You may find that the database 存在 shipped with OpenOffice (ver.2 and higher) delights you as much as it has me. This page tries to help you use it.

You will learn how to make a small database with fields which 持つ／拘留する images. In the tutorial they are photos, but they could also be diagrams, 製図／抽選, etc. This isn't a very 需要・要求するing tutorial. But it does show you the "tricks" of something that has many uses.
特に, we will create a database with pictures of some North American birds. (The photos are 供給するd for you.) Each 記録，記録的な／記録する will consist 簡単に of an 索引 number, the bird's 指名する, and the bird's photo.
Besides discussing the 明確な／細部 tricks to putting an image field into a database, this tutorial also gives you some help with 詳細（に述べる）s of creating and editing form designs.
I do go off on one little 転換, talking of extra fields you might have, but not a lot of time is spent on that.
Before we delve into the tutorial, I would like to thank the contributors to the ooBase 会議 at OOoForum. That is a 広大な／多数の／重要な place to "hang out" if you want to 拡大する your ooBase 技術s. You can download a 見解／翻訳／版 of the database, but you may need at least OO 3.1 (and...maybe... SRB 1.1 (now called ORB, and in 見解／翻訳／版s 1.2.1)) to open it fully. It is 3.9 meg big, because of the embedded images.

Of all the tutorials I have 地位，任命するd about ooBase, I would say that in the year up to October 2010 perhaps the ones that give rise to the most correspondence are those about using images in databases.
ooBase has been stable and reliable in its 核心 features for many years now, in my experience and opinion.
Having said that, I must 譲歩する... and celebrate!... that it is a continually 発展させるing 製品. Unlike 確かな 製品 line developers, which try to give everything to everyone, from time to time the Open Office 製品 team take hard 決定／判定勝ち（する）s and re-work elements of the design. When this happens, the way some things work いつかs changes. The 代案／選択肢 is ソフトウェア that gets more and more bloated, and more and more unreliable. (The changes tend to be on the fringes, but when it is a "fringe" you were using, it is tiresome.)
It would seem that the way images are managed with ooBase has been one area where changes have been みなすd necessary. I hope you will find my tutorials, even the ones on images, useful... but I must 収容する／認める that in October 2010, there seems to have been 声明s here that weren't やめる 権利 for the 現在の ooBase! But they've been 直す／買収する，八百長をするd!! I would encourage you to "go for" Open Office 昇格s almost as soon as they become 利用できる. Don't do one just before needing your system for something important.... 昇格s are always somewhat risky... but on the whole, I've 設立する that Open Office 昇格s go 滑らかに, and bring welcome enhancements.
One other little point about graphics and ooBase: I often get people 令状ing to ask "How do I embed the graphics within the database?" I think it can be done, but, except for some special 事例／患者s, I think it is a Bad Idea. Those special 事例／患者s would be times when there are not very many graphics to embed, and when they can be small とじ込み／提出するs. We're going to do just that (embed images in the database) in this tutorial, just to get started with images in a database. The more 前進するd "answer" isn't so very much harder. It is explained in my tutorial about databases 接近ing 外部の images.
Create a new database. Put it in it's own folder, call it BirdsWImages. (Most of the 指名するs I've 示唆するd could be different, if you felt 堅固に about it.)(指名する from "BirdsW(ith)Images".)
始める，決める up a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する. (Create in Design 見解（をとる） would probably be 罰金.)
Fields:
索引 (Integer:INTEGER, Autovalue=yes, 最初の／主要な 重要な) BirdsPicture (Image:LONGVARBINARY) 指名する (Text:VARCHAR)
Be sure to 始める，決める 索引 as 最初の／主要な 重要な.
Save the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する as BirdsWImagesT1. (The 指名するs don't have to be unique, but I like to fight ambiguity.)
A biologist doing this might say that in place of a "boring" number called "索引", using the "Latin" 指名する for the 最初の／主要な 重要な would make sense. It would be using a natural unique 重要な, something that you always want to look for ways to do. However, in this 事例／患者 we might have more than one 記録，記録的な／記録する per 種類, so the "Latin" 指名する would only be part of the answer, anyway. (We might, for instance, not have just one picture for the mallard duck... The male and 女性（の） look different, as do the juveniles.)
The techniques explained in this tutorial 許す you to 蓄える／店 photos of whatever you want. For the sake of the tutorial, I have made a collection of photos of some birds 利用できる. (You may make whatever use you wish of those photos, except a use that 制限するs anyone else from doing the same. I 主張する 所有権 of their copyright. Don't get too excited... they're not good photos!)(You can 接近 a 広大な library of 王族-解放する／自由な images online at a sister 事業／計画（する） of Wikipedia, by the way.)
