You may find that the database 存在 shipped with OpenOffice (ver.2 and higher) delights you as much as it has me. This page tries to help you use it.
Forget anything you may have heard about Adabas, which （機の）カム with 星／主役にする Office, the 商業の 見解／翻訳／版 of Open Office 1. The 現在の Open Office's database, "Base", aka "ooBase", is 関係のない. This page is "browser friendly". Make your browser window as wide as you want it. The text will flow nicely for you. It is easier to read in a 狭くする window. In a nutshell: When I went from a 2.2.1 取り付け・設備 to 見解／翻訳／版 3.0.0, the 昇格 went without hassle. (And from 3.0 to 3.1.0. And 3.1.0 to 3.2.0) I didn't uninstall my old Open Office first, but during the 任命する／導入する of the new 見解／翻訳／版, old program とじ込み／提出するs, etc... but not data... were （疑いを）晴らすd away for me. 示すs out of ten? Ten!
The machine I had this happy experience on runs Windows XP, SP3. I did the 2.x to 3.0 昇格 28 November 2008, and the 3.0 to 3.1 いつか before 7/09. I've now done 昇格s many times. The 最新の was on 12 Oct 10, on a Windows XP system, from 3.1.0 to 3.2.0, UK English. I used the "基準" download, 完全にする with JRE.
A few 詳細（に述べる）s from the October 2010 昇格: My "Start Menu" 保持するd the old "Open Office 3.1" folder, but it was empty. A new folder, "Open Office 3.2" was created with the shortcuts I would need. An old shortcut which I would not have 推定する／予想するd to work DID... and yes, it really did... in other words it opened the old app in the new Open Office. It Just Worked. I didn't even have to re-boot Windows! After I had the new 見解／翻訳／版 up and running, I went to "道具s"/ "拡張 経営者／支配人" and did "Check for Updates". (My Oracle (以前 known as "Sun") 報告（する）／憶測 建設業者 was out of date... かもしれない nothing to do with my 昇格 of the underlying Open Office. I 昇格d to 見解／翻訳／版 1.2.1. (A quick 実験（する） with an old database turned up an 利益／興味ing anomaly.... in one (not every) instance, dates in a 報告（する）／憶測 were 表明するd as if I were in イスラエル! Ah, the "joys" of computers. Bah. But it mostly worked.)
There ARE a FEW gotchas, though, which may catch some people. Explained later.
First, I 支援するd up any とじ込み／提出するs that I didn't want to lose, if things went wrong. Also, I would not have 乗る，着手するd on this 昇格 if, say, I was also using the computer to 準備する 税金 returns in the same week. While I was 確信して that the 昇格 would go 井戸／弁護士席 because of earlier experiences with Open Office, any time you make changes to a computer, you can come out of the 試みる／企てる with a dead machine. One that won't do the new things yet, but will not do what it did before anymore, either.
支援 up my important とじ込み／提出するs entailed creating copies someplace other than on the hard 運動 I was going to 影響する／感情 while updating my Open Office 控訴.
These 詳細（に述べる）s come from an instance of upgradine from before my 3.1 to 3.2 昇格, but that 昇格 (Oct 2010) went rather like what follows.
I started by making sure my system was online, with a broadband 関係. (The download was 142MB) CDs are 利用できる!

Before I go その上の, let me 安心させる you that the path we are taking does 除去する your old OpenOffice... which is what I recommend.
I clicked on the menu's "Help" item, and from the sub menu clicked on "Check for updates". (I did not use "道具s | Update"... that is for updating a 文書 within ooWriter, to bring it in line with things it is linked to in 外部の とじ込み／提出するs.... I think.)
ooWriter did a check, and （機の）カム 支援する with "New update 利用できる, click 承認する to open the download website."
Around about this part of the 過程, you may wonder if Open Office had noticed that you already have an older 見解／翻訳／版 任命する／導入するd. Everything you see, for a long time, looks like things look when you are 任命する／導入するing your first 見解／翻訳／版 of Open Office. 恐れる not, all will be 井戸／弁護士席.

