This page is an 試みる/企てる to take a beginner on a whirlwind 小旅行する of some basics of using the database in LibreOffice or the very 類似の one in Open Office.
For many years, page 配達するd an introductory lesson at the start of tutorials by me relating to Open Office's "Base", which I usually 言及する to as "ooBase". Spring 2020: I am "making the switch", migrating to LibreOffice's Base. This essay has been editied to 反映する that.
It was written in September 2014, with Open Office 見解/翻訳/版 4.1.1, running under the Windows XP operating system.
The May 2020 review was done using LibreOffice Base on a Windows 10 machine.

Start up the Libre Office database. That should give rise to...
... which is a general 入ること/参加(者) point, 許すing you, as you want to now, to create a new database... or to open a 以前 created one for more work.
So... leave "Create New" selected, click "Next".
Tell Base to 登録(する) it, and open for editing. Click Finish.
You'll get a normal "Save As" dialog. For even a 比較して コンビナート/複合体 Base database, you get a 選び出す/独身 とじ込み/提出する. But probably best to create a folder called "Databases" (or somesuch), and within that a folder for everything associated with THIS database. I'm calling 地雷 FDB2014908. ("FreeDataBase yyyymdd"), and putting it in a folder of the same 指名する. (指名する from 2014, September, 8th.. day this was first 草案d.)
You should now be looking at the Libre Office Base 事業/計画(する) 管理/経営 window. (The link will take you to help with that.)...
... What you select in the left pane 影響する/感情s what you see in the 残り/休憩(する) of the 事業/計画(する) 管理/経営 window. Having "(米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs" selected, as in the illustration, is what you need just now.
いつかs using "Create in Design 見解(をとる)" is best; other times use the wizards . For creating (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs, I recommend the former,
I invoked "Design 見解(をとる)" and did some filling in, leaving me with....
A few comments....
You can just download the database... but where's the fun in that? More importantly: Where's the learning?
(The download gives you a 選び出す/独身 とじ込み/提出する. Save it on your PC. Once you have Libre Office 任命する/導入するd on your PC, 二塁打-clicking my とじ込み/提出する will 解雇する/砲火/射撃 up the RDBMS called "Base", part of Libre Office, and show you the (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs, etc, of my "NameState" database, discussed in this tutorial. In the 見解/翻訳/版 you can download, I've 追加するd some more 記録,記録的な/記録するs, AND a data 入ること/参加(者) FORM.
Each line in the (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する at the 最高の,を越す is a FIELD in the TABLE. (Both important 概念s. See other pages in my 場所/位置 to become solid on how database ソフトウェア uses those 条件.)
The パネル盤 at the 底(に届く) lets you alter the 所有物/資産/財産s of the fields. Change the selected field to change what is shown in the 底(に届く) パネル盤.
Except for the first field, I just used default values for the different field's 所有物/資産/財産s. When you know more, you will need to do more than that, but it will do for this quick 小旅行する.
However, for the first field, which I 指名するd "RecID" (for "RECord IDentifier"), I....
To 始める,決める a field as 最初の/主要な 重要な: 権利-click in the first column of the design grid, select "最初の/主要な 重要な" from the menu. The green arrow/重要な icon in that first column in the illustration above tells you I've made RecID the 最初の/主要な 重要な for this (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する.
1) Every (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する must have one.
2) Every RECORD must have a different value in the 最初の/主要な 重要な field.
3) It is good if you can make the 最初の/主要な 重要な mean something. A mere "serial number", as used in this (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, is inefficient. But will do for now. The nice thing about an integer type 最初の/主要な 重要な is that you can leave 割り当てるing the value to the computer.
Do not, by the way, assume that the number in the 最初の/主要な 重要な in our (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する will be of much use to US. It is "for the computer". Don't imagine that the numbers will be 完全に "論理(学)の". But you will find, for what it is 価値(がある), that no two 記録,記録的な/記録するs have the same value in the RecID field. (If you try to create that 状況/情勢, you will find that you cannot leave the 記録,記録的な/記録する until you have changed the number to some number not already in use.
