This work, which appeared in "Waugh's Australian Almanac" for 1860, was 用意が出来ている by Leichhardt's good friend, Rev. W.B. Clarke in 1859 from Leichhardt's actual 定期刊行物. Clarke's introduction 供給するs 状況.

The first 始める，決める of asterisks, for Leichhardt's 入ること／参加（者） of 20th August, most probably 言及する to Emmeline Macarthur. At the end of Leichhardt's 入ること／参加（者） of 24th August, 初期のs M., H. and T. 言及する almost certainly to John Mann, Hovenden Hely and Henry Turnbull, 関係者s in his abortive second 探検隊／遠征隊, which only reached the 頂点（に達する） 範囲.

追加するd as an 虫垂 are two articles published in The Sydney Morning 先触れ（する） either 味方する of the third 探検隊／遠征隊. These articles are 利用できる on the 国家の Library of Australia's "Trove" website. The first is from Ludwig Leichhardt to his friend Lt. Robert Lynd, telling of the events of the second 探検隊／遠征隊.

The second item is a 要約 of the 定期刊行物 by Leichhardt for the Sydney Morning 先触れ（する）. It was published just after he returned Sydney and いっそう少なく than two months before he 出発／死d on his fateful final 旅行. In this article there are a few small differences between the （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する here and the one which Rev. Clarke 供給（する）d to Daniel Bunce for Bunce's 調書をとる／予約する covering Leichhardt's second 探検隊／遠征隊, "Australasiatic Reminiscences".

A second 地図／計画する of the Balonne 地域, which Leichhardt made at Cecil Plains 駅／配置する at the time of the first letter, is also 追加するd at the end. This 地図／計画する was given to Henry Russell, owner of Cecil Plains, as 詳細（に述べる）d in his "Genesis of Queensland", 利用できる on 事業／計画（する） Gutenberg Australia.

In the year 1847, after his return from the 不成功の 探検隊／遠征隊 of the previous year to 頂点（に達する） 範囲, Leichhardt made a short 旅行 to the 西方の of Darling 負かす／撃墜するs, for the 目的 of connecting his own lines of previous 探検 with the country along the Maranoa, 横断するd by the late Sir T. L. Mitchell, during his 探検隊／遠征隊 to the 長，率いる of the Victoria River, in the 1846, and subsequently by Mr. Kennedy.

In the letters I 演説（する）／住所d to the Sydney Morning 先触れ（する）, in August 1858, and in the paper read before the 王室の Geographical Society of London, in the same year, on the "砂漠" in 関係 with the 探検隊／遠征隊s in search for Leichhardt, I 引用するd 確かな passages from the に引き続いて diary, which is the only 記録，記録的な／記録する of the 探検隊／遠征隊 of 1847.

It appears, therefore, advisable, that the diary itself, which has never before been published, should now see the light; for it not only 完全にするs the history of Leichhardt's 探検隊／遠征隊s up to the 致命的な one of 1848, but furnishes to the enquirer the 当局 upon which I 残り／休憩（する）d some of the 結論s 尊敬（する）・点ing 確かな 事柄s 伴う／関わるd in my discussion of Leichhardt's 運命／宿命.

The account of the 探検隊／遠征隊 now published, begins at Mr. Gogg's 駅／配置する on the 負かす／撃墜するs, and 終結させるs, in fact, on the Maranoa; but the return 大勝する 存在 different from the 西方の 大勝する, the に引き続いて pages give, in fact, the 詳細（に述べる）s of two 探検s.

The chart appended is a 減ずるd copy of the 初めの M.S. chart given to me by Leichhardt on his return. 規模 one-ninth.

The country 述べるd is now, I believe, 占領するd; but the diary gives the 条件 of it before 占領／職業, and is, so far, 利益／興味ing to geographers.

