You may find that the database 存在 shipped with OpenOffice (ver.2 and higher) delights you as much as it has me. This page tries to help you use it.

Forget anything you may have heard about Adabas, which （機の）カム with 星／主役にする Office, the 商業の 見解／翻訳／版 of Open Office 1. The 現在の Open Office's database, "Base", aka "ooBase", is 関係のない. And remember that Open Office, 含むing ooBase, is 解放する／自由な! But don't let that fool you. And it's not new. Big organizations, 政府 and 非軍事の, are 可決する・採択するing it as their 基準 office 控訴... and saving million$, but still Getting The 職業 Done.

This page is "browser friendly". Make your browser window as wide as you want it. The text will flow nicely for you. It is easier to read in a 狭くする window. With most browsers, 圧力（をかける）ing 加える, minus or 無 while the 支配（する）／統制する 重要な (ctrl) is held 負かす／撃墜する will change the texts size. (大きくする, 減ずる, 回復する to default, それぞれ.) 株ing an OpenOffice Database

First, a word about what I mean by "株" and "database"...

Suppose you've made a database with the 特徴 of some birds, and you want to give a copy to a friend. (For instance, the database might 示す the sizes and colors of different 種類, and if you had a "コマドリ sized" bird, with some blue and some green, the database could help you learn the 種類 by telling you which birds you should consider.)

That's the sort of "株ing" I'm talking about for now. I hope one day to 延長する this "How To", and tell you about letting 多重の computers on a LAN look things up in the database... but that's a story for another time.

By now, you may have inferred what I mean by "database" here, but let's just be sure we're "on the same page"...

"Database" is いつかs, as I am doing here, used to mean a collection of one or more （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs 十分な of data, forms, queries and 報告（する）／憶測s which together make it 平易な to manage some data. The 称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 is also used for the programs used for managing databases. In that sense, Open Office is a database, as are 接近, MySQL, Paradox, dBase and other 製品s.

So... How To Do It...

Happily, Open Office "bundles" all the "stuff" for a given database into a 選び出す／独身 とじ込み／提出する, 拡張 .odb. You may have sundry text とじ込み／提出するs, or other, which 含む／封じ込める your 公式文書，認めるs on things like the data coding, and if you use a folder for each 事業／計画（する）, it is 平易な to keep these together with the database they 適用する do... but they aren't needed for the database to open. You just copy the .odb, pass that to your friend or （弁護士の）依頼人, and tell them to "登録（する）" it in their Open Office 取り付け・設備. (They will need Open Office 任命する／導入するd on their PC.) There is no "run time" 見解／翻訳／版 of ooBase. Someone wants to 接近 an .odb とじ込み／提出する on a different computer, they must 任命する／導入する all of ooBase and the Java RTE on that computer, and then copy the 関連した .odb とじ込み／提出する to it.

There is no way to "lock" your databases so that people can use them but not see and manipulate the underlying forms. (Having said that, there are ways to 始める，決める up forms that a casual 使用者 can't change... but those "locks" are not 安全な・保証する, they are just there to 妨げる inadvertent changes.)

You may want to look into the Switchboard 拡張 if you want to make the database 使用者 friendly.