Clicked "Download 3.0.0- English (US) 版". This was the best stable 見解／翻訳／版 利用できる at the time. If you want UK English, 恐れる not. The download is 貧しく labeled. It 含むs the UK English dictionary. And Spanish. And French. AND A JAVA UPDATE!) (In October, 2010, when I went for an 昇格, I was 申し込む／申し出d a "GB" (British) 見解／翻訳／版... which is what I 手配中の，お尋ね者. (And that （機の）カム with a US dictionary 同様に as the British dictionary. Within a 文書, you can 始める，決める individual paragraphs to use either. You can also switch the whole 文書 to whatever spellcheck dictionary you want used.)
(I was using Firefox for this.. which may be 関連した to....)
A "You have chosen to download..." window （機の）カム up, with "Open with.." AND "承認する" grayed out. However, when I clicked on "承認する" anyway, it changed from grayed out to working, and a second click on the now-enabled "承認する", started the download. I've been seeing this 公正に／かなり 定期的に; it is not unique to OpenOffice downloads.
When the download had finished, I の近くにd everything.
Used Windows (not Internet) Explorer (WindowsKey-E) to 接近 my downloads folder, dbl-clicked on the とじ込み／提出する I'd downloaded.
Clicked lots of "Nexts", but did deviate from the defaults to do a "custom" 任命する／導入する...
When the 任命する／導入する was 完全にする, I did have to clean up some old self-created shortcuts to old 見解／翻訳／版. (所有物／資産／財産s will help you see which are obsolete)
There were some nicely 指名するd 捨てるs of my OO 2.x 取り付け・設備 left in C:\Program とじ込み／提出するs.. but most of that structure had been emptied. The new stuff was in C:\Program とじ込み／提出するs\OpenOffice.org 3. The 捨てるs were 極小の, so I left them in place in 事例／患者 they were important.
There was an OO ver 3 shortcut on my desktop, which I 二塁打-clicked, even before rebooting the system. This led to a normal and 穏健な 始める，決める up sequence... 設立するing some basic settings. I was 招待するd to 登録（する）, and I said "okay", Nothing （機の）カム of it, at first, but then I spotted the message from my firewall (underneath things) asking if it was okay. I said yes, and 登録（する）ing was 平易な. I just gave the website my Sun account 使用者 指名する and password, and I got a message 説 words to the 影響 of "Done, thanks".
As I said, the "US English 見解／翻訳／版" OO ver.3 update INCLUDED the UK English, the Spanish and the French dictionaries.
If you want to get rid of any of them, use "道具s | 拡張 経営者／支配人".
First Gotcha: First something that I hope is obvious: If you have two machines, one on 3.x and the other still on 2.x, and you develop something under 3.x, don't 推定する／予想する to be able to open the .odb とじ込み／提出する you creates with 3.x on the 2.x machine. (The changes in the database from 2.x to 3.x were 公正に／かなり 広範囲にわたる. I've opened, say, old Writer 文書s with newer 見解／翻訳／版s of Open Office many times. And I've opened databases with ooBase 3.2 even when they were created a while 支援する, probably with ooBase 3.0)
Second Gotcha: a little いっそう少なく obvious:
Rmember that you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs... or getting obnoxious program bloat, as 論証するd by a 確かな large 会社／団体 which thinks more is always better.
With 3.0 and 3.1, the database module of Open Office, already very usable, became even better. Sundry little niggles (all 権利.. bugs and shortcomings!) were tidied up.
Before 3.0, you couldn't 蓄える／店 大型のs inside your .odb とじ込み／提出する, except, 簡潔に, within a form... but that 大型の wasn't then 利用できる to other forms in the database. During 3.0, you couldn't even do that. Because we were moving to the 勇敢に立ち向かう New FIXED World of 3.1, and now you can save 大型のs within the .odb とじ込み／提出する, 適切に.
If you had 大型のs saved in your PC, as part of your OO 取り付け・設備 I would guess they still work. If you had them in forms, those 大型のs will have to be re-written.
Anyway, not everthing above will 適用する to every ooBase database, because the things I've について言及するd are so arcane.

Third Gotcha: There have been a few 報告（する）／憶測s of ooBase 存在 slower after an 昇格 to 3.1. I 港／避難所't heard of a 事例／患者 that wasn't 解決するd by getting the computer's JRE up to date.
In the summer of 2011, I had, on one XP SP3 machine a solid OO3.0.0 取り付け・設備. I went to update that, and the usual "Help | Check For Updates" returned- several times- "Checking for Update Failed". No big 取引，協定. I just went to http://download.openoffice.org/ and fetched the then 現在の (3.3.0) 見解／翻訳／版 from there, 二塁打-clicked on the 151 MB I'd downloaded, and clicked "Next, next, next..." I had to shut some other programs I 手配中の，お尋ね者 to work with during the 任命する／導入する, but other than that, it went reasonably. Old shortcuts, in a 非，不，無-基準 場所, still worked, which I 高く評価する／（相場などが）上がるd.
I dislike 'fancy' websites with more 関心 for a flashy 外見 than for good content. For a pretty picture, I can go to an art gallery. Of course, an attractive 場所／位置 WITH content deserves 賞賛する... as long as that pretty 直面する doesn't cost download time. In any 事例／患者....