There are two striking correspondences, under date of 27th August, with notices in the "熱帯の Australia" of Mitchell, at page 152 and at page 379, which may 長所 発言／述べる. Both L. and M. について言及する—the one a river, the other a large creek, having "reedy waterholes"—国境d by Acacia pendula (M.) or long linear-leaved Acacia (L.) Both 述べる a 二塁打 支店 of this water. Mitchell's locality (26 deg. 42 min. 27 sec. S.[)] was not reached by Leichhardt (26 deg. 40 min. S.) till three days after he （機の）カム upon the features he 述べるs; we see, therefore, how remarkably the character of the rivers in Australia is 執拗な, and how nearly, by 正確な descriptions, their features may be 認めるd. Mitchell first called attention to this fact, and we have here an undesigned coincidence illustrative of it.

Again, Mitchell について言及するs on his return from the Victoria, that on the Balonne, one of the "元気づける" peculiarities of the scene was "the merry 公式文書，認めるs of 非常に／多数の birds," and we have Leichhardt, 明言する／公表するing—"I could not help 発言／述べるing how cheerfully the birds sing 近づく these creeks; the Oreoica (the ventriloquist), the Magpie, the little Flycatcher, and several others made themselves incessantly heard."

There is also a general 協定 between the two explorers 尊敬（する）・点ing the 気温 of that 地域. Mitchell gives in many instances a sunrise 気温 so low as 19 deg. F. and 20 deg. F., and Leichhardt, in September, について言及するs ice, and a 気温 of 24 deg. and 26 deg.

As 証拠ing, moreover, an 付加 proof of the general extent of atmospherical 影響（力）s over wide tracts in Australia, (of which I gave several examples in the 公式文書，認めるs on Kennedy's 探検隊／遠征隊, in the 定期刊行物 of the Geographical Society vol. xxii) it may be について言及するd that Leichhardt says he had ice on the Maranoa in 26 deg. 53 min. S. on the night of 31st August, 1847; and on turning to my own 定期刊行物 I find that at St. Leonard's, at 11 p.m., 31st August, and again at 8 a.m., 1st September, the 気温 was 47 deg., and on 31st August, at 7 a.m., 42 deg. I find also 霜 occurred here on 1st and 2nd September, and on the 3rd it was "冷淡な." Leichhardt について言及するs ice on the 1st, and says the "southerly" 勝利，勝つd was very chilly on the 3rd; the 勝利，勝つd here 存在 from S.E.; that night the 気温 here was as high as from 53 deg. to 56 deg., and on the Maranoa, the night was 極端に 穏やかな;" The 温度計 at sunrise 存在 54 deg. whilst here it was nearly the same. We learn also, that the 勝利，勝つd there was "easterly"; it was S.E. here, becoming 予定 east on the 5th September.

Again, on the night of the 9th September Leichhardt について言及するs that it was 穏やかな—and on the 10th he had rain, 雷鳴 and westerly 勝利，勝つd; at St. Leonard's the 勝利，勝つd was from N. and N.W., and on the 9th there were a hot 勝利，勝つd 雷 and the 外見 of a 激しい 嵐／襲撃する, with rain on the evening of the 9th and the 10th.

Lastly, the northerly 勝利，勝つd of the night of the 26th August and Leichhardt, was 類似の to the N.E. 勝利，勝つd which 開始するd here the same day and became north on the next; a 激しい 強風 blowing the while from the north along the east coast of Tasmania.

The only other 観察 I have to make on this diary is, that Leichhardt について言及するs the 存在 of some probably new animal, from traces of burrows of a peculiar 肉親，親類d, 観察するd on 26th August on the Horse-跡をつける River, and he makes その上の について言及する of it on the 7th of September as burrowing in "red 国／地域." Now Mitchell について言及するs (熱帯の Australia, p.150) that the "red" 分解するd 激しく揺する of the country on the Cogoon was "hollowed out by some burrowing animal, whose 跡をつけるs had opened ways through the 厚い 厄介な scrub," enabling him to lead his horses to the 最高の，を越す of 開始する Red Cap. As these traces of the supposed new animal 延長する over several miles of country, it may be of use, if some 植民／開拓者 there will endeavour to ascertain what this animal is, and whether it is really—new.