My just-結論するd "discussion" of 最初の/主要な 重要なs is an example of something. In this essay, I am going to skip many, many 詳細(に述べる)s about many things. I am not going to tell you about all your choices, all the プロの/賛成のs and 反対/詐欺s. I AM going to get you a small working database, and do a few things with it.
When you have filled in the (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する Design grid as in the illustration, save your (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する. Call it NameState because it is a (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する with 指名するs and 明言する/公表するs in it. ("明言する/公表する" as in "California", "Mississippi", "Vermont", etc.... this is an incomplete 接触するs 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) database we are building.)
You can then の近くに the window in which you have been designing the (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, and go 支援する to the main 事業/計画(する) 管理/経営 window.
There... if you have "(米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs" selected in the left pane... you should see and 入ること/参加(者) for NameState. 二塁打-click that. Fill in the (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, as follows. (Don't worry about the RecMod field yet. And let the computer fill in the RecID column. It won't 事柄 if your numbers are different from 地雷.)
Be sure to "leave" the last 記録,記録的な/記録する's line when you've entered the data for it. Until you leave the line, the data is not "in" the database.
In the previous we HAVE left all three of the lines with 記録,記録的な/記録するs. In the に引き続いて we have NOT left the 4th line; we 港/避難所't yet (現実に) entered the 記録,記録的な/記録する for Sarah.
The "pencil" in the left 手渡す column, and the fact that we 港/避難所't yet received a number in the RecID column tell me that this 記録,記録的な/記録する is still only 未解決の.
If you are in the last column, and the insertion point is to the 権利 of the "VT", then just 圧力(をかける)ing enter, will tell the database to make the 記録,記録的な/記録する part of the "NameState" (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する. The insertion point will be in the 権利 place to start entering a new 記録,記録的な/記録する.
You can also "leave" a 記録,記録的な/記録する with the "arrow 重要なs", or by using the mouse and clicking someplace outside the 記録,記録的な/記録する.
... so good! We have a (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する with some data in it.
In doing work under Libre Office's database 一括, "Base", there are two sorts of saving: You need, when changes have been made, to save the design of (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs, forms, queries, 報告(する)/憶測s.
You should also, from time to time, also save "the whole thing". That will 含む the saving of your data, which isn't saved when you "単に" save a design. To save the whole thing, use the save that is part of the main 事業/計画(する) 管理/経営 window.
Don't worry... if you try to 出口 without doing one or the other of the necessary "saves", you will be 誘発するd to do them.
Onward.
In the real world, with small databases, people often work with their (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs 直接/まっすぐに. Not a Good Idea.... you せねばならない create a FORM, and work with your data from there.
But for now, I want to 圧力(をかける) on to 報告(する)/憶測s.
Click on the "報告(する)/憶測s" 選択 in the left 手渡す パネル盤 of the main 事業/計画(する) 管理/経営 window, and then invoke "Use Wizard To Create 報告(する)/憶測". That should throw up....
Click the 二塁打- 権利- 直面するing- arrows button to get....
... and click "Next".
Don't make any changes to the 所有物/資産/財産s shown for Labeling, 配合, Sorting or Layout... just click "Next", except, in Layout, change the layout of the 報告(する)/憶測 you are designing to make it use "Portrait" orientation.
In the final step of the 報告(する)/憶測 wizard, you will usually want to give the 報告(する)/憶測 a better 指名する than that which the wizard comes up with... but for this one, "NameState" is nearly good enough. It would be best to prefix that with "R-", to 妨げる any chance of 混乱させるing the NameState 報告(する)/憶測 with the NameState (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する. (So make that little edit, and then...)
You want a dynamic 報告(する)/憶測, and at this 行う/開催する/段階, let the wizard go ahead and "create 報告(する)/憶測 now", by clicking "Finish".