They are in a Windows "self-抽出するing 古記録" 用意が出来ている with WinZip. Before you download the 古記録, make a folder for it. You'll use the same folder for the images that will come from the 古記録. The folder can be dispensed with before you finish this tutorial, so don't agonize over "the 権利 place" for it. Once you have the folder, all you have to do is download the 古記録, and then 二塁打-click on it. The unzipper will start up, and ask you where (what folder) to 蓄える／店 the images. It puts 10 small .bmp とじ込み／提出するs in that folder. Each one is 指名するd for the bird shown in the とじ込み／提出する. Each is about 200k. (That's probably bigger than it needs to be.) (I don't know the 完全にする 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of image 判型s that ooBase can 扱う. I believe it is やめる 広範囲にわたる.) (I tried putting an animated gif into the database. It was possible to have it in the database, but only the first でっちあげる，人を罪に陥れる of the 活気／アニメーション was 陳列する，発揮するd, i.e. you could see the gif... but "paused". If anyone knows how to get it to work more fully, please get in touch?)
They are in a Windows "self-抽出するing 古記録" 用意が出来ている with WinZip, for which the に引き続いて (and above) 指示／教授／教育s 適用する. They are also 利用できる as a mere .zip とじ込み／提出する, for which the に引き続いて 指示／教授／教育s partly 適用する.
Once you have run the self-抽出するing 古記録 once, you won't need it anymore, other than for backup. Once the database is 完全にする, you won't need the .bmp とじ込み／提出するs, either. (Copies of the images will 存在する within the database. There is another approach for managing image data. It is beyond the 範囲 of this tutorial, but, in a nutshell, the database is 始める，決める up to 蓄える／店 the path to the image とじ込み／提出する rather than the image itself. that approach is covered in another tutorial, but I would encourage you to finish the one you are reading now, as the other tutorial assumes you've read what follows here.)
The photos in the 始める，決める you were given are all about the same size. I'll say more on the 支配する of the images' sizes later.
Get a form started by using the Wizard....
At "Step 1", I 攻撃する，衝突する the first "little mystery": Only the 索引 and 指名する fields appeared to be 利用できる for 傾向 in the form, にもかかわらず an explicit 公式文書，認める once 現在の in the wizard window which said (and may still be 説!) "Binary fields are always 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）d and selectable from the left 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）. If possible, they are 解釈する／通訳するd as images." That seems to be wrong, but 恐れる not! We're using the wizard 簡単に to create a first 草案 of the form we need. We want the "指名する" field, but don't need the "索引" field on our form. Click Next.
Step 2: There's no need for any subforms. Click Next, which will take us straight to step 5.
Step 5: Arrange the 支配（する）／統制するs "Columnar- labels on 最高の，を越す." Click Next.
Step 6: Leave the tick in 前線 of "The form is to 陳列する，発揮する all data". Do not tick "The form is to be used for entering..." Do not click on any of the "Do not 許す...." boxes. Click Next.
Step 7: Play with these settings if you wish... but it isn't necessary. Click Next.
Step 8: 指名する the form "BirdsWImagesF1", and select "修正する the form", and click "Finish".
Don't be alarmed if a few things are 半端物... like the labels above the edit boxes.
You may need to 広げる the 支配（する）／統制するs to see all of the text of the label.
(Most readers will be able to just go on to the next steps. If, however, you have の近くにd the form before you start (or re-visit) the に引き続いて steps, be advised that you must not re-open the form 簡単に by clicking on its 指名する in the ooBase 事業／計画（する） 管理／経営 window. You need to 権利-click and select "Edit". This is not a quirk of the database with images; it is an always 現在の 保護（する）／緊急輸入制限.)
Use 見解（をとる） | Toolbars to be sure that the Form 支配（する）／統制するs and Form Design toolbars are showing. (詳細（に述べる）s at my "指名するing of Parts" page for the Form 支配（する）／統制するs and More 支配（する）／統制するs toolbars.)
Be sure you are in design 方式. (If you click on the already 現在の 指名する-field 支配（する）／統制する while you are in design 方式, you will get 8 drag 扱うs. There's a "Design 方式 On/ Off" button on the Form Design toolbar to switch in and out of design 方式. (詳細（に述べる）s at my "指名するing of Parts" page for the Form 航海士 and that. Is there no end to the help 利用できる?!)