[JOURNAL.]

Monday, the 15th [sic] August, 1847.—We were 野営するd on Acacia Creek, where we arrived yesterday evening very late in coming from Gogg's, mistaking Gogg's 駅／配置する road for Windeyer's Dray-road. Windeyer has built a 橋（渡しをする） over the Dogwood Creek, which we did however not see. The waterholes had so 法外な banks that our mules and horses went very far in search of water. The boiling of our salt mear, with which Gogg had kindly 供給するd us, took also a long time. We did not start before 12 o'clock; travelled 2ｽ miles N.W. to Dogwood creek; went about ｽ mile up it to our crossing place; travelled 負かす／撃墜する 2ｽ miles S. and S.W. to the crossing place of my first 探検隊／遠征隊. The ground along the 山の尾根s, either very rotten of Cypresspine 山の尾根s, from the crossing place of my first 探検隊／遠征隊, 3 miles N.W. along a many winding creek, with many lagoons and water-gums. Wommai 発射 here three ducks. We passed the while-tree （軍の）野営地，陣営, crossed the creed, which is here lined with a small Tea-tree and has rocky 穴を開けるs. We travelled N.W. about 6ｽ-7 miles. Acadia underwood, the Tamarind myrtle, the glaucous 狭くする-leaved Ironbark were 勝つ／広く一帯に広がるing 木材／素質. We crossed two rocky watercourses, the last of which spread out higher up in 狭くする water Gum-tree flats. Here our dogs ran a native dog, but did not kill him. The country opened—several 山の尾根s and hills, one of which I descended to the southward; （機の）カム to a watercourse which went west, and 設立する very soon water—about 14 miles in 5ｾ hours.

Tuesday, the 17th August.—Yesterday, about five-six 種類 of Acacia were 設立する in blossom; the colour of all is yellow; one has a pinnate leaf the others phyllodia. One of the glaucous phyllodia 似ているs so much the pinnate one that I should not be surprised if they were only sexually different; the Acacia with 麻薬中毒の phyllodia, which I 設立する 以前は, was not met with, as I kept to the left of my former 跡をつけるs. To-day we 設立する a small shrubby Grevillea, with アイロンをかける-coloured blossoms, it grew principally in the rusty-gum forest. A small shrub spreading out in 一連の会議、交渉／完成する patches, belonging to the Lythrum tribe (10 stam. 1 pist.) was growing in 類似の localities. We followed the watercourse for a short distance—it turned to the S.W.; I kept W. and （機の）カム on another watercourse which I 平等に followed; it turned also S.W. and S. After 3 miles we （機の）カム to the large creek, which, no 疑問, is my 瓶／封じ込める-tree-scrub creek. It has 豊富 of water and its bed is sandy and sound; 平行の lagoons in the large grassy valley with 罰金 Water-gum-trees—the 木材／素質 was Ironbark, Gum, Cypresspine, Forest-oak—Bricklow scrub was seen to the 権利.—Three miles さらに先に through rusty-gum forest, we （機の）カム to a 罰金 rocky creek with plenty of water, but stiff grasses and grass-tree; 1ｽ miles その上の another watercourse, and すぐに afterwards another joining the former; the remaining 3 miles were 罰金 undulating or flat, Ironbark forest 井戸／弁護士席 grassed, very open. At the end of the 行う／開催する／段階, about 12 miles W.S.W. from our last night's （軍の）野営地，陣営, a 罰金 chain of ponds 十分な of water in a very open country, with Dombomgum 勝つ／広く一帯に広がるing; the flats with Apple-tree. A kangaroo was chased by Camden into a waterhole, and 発射 by Wommai. We saw long patches of forest-land burnt by the natives—kangaroo bones and broken emu eggs in an old （軍の）野営地，陣営—to-day and yesterday, 罰金 天候, but cloudy—the night （疑いを）晴らす, the latter part of it 冷淡な with 激しい dew.

