things", such as asking the 使用者 for input, and then returning （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） 決定するd by that input. There's a good article on php at Wikipedia.
March 2013 edit: You don't need all of the things discussed here just to use MySQL and ooBase together on your LAN. My 2013 MySQL essays may be a better place to start. I'd recommend what is below more as 付加 構成要素, to "演習" your understanding, once you have some basics （疑いを）晴らす in your mind. (End 2013 edit.)

All that I am going to 述べる below should be possible on Windows boxes, I think. In June 2009, I was 調査するing the 問題／発行するs with a Linux box on my LAN (Ubuntu, 見解／翻訳／版 8, "Hardy Heron") 持つ／拘留するing MySQL, phpMyAdmin and Apache. Another computer on the LAN, a Windows box, was used to 実験（する） the system's ability to operate in multi-使用者 方式. (And thus, though it wasn't my 目的, I of course also 実験（する）d/ 論証するd the xxx OS of the （弁護士の）依頼人 does not need to match the OS running the server.) I also used the Windows box for my 早期に struggles with 接近ing the MySQL server over the internet.
STOP PRESS: (From about 2010. Repeated どこかよそで on this page.) Since 令状ing the 本体，大部分／ばら積みの of this, I have also 任命する／導入するd, very easily, a 十分な WAMP (Windows Apache/ MySQL/ PHP) 環境 in a Windows XP box. Not FULLY 実験（する）d yet... but it was such a joy to 任命する／導入する, and has passed 予選 実験（する）s. (公式文書，認める 追加するd 3/13: Since this page was 初めは written, 支援する in 2009, I've used WAMP a number of times without hassle, without 悔いる. I have two WAMP systems routinely connected to the internet. I can't remember when they went online, it has been so long.) N.B.: There is more than one "WAMP" out there. The one I used, and am so impressed by, is WAMPServer, 以前は known as WAMP5, from http://www.wampserver.com/. With one download, one 任命する／導入する, you get all the different parts 述べるd in this essay 任命する／導入するd with no fuss.
In June 2009, I was very new to Linux... but I use Firefox and Open Office for most of the things I do with computers, so only the color 計画／陰謀 tells me if I'm using the Linux box or a Windows box. I 港／避難所't done a lot more with it since, as of March 2013. (So many operating systems, so little time.) My LAN had no "server".... although "servers" are running in some of the peers on the LAN. (Don't let that last 声明 worry you if it makes no sense. Just take away the message that You Can Do This even if all you have is two computers connected to one another with simple とじ込み／提出する 株ing in 活動／戦闘. You don't need anything "fancy"... like "a server", using the 称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 in the sense of a PC 献身的な to Doing Things that are beyond the realms we need to think about here...to do what I wrote about in this section in 2009. Why can't English be as unambiguous as a programming language?
(3/13 edit: 支援する in 2009, I said: "A little 自白... I 港／避難所't got everything you see below working yet... but, with 40 years of working with computers, I don't think I'm 存在 無謀な when I say that all that's left is finding a few 権利 tick boxes in a firewall 支配する, or line in the Apache config script, etc." At 3/13, I think I have got "everything" working on a Windows based system.)
First, of course, 始める，決める up your Open Office 取り付け・設備. 見解／翻訳／版 3.1 has some 改良s to ooBase. Probably 価値（がある） doing the 昇格, if you 港／避難所't already. The old ooBase "作品"... and 作品 井戸／弁護士席... but you might 同様に do the 昇格.
I was disappointed on 14 June 2009 when I 設立する that the 見解／翻訳／版 of ooBase that my Ubuntu box 任命する／導入するd "the 平易な way" was only ooBase 2.4. However, it did "work" to create a VERY simple little database. Even the form wizard worked. Either the old problem has been 直す／買収する，八百長をするd, or I didn't invoke the bit that 原因（となる）d trouble in the old days.
That was a 転換. I was talking about ooBase on my Ubuntu box, and you don't need it on every machine, anyway... just on those machines where you want to use it to 接近 either its own databases, or MySQL databases.