If, in the wizard, you, like me, were only able to 追加する the 索引 and 指名する fields to the form, you will 追加する the BirdsPicture field to the form "by 手渡す", in Form Design 方式. You might think it would be 平易な, and it is, but there are a few little 新たな展開s. What follows is probably at the heart of most people's problems with doing databases with images... the 残り／休憩（する） of the 職業 is pretty straightforward. I 設立する this part of "my" tutorial in a 地位，任命する by the helpful Drew Jensen in the excellentOOoForum. I have lightly 修正するd 見解／翻訳／版 of what he said. If you are not familiar with the Form 航海士 (as 際立った from the ordinary, F5, 航海士, you may want to look at my just について言及するd short introduction to the Form 航海士.

Click the 'Form 航海士' button on the form design toolbar.
This opens a window with a tree 見解（をとる） showing all your form's dataform 支配（する）／統制するs.
In the 事例／患者 of a form newly created with the wizard, the dataform you want is 指名するd MainForm. Using your mouse select this dataform.
支援する on the Form Design toolbar is a button for 追加する Field; it is the button just to the 権利 of the Form 航海士 button. Click on it.
This opens a window 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）ing all of the fields in the datasource used by the dataform 支配（する）／統制する. You should find "BirdsPicture" in the 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）.
Use your mouse to drag the image field from the 追加する Field window の上に the form.
What you've just done should 追加する two 支配（する）／統制するs to your form, a label field and an image 支配（する）／統制する.

The two 支配（する）／統制するs are, at the moment, "grouped". If, still in design 方式, you click on what you 追加するd you should get drag 扱うs, and then you can move it around to just the 権利 位置／汚点／見つけ出す. The new label field and the new image 支配（する）／統制する will move together, because they are grouped. This is good if you want to position them. It is not so helpful if you want to change something 明確な／細部 to one of them, for instance (as you may have to) the size of the label field.
Before you can 接近 the 明確な／細部s of either, you need to "ungroup" them. Happily this is 平易な.
権利-click on the group. You should see "group" on the menu, and an "ungroup" 選択 once you click on that. Just before you ungroup the label field and the image 支配（する）／統制する, click on "支配（する）／統制する...". You'll see a few 所有物／資産／財産s, e.g. enabled (yes/ no) and background color. Now ungroup the members of the group. Click outside the group's 境界s, to de-select the members of the group. (以前, you had the group selected. It is possible to select 多重の 支配（する）／統制するs, in which 事例／患者 what you see is 類似の to what you see if you group them and select the group.) Now 権利-click on the image 支配（する）／統制する, and select "支配（する）／統制する..." again. Now you see rather more 所有物／資産／財産s, and data and events tags have also appeared.
So: to work with a "幅の広い 小衝突", you can group things, and operate on the group as an （独立の）存在. For 詳細（に述べる）d work, you need to ungroup things, and work on each 支配（する）／統制する 個々に.
A quick word about selecting 多重の 反対するs and how to group them, and then we'll get 支援する to the database with images.
I couldn't find a way to select 多重の 反対するs by 転換-click or 支配（する）／統制する-click... but there is a simple way. All you have to do is drag a box out around the 反対するs you wish to select. The "select" 道具 has to be the one 現在／一般に selected, but it probably is, anyway. It is the mouse pointer arrow at the left end of both the form design and the form 支配（する）／統制するs toolbar.
There is one little trick to selecting 多重の 反対するs: The box you drag out must 完全に enclose all of every 反対する you want in the multi-選択.
As you have probably guessed: To group (or re-group) 反対するs: Select all the 反対するs you want in the group. 権利-click inside the 選択. Click "Group..." and then "Group" again from the sub-menu. 平易な when you know how!
追加する a 航海 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 支配（する）／統制する to the form, too. It is on the More 支配（する）／統制するs toolbar. (See my "指名するing of Parts" 公式文書，認める, if you need help getting the 航海 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 支配（する）／統制する.)
Re-size the form and its elements to suitable sizes.
Leave the design 方式. The form's now ready. Next we're going to put some data in the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する's 記録，記録的な／記録するs.... words in the "指名する" field (the bird 指名するs) and pictures in the "BirdPicture" field. Again, it is 平易な when you know how.
Now... to enter our first 記録，記録的な／記録する. 明白に, you're not going to "type" the photo into the 記録，記録的な／記録する... but how DO you enter a picture?
If you 権利-click on the image field on the form, and keep the button 負かす／撃墜する (unlike a normal "権利 click"), you'll get "挿入する graphic from..." Move the mouse pointer の上に the "挿入する graphic from..." text and then 解放（する） it. A "負担 とじ込み／提出する" dialog should come up. 選ぶ an graphic. It should appear in the field on your form! Fill in the bird's 指名する. That's it!