Wednesday, the 18th August.—After having finished our Kangaroo tail soup, and a good sized piece of damper, we started 十分な of 予期s of what the day would bring. The country kept its open character for about 1ｽ miles, when we （機の）カム on a good sized creek, with water almost running, at least filtering through the sands and pebbles. Our course was S. 70 deg W. We continued for about 2ｽ to 3 miles longer, the forest became の近くに and when we turned a little to the 権利 ーするために 避ける it, I （機の）カム again on the creek we had left. We followed it up for about 2 miles. Hills and ledges of 激しく揺する enclosed it from both 味方するs. When we 上がるd the gully which formed its 長，率いる, we （機の）カム on a tableland with patches of the hook-leafed acacia and of Baekea. Another 種類 of Acacia, the long 支店s of which covered with yellow blossoms formed as many rays, made a pleasing impression on the 注目する，もくろむ; a 種類 of Hakea with red blossoms and the leaves of Ac. pungens but pinnatifid, was also tolerably abundant. Two miles その上の, during which the country fell に向かって S.E., I （機の）カム on another creek with sharp rocky ledges on which Boronia latifolia? grew. We now changed our course to S.W. and when this brought us to another rocky creek, we turned to the southward ーするために come to a いっそう少なく broken country. We had scarcely left this creek when Bricklow made its 外見 to the 権利 and left. Box with Vitex formed the forest between the 急ぐ of waters to the southward. We followed this and （機の）カム to 乾燥した，日照りの waterholes—the scrub continued and the box flat 広げるd, and when we turned 一連の会議、交渉／完成する the scrub to the S.W. we passed for 4 miles over most beautiful open box 山の尾根s. Myall grew on several 位置／汚点／見つけ出すs; the open country 延長するd to the S.E. as far as the 注目する，もくろむ could reach. At the end of the 行う／開催する／段階 we （機の）カム to a 罰金 creek with very large ponds of water, which no 疑問 are 永久の. Musselshells are everywhere; Myall is abundant; the sandflies are troublesome, first part of last night cloudy, latter part （疑いを）晴らす. 温度計 at sunrise 38 deg. Slight 空気／公表するs from N.W.

Thursday, the 19th August.—We travelled about 5 miles to the 西方の; for 2 miles the open 山の尾根s continued; but soon Vitex and Myall scrub filled the box forest and その上の on treeless plains surrounded with scrub, which reminded me of the scrub plains of the Dawson, enticed me on in the same course. Dense scrub and scrubby hills however stopped my 進歩, and I had to （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域 支援する に引き続いて the 輪郭（を描く） of the scrub. I went to the S.E. and even to the eastward, 押し進めるd through some Bricklow scrub and （機の）カム at last to a lower part of the creek which we had left and which ran S.E. & S. and turned at our 現在の （軍の）野営地，陣営 to the S.S.W. From the scrub plains we saw blackfellows' smoke to the southward. The country along the creek is open with Myall and Box, the waterholes are large, 深い and reedy, and it seems that this creek forms the 輪郭（を描く） of a scrubby country, and is the receptacle of its waters. Wommai 発射 a duck—we saw many kangaroos. It was cloudy in the afternoon; slight 勝利，勝つd from the southward. Sandflies made their 外見; swallows and orewills.