I do most of my ooBase work on a Windows machine, XP for several years now, ooBase 見解／翻訳／版 3.1 with Sun 報告（する）／憶測 建設業者 1.1. (That was my configuration in June 2009. At March 2013, I still use XP for most things.)
If you are just starting with MySQL + Open Office, do, please, "危険" (not 広大な／多数の／重要な) "updating" yourself to the 最新の 見解／翻訳／版s of both before starting.
As I said, you could put Apache, MySQL, php services and phpMyAdmin on a Windows box, I believe, but for my 実験（する）s I have been using a Ubuntu box. (3/2013: Yes, you can put them on a Windows box as easily.)
I made a 誤った start. I'd already 任命する／導入するd some bits before I （機の）カム across a page in the 公式の／役人 Ubuntu documentation 説 that there is an 平易な way to 追加する "LAMP": Linux/ Apache/ MySQL/ PHP. You know "all" (井戸／弁護士席 almost all) about all four of those parts, don't you? Aren't you glad you've had the 利益 of my explanations? (The page just 特記する／引用するd is for people like me who are "直す／買収する，八百長をするing" an 存在するing Ubuntu 始める，決める up. It is 十分な of "stuff"... but Good Stuff.)
If you are only getting ready to 始める，決める up a Linux box, setting it up as a server from the 手始め might be a better way to go. Perhaps 同様に to go for the "十分な" "LAMP" 一括. Maybe just 始める，決める it up with the "M" part of that. (A "LAMP" 一括 任命する／導入するs, for Linux, Apache (server to 答える／応じる Firefox, Safari, and the like), a MySQL server (which we need for the basics of what we are discussing here, and a PHP "engine", so that you can use PHP code in your .htm pages.) (2013: It is) I already have an Apache server working 罰金 on a Windows machine. (It serves my Far Watch 構成要素. You can use it, if you wish, to see what the 天候's been doing at my home!
There's another good web page about 任命する／導入するing LAMP at http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu_lamp_for_newbies. It gives you some useful 実験（する）s for the different parts of the 一括, and について言及するs some "minor" tweaks you may need to make.
Happily, and to Linux's credit, I don't think I paid any price for my 誤った start. My LAMP 取り付け・設備 went 井戸／弁護士席... although as I said, a few things don't やめる work yet. Maybe 予定 to the kludgy 取り付け・設備. Probably just 予定 to my novice status in Linux land, and not 問題／発行するing some 命令（する） 正確に.
I won't say much more about Apache in this.

権利! We'll take it that you now have a LAN with a Windows computer with ooBase 3.1 and a Ubuntu computer with LAMP. (This is NOT the "minimalist" answer to just using Open Office and MySQL together. But it isn't a lot more work, and opens many other 可能性s. The 十分な LAMP (or WAMP) is necessary if you want more than just the Open Office- as- （弁護士の）依頼人 接近 to your MySQL database. It is necessary if you want to use the PHP approach. There is more on the "いっそう少なく 複雑にするd" approach at the pages about Open Office/ MySQL 統合，差別撤廃 which I wrote in March 2013.
On the Ubuntu box, 開始する，打ち上げる your browser. I use Firefox. Enter...
localhost/phpmyadmin
into the 演説（する）／住所 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業. (公式文書，認める that's 事例／患者 極度の慎重さを要する. Don't use, say, localhost/phpMyAdmin in a fit of typographical exuberance.)
You should see phpMyAdmin's login page, just as you did if you tried 1&1's 取り付け・設備 of phpMyAdmin.
The に引き続いて is a Bad Idea, but the only one open to you at the moment: スピードを出す／記録につける in using the "root" account for the MySQL 体制／機構 on that computer (Not the "root" 使用者 for the whole computer.) (Username "root".)
Before, with all that 力／強力にする, you mess anything up, go 負かす／撃墜する to "特権s". On the page which opens when you click that, create a new 使用者....

Don't click anything else in the next few lines, but 負かす／撃墜する in the 全世界の 特権s section, and tick....