And you should see a simple little 報告(する)/憶測 of the data in our database....
Where do you go from here? You've made a (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, the basis of all database work, and you've created a 報告(する)/憶測 to "spit out" your data.
You might want to re-arrange things on the 報告(する)/憶測.
の近くに the 報告(する)/憶測 you 生成するd a moment ago, if it is still on the 審査する.
In the main 事業/計画(する) 管理/経営 window, be sure the "報告(する)/憶測s" icon is selected, left 手渡す パネル盤, then 権利-click on "R-NameState", invoke "edit". You should get....
.. 井戸/弁護士席. Nearly that. You need to, as I did, click on the =RecID field to get the 8 green squares at the corners and middles of the field's box.
Use these to re-size the box. Make it more 狭くする, left- to- 権利.
Working with 報告(する)/憶測 layouts may be 失望させるing at first... but you will get the hang of it before long. It is just tedious, at best, and very tedious until you discover some of the short-削減(する)s. Try to 達成する the に引き続いて. Be careful not to move anything out of whatever section it began in. To 達成する the new layout, you don't need to use the "General" and "Data" tabs at the 権利 of the 報告(する)/憶測 diagram... you just use selecting and corner dragging and 反対する dragging. Save your work often! Remember that Ctrl-Z will often undo whatever your last edit was. And Ctrl-Z again, すぐに, may undo the one before, etc.
I 始める,決める up the "RecMod" field as a place to enter a "code" to say when the RECord was most recently MODified.
Any decent database can "do" dates... but they are often the source of 頭痛s. I do almost all my dates as simple strings in the form yyyymdd.

That's almost self explanatory, I hope. But 公式文書,認める that the month is done with a 選び出す/独身 character. 1-9 for January to September, a, b, or c for October, November, December. It 作品. It has advantages. 信用 me! (And yes, OO will, by default, put 13a... after 139...)

Really- this system does work 井戸/弁護士席 in practice. One of the prime 利益s is that although the date 入ること/参加(者)s are "just text", if you sort on that column, the 記録,記録的な/記録するs will be sorted into chronological order.
I've 追加するd a few more 記録,記録的な/記録するs, and given everyone RecMod data to bring the data along to....
That (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する 主張するs that most of the data was entered on August 25, 2014 (2014825), but the 記録,記録的な/記録するs for Sarah and Henry were 追加するd, or changed, a few days later, in 早期に September.
That's it, for this quick start tutorial. It certainly begs many questions... questions I hope you will find answers to if you work through the other tutorials I have put up on my 場所/位置. If you are a beginner, go thought the "Level 0" and "Level One" tutorials.
But I've felt for a while that something 急速な/放蕩な paced like this might have a place in helping people get started?
(Yes, of course, there are ways to arrange for the 記録,記録的な/記録するs in the 報告(する)/憶測 (and on the 審査する at other times) to be sorted into whatever order you need. Or, say, to select just the 記録,記録的な/記録するs for people living in California. Etc, etc, ETC.... but those are stories for another day...)
Unless you are very new to Libre Office Base and databases in general, I think you could easily 吸収する what is in fdb3repsortsub.htm my tutorial about producing a 報告(する)/憶測 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる)ing a subset of your 記録,記録的な/記録するs. (You'd have to put some more data in the simple database we created in the course of the 現在の tutorial.) And the 記録,記録的な/記録するs in the 報告(する)/憶測 are sorted. You could, for instance, do a 報告(する)/憶測 of the people you know in MA, sorted by 指名する. The tutorial I am 示唆するing you try uses a QUERY (something you should get to 支配するs with before long) to 抽出する the 要求するd 記録,記録的な/記録するs. The 報告(する)/憶測 is based on the result ("生産(高)") of the query, rather than 存在 based 直接/まっすぐに on the NameState (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する, which is the simple answer we used in the tutorial you are reading.