Use the 航海 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 to go to the next 記録，記録的な／記録する. 追加する another image.
Beware: At this 行う／開催する／段階 it would probably be a good idea to 完全に shut ooBase 負かす／撃墜する. の近くに the form. の近くに the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する if it is still open. の近くに ooBase.
You don't have to do this every time you enter two 記録，記録的な／記録するs! But as this is a new database, and as you are (推定では) new to 追加するing images to a database, this 二塁打-check that all is 井戸／弁護士席 seems 令状d. There are lots of things in computers that work once... but then mysteriously are "broken" the next time you try them from a standing start. Happily, usually if things work on the second 裁判，公判, they will work on the third, fourth, fifth, etc.
再開する ooBase. 再開する the form. If all has gone 井戸／弁護士席, you'll see your data!
We have a working database, with images!
After putting two .bmps into my database, one of 287k, the other of 248k, the database とじ込み／提出する (BirdsWImages.odb) was 759k.
I then went 支援する to the database and entered three more 記録，記録的な／記録するs, 伴う／関わるing 670k more in image data. I left the last 記録，記録的な／記録する I entered, to "確実にする" that it had been written to the database.
Here's the "半端物" thing: I looked at BirdsWImages.odb again... and it was still only 759k. Here's a 汚い little secret: ooBase （武器などの）隠匿場所s things to memory. It doesn't automatically 紅潮／摘発する things to disk as soon as you might think it would. It didn't 令状 the new data to the disk when I の近くにd the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する. It only wrote to the disk when I の近くにd ooBase. (The とじ込み／提出する then "grew" to 1,783k.) Now... this is 広大な／多数の／重要な for 業績／成果... but! What happens if you have a 衝突，墜落 at the wrong moment? There is a 大型の you can 追加する to your database which will 許す you to 軍隊 a 紅潮／摘発する- to- disk, but that's a story for another time. If you BUY a piece of my ソフトウェア, I will get the tutorial written up before I cash your check! (But remind me of those 条件 when you send it.)
There are many ways to 蓄える／店 images on a computer, and many choices associated with each way. As you work with images, you will learn more about...
I'll go into these in a moment, but first a word about why we care.
The different choices 許す us to 達成する a 妥協 appropriate to our needs. We have to get a balance between having a "good" image, and having an image that doesn't take acres of disk space, hours to manipulate, hours to fetch over the internet, can't be used on many people's systems, etc, etc. (That last "wished for" item might be the opposite of what we want in some circumstances. 推定では the 中央情報局 has images which it would prefer to be readable only on their computers? It can be done... with the 貯蔵 判型.)
One other thing, before discussing the image 所有物／資産／財産s just 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる）d: 道具s. Any decent photo 巧みな操作 ソフトウェア will have a way to 輸出（する） images to a variety of 貯蔵 判型s, at 決意／決議s, etc, of the 使用者's choosing. (I like Serif's PhotoPlus, not least because Serif will give you a 解放する／自由な copy of PhotoPlus, with no 不当な 制限s, of a very useable, if not 完全に up to date, 見解／翻訳／版. And if you like that, the cost of their 最新の/ greatest 見解／翻訳／版 is reasonable. (That page is いつかs unresponsive. Try it at ten minute intervals if it is not 答える／応じるing.) If you want to get a little way into manipulating images, without "doing" very much to your computer, or taking on another learning chore, the excellent Irfan テレビ視聴者 will do a lot with image re-saving, size changing, etc. While I said you might want to 避ける a learning chore, and you can use Irfan for many things without any 熟考する／考慮する, if you do take time in it's help とじ込み／提出するs, you will find it amazingly 有能な. For instance: My camera puts ExIF data into my jpegs. With Irfan I can change the 指名するs "IMG0234", "IMG0235", IMG0236", etc, to "2007-06-12 12:00:00", "2007-06-12 12:01:06", "2007-06-12 12:01:58", assuming the photos were taken on June 12th, around noon... all automatically. I don't have to type in all that "stuff"... Irfan will pull it from the image's 内部の data.
So! 支援する to the 小型の tutorial on images...
貯蔵 判型s: You've probably heard of "bmp", "jpeg", etc? These are 貯蔵 判型s. They each have プロの／賛成のs and 反対／詐欺s... or else one would have 取って代わるd all the others, and life would be easier. If いっそう少なく 十分な of choices. Don't worry... as long as you let your 政府 公式の／役人s let Microsoft do what it likes, it won't be long before the 刺激（する）s to Microsoft's creativity are driven out of 商売／仕事, and then Microsoft can stop bothering with giving us choices. Miao.