(You might want to tick "減少（する）" in the Structure section too, but if you 減少（する） a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する, you 削除する it. I don't think I'll want to do that often, and I certainly don't want to do it by mistake, so I withheld that 特権 from the MeForTrials 使用者. I can always スピードを出す／記録につける in as a more powerful 使用者 if I want to 減少（する） a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する.)
Click the "Go" button. Click the "Home" icon, left of window, and スピードを出す／記録につける out. スピードを出す／記録につける 支援する in as MeForTrials, or whatever you called your weak 使用者.
You're in. Again! Now, using the 技術s you learned while using the 1&1 供給するd MySQL + phpMyAdmin, you can create a database, give it a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する, put data in the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する, etc.... can't you?! (grin)
On the Linux box, open a 終点 window, type ifconfig (not the Windows-familiar ipconfig), and 公式文書，認める the Linux box's IP 演説（する）／住所 within the LAN. In my 事例／患者, it was 192.168.0.5
On the Windows box open a web browser, e.g. Firefox, and type the に引き続いて into the 演説（する）／住所 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業, changing the numbers of the IP 演説（する）／住所 to match that of your Linux box....
192.168.0.5/phpmyadmin
.. and the phpMyAdmin スピードを出す／記録につける in 審査する MAY appear. It did when I was working on this just now. If the スピードを出す／記録につける in 審査する did not appear, you may have experienced what I did... once. The first time I 始める，決める up my weak 使用者, I said give him 接近 for "any host". Subsequently, I "had" to go 支援する and 始める，決める up two copies of the 使用者, one for "地元の: localhost" and one for "地元の: 127.0.0.1"... at least it seemed at the time that I had to do that. Until I did something... the 詳細（に述べる）s of which I can't now 解任する.... didn't work. You know the feeling?
Anyway.....
What you should have now is...
Yes... I mean that BOTH boxes have 接近 to the one database, at the same time. 公式文書，認める too that we don't need to have 任命する／導入するd anything on the Windows box. (Apart from Firefox. Internet Explorer would "do" if you don't want to 任命する／導入する Firefox)
Try changing the data in your （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する with each of the machines. As soon as you make a change, click "Browse" while looking at the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する on the other machine, to 安心させる yourself that everything is working just 罰金. This is 冷静な／正味の! (You do have to click Browse again after any changes if you want to see the changes.)
But that isn't everything we 手配中の，お尋ね者. While you can do a 広大な／多数の／重要な を取り引きする the database with phpMyAdmin alone, you can't do much easily
Here we reach the 限界 of things I could tell you how to do in June 2009. However, I stand by my earlier 確信して 主張: They CAN be done. (My Jan-March 2013 work vindicated that hope.)
The things that CAN be done, (and I WILL 割れ目 the 詳細（に述べる）s, by the way,) are....
You can: 接近 and manipulate of the data in the database using ooBase as a "前線 end" or "（弁護士の）依頼人" of that (MySQL) database. (任命する／導入するing the MySQL ODBC connector (aka driver) WAS part of the "how". Since I 初めは wrote that, Open Office as acquired its own, native, MySQL connector. Very good news.)
You can: 接近 to the database 経由で a web page. The first sort of 接近 will be simple, like the 接近 I already 論証するd to you, letting you see the 指名するs and 階級s of people at my 1&1 hosted MySQL database.
Once that's sorted out, I'll turn to learning more about php. (You can use php in pages hosted at 1&1, by the way.) I am 確信して that you can, for instance, create a web page that lets the 使用者 say "Show me everyone with the 階級 of XYZ in the database", where XYZ is something that the 使用者 types in, e.g. "Captain".
It is, I'm sure, even possible to give "the world" a way to alter what's in your database 経由で a web page. The only alteration I'd be inclined to 許す the world would be the 選択 of 追加するing 記録，記録的な／記録するs. I wouldn't 権力を与える strangers to 削除する 記録，記録的な／記録するs or alter 存在するing 記録，記録的な／記録するs. Such granular 許可s, are possible!