Friday, the 20th August.—My latitude is 26 deg. 39 min., 温度計 40 deg. Night dewy not too 冷淡な. Wommai had tethered the horse too 近づく the boggy waterhole, it went into the water and got bogged. After much trouble we 後継するd in getting it out. Breakfast, fat cake (3 lbs.) and one 黒人／ボイコット duck. I wished to follow the creek, which I hoped would turn to the S.W. I was however mistaken, it went to the S.E. Now I left it and passed some Myall groves and Box trees with Vitex underwood and entered the scrub in a 予定 west direction; this scrub was of the same composition as the Flourgill, patches of Casuarina, of Bricklow, either in shrubs or trees, rises of Cypresspine and 狭くする-leaved Ironbark. One of these rises was higher than the other and it seemed to me that it formed a watershed, the creeks E. of it going to the E. and S.E.; those to the West of it going to the Southward. After 9 miles westing and わずかに southing I （機の）カム on a watercourse going to the 西方の which I followed 負かす／撃墜する. It soon brought me to a larger creek, with as 罰金 ponds of water as those in the creek we had left. Here our dogs started an emu, with a 広大な／多数の／重要な number of young ones; the mother defended her brood against Camden, but ran away when Wommai （機の）カム with his horse. Chase was given; but it was 不成功の. I followed the large creek for about 4 miles. It is very open with Box 山の尾根s, which are perfectly sound, and Myall groves occasionally along its banks. On the patches of young grass, 非常に／多数の emus must have fed, for their dung was very abundant. When the creek turned to the southward (its course had been W. and even N.W.) we passed over the 山の尾根 and dropped into the valley of another creek, 平等に 供給するd with water. I dare say we （機の）カム out 13 miles W., 20 deg. S. Beautiful 天候; cumuli during the afternoon; I 苦しむd a 広大な／多数の／重要な 取引，協定 of palpitation of the heart (perhaps in consequence of strong tea and smoking); I dreamt of *  *  * and *  *  *  *  * she was as blooming and beautiful as ever, and showed (as I dreamt at least) some solicitude about me.

Saturday, the 21st August.—We had scarcely travelled 1ｽ miles to the 西方の, when we （機の）カム to a small creek with the usual character, shallow beds and sedgy boggy water 穴を開けるs, with a good 供給（する） of bad water. Continuing to a Bricklow shrub which we skirted, and continued over 罰金 Box and silver-leaved アイロンをかける-bark hills for about 2ｽ miles, when a large creed was before us running N.—S.; the hills rose higher on its 権利 bank, and I thought of seeing plains gleaming through the forest—I was however mistaken; for after 2 miles of travelling we entered a most infernal scrub, through which we worked for about 4 miles, when we （機の）カム to an 開始 and a watercourse, which we followed 負かす／撃墜する for about 8 miles; it soon took the character of the other creeks, and its 穴を開けるs were excellently 供給（する）d with water; the natives seemed 特に fond of it, for their humpies were almost on eery waterhole, and they had 燃やすd the old grass, probably to have a chance at the 非常に／多数の kangaroos, one of which we saw slowly jumping from one of the waterholes into the scrub. The ducks were very 非常に／多数の. Wommai 発射 one, and Mr. Bunce two. Our tether horse, which had been bogged two days ago, was almost knocked up; the night was rather 穏やかな; the boggy nature of the waterholes has the 広大な／多数の／重要な inconvenience, that our mules and horses are too afraid to approach, and go, その結果, without their fair allowance of water.