決意／決議: This is the "pixels per インチ" 所有物／資産／財産 of an image, also called "dots per インチ", or dpi. It is only meaningless if you have defined the size of the image you are looking at. The same image, printed once at 8" x 12" and a second time at 4" x 6" will "have" different 決意／決議s... the big one's 決意／決議... pixels per インチ... will be lower. 公式文書，認める that if you were to re-do the image so that it, at a given physical size, went from 100 dpi to 200 dpi, you wouldn't 二塁打 the 量 of レコード space needed to 蓄える／店 it... you would quadruple the 貯蔵 space need.
Image size: This can mean several things. It may 言及する to the physical size of the image on the page or 審査する, i.e. something like 8" x 10", or it may 言及する to how much space is needed on a disk to 蓄える／店 the image, or it may 言及する to the dimensions of the image in pixels. "Image size" in that sense and 決意／決議 interact the way 速度(を上げる）, time and distance-travelled interact.
Color depth: Some images have only 黒人／ボイコット, shades of gray, and white in them. They have a very low color depth, although even here you are speaking of color depth when you start talking about how many shades of gray are 現在の. A fancier image may have some colors, but not a large number of different colors. If your image has more different colors, and shades/ 色合いs of colors, then it has a greater "color depth".
By now, you are probably wondering "Why is he talking about image 所有物／資産／財産s?"
The 推論する／理由 is that you need to master them to make the 権利 choices, and to 準備する your images 適切に for 傾向 in your database. Err one way, and the 質 of the images will be 不十分な. Err the other, and the images will （問題を）取り上げる so much space in the database, and hence on your disk, that the database runs slowly.
If you 再開する the form we made for 見解（をとる）ing the birds database, ungroup the image 支配（する）／統制する if necessary, and look at its 所有物／資産／財産s, you'll see one called "規模". Before I say what that will do, one thing that it won't: It won't 原因（となる） the size of the image 反対する on your form to change, 関わりなく how you 始める，決める it.
If this is 始める，決める to "Yes", then any image that you 見解（をとる） with the form will be stretched shrunk as necessary to make it 正確に／まさに fill the image 反対する on the form. As long as all of your images have the same 面 割合 as each other and as the image 反対する, all will be 井戸／弁護士席. (面 割合: The answer you get if you divide the 高さ of the image by its width.) Even if all of your images have the same 面 割合, you may still 悔いる having "規模" 始める，決める to "Yes" because it will hide problems. If your images are bigger than they need be to fill the box on the form, you are wasting レコード space. If they are smaller, you are not getting a "better" picture just because you've blown it up. In extreme 事例／患者s, you'll see pixellation... the little squares, one per 大きくするd pixel.
事前の to ooBase 3.1, if your images did not all have the same 面 割合 as the image 反対する on the form, then if "規模" was 始める，決める to "Yes", the images were 陳列する，発揮するd with distortion. (The absence of this feature is a 欠陥 in some slide show/ screensaver 使用／適用s) A panorama will fit in a square... as long as you don't mind it 存在 "squished" in its 水平の dimension. Happily, from ooBase 3.1 this is no longer a problem. With 3.1, we were given an 付加 choice: "Keep 割合", which is what you will usually want.
So! What are the disadvantages of setting "規模" to "No"?
You may prefer distortion to not 存在 able to see all of an image, which is what will happen if the image is too big for the image 反対する. If all of your pictures have 類似の 面 割合s, even if they are not all 正確に／まさに the same, you may never notice the distortion. Setting "規模" to "Yes" also produces a "tidy" result with いっそう少なく 成果／努力.
井戸／弁護士席. There you have it. We've....

Once you have 昇格d to at least ooBase 3.1... and I would encourage you to do so.... and (only perhaps necessary... but a good idea anyway) 昇格d to the 現在の 見解／翻訳／版 of the Oracle 報告（する）／憶測 建設業者 (Once called the Sun 報告（する）／憶測 建設業者, and usually referred to as "the SRB". I was using 見解／翻訳／版 1.1 in my 実験（する）s)....
You can 生成する 報告（する）／憶測s with images in them. There's an example in the デモ database that you can download. (That's just another link to the same one you were 招待するd to download at the start of this.)
Another 推論する／理由 to do the 昇格 to ooBase 3.1 is that it seems to 許す you to 蓄える／店 大型のs in .odb とじ込み／提出するs. A Good Thing. 信用 me!
I dislike 'fancy' websites with more 関心 for a flashy 外見 than for good content. For a pretty picture, I can go to an art gallery. Of course, an attractive 場所／位置 WITH content deserves 賞賛する... as long as that pretty 直面する doesn't cost download time. In any 事例／患者....