Sunday, the 22nd August.—We had a duck breakfast, and started 早期に ーするために follow the creek さらに先に 負かす／撃墜する; for the scrub 妨げるd us taking a more advantageous course, the creek running S.S.E. and perhaps S.E. Lower 負かす／撃墜する the Box-flats became puffy; and still lower the Cypresspine and the White-gum appeared on the rising ground; the waterholes got partly (特に on the 権利 味方する) rocky; rotten sandstone. After about 7 miles collateral lagoons formed; low Box-flats, all inundated during high water, 延長するd along the creek; the rising ground was very rotten; the scrub seemed to recede, and we left the creek, steering for the smoke of the natives. As we went along to the S.W. and 西方の, skirting the scrub, smoke rose all along to the S.W., W. and N.W., and I 推定する／予想するd a large creek before us. That was the 事例／患者—after 3 miles travelling we （機の）カム to the 深い channel of a good-sized creek, larger than Dogwood Creek, with flood-示すs above the banks. A large 団体／死体 of water must come 負かす／撃墜する occasionally; the bed is sandy and sound; the water was still running; the character of the country is very much that of Dogwood Creek; Cypresspine and White-gum on a rotten 国／地域; the natives appear very 非常に／多数の. Mr Bunce and Wommai remained behind duck 狙撃, and have not yet arrived—I hope no 事故 has happened. A 冷淡な southerly 勝利，勝つd was blowing the whole day; clouds passed in the morning, but disappeared about 9 o'clock. I 苦しむd again from palpitations, though I have not smoked these two last days. Mr Bunce has told me many very annoying stories about M. . . . , H . . . . , and T . . . . . . . , which trouble me a 広大な／多数の／重要な 取引，協定.

Wednesday, the 25th August.—The two absentees did not come up to the （軍の）野営地，陣営 on Sunday evening nor during the forenoon on Monday; I その結果 supposed that a serious 事故 had happened either to Mr Bunce or to Wommai, and 解決するd to return to the creek we had left, to ascertain in what direction they had gone. We 解雇する／砲火／射撃d again at sunset, but without receiving any answer, and I was in the greatest 苦悩 about their 運命／宿命. Next morning, however, just when we were looking out for our horses, they arrived. They had continued 負かす／撃墜する the creek without ascertaining the direction of our 跡をつけるs; they had come to the junction of our creek with a very large one; had 設立する three fresh horse-跡をつけるs, and supposing them our's had followed them until late at night; they had crossed the large creek, to which we had come on Sunday; next day they had still continued and had considered that the mule-跡をつけるs were wanting, but foolishly supposed that the natives had 急ぐd us. They now returned and （軍の）野営地，陣営d on Monday night again at the little creek where they had lost us. Next morning they had come on our returning 跡をつけるs and had followed them to the （軍の）野営地，陣営; they had seen a 広大な／多数の／重要な number of natives, and had spoken with some of them; they had seen the little gin with the white patch on the neck, who passed our （軍の）野営地，陣営 in going up to the Bunya Bunya. The most careless inattention to our 跡をつけるs had produced all this loss of time and all this 苦悩. We saddled our mules, after their finishing their breakfast, and went on their 跡をつけるs about 2 miles beyond Sunday Creek. The fresh 跡をつけるs belonged to three horses, two of which were shod; one horse had a very 幅の広い hoof—one of the party had walked. The natives, whose 解雇する／砲火／射撃s were 燃やすing all about, and whose cooees and tomahawks we had heard in Sunday （軍の）野営地，陣営, had followed those 跡をつけるs which we supposed to be Archer's and Chauvel's, 2 miles below the junction of Sunday Creek with the supposed Dogwood Creek, and struck off to the 西方の, the creek turning a little to the southward. The country was the same as that between Bunce's and Sunday Creeks,—Cypresspine forest, with the glaucous pinnate Acacia in 十分な blossom (a magnificent sight), the 国／地域 puffy; the Box flats 近づく the river small—支配する to inundations, with patches of 明らかにする 激しく揺する に向かって the banks. After having left the river, we continued 西方の until scrubs compelled us to go to the southward. We skirted the scrubs, and made about 7ｽ miles W. 15 deg. S. and （軍の）野営地，陣営d at a small scrubby creek, which, によれば Wommai, joined the river about two miles lower 負かす／撃墜する.

To-day, the 25th,—We skirted again the scrubs, and we 後継するd in finding tolerable country about 4 miles to the N.W. It was an open Myall scrub with dense Bricklow to our 権利. We passed over a 山の尾根 of open forest land (狭くする-leaved Ironbark and Cypresspine); about 1 mile その上の we saw the high hill to our left; the country, for the other 7 miles was, west—changingly open, undulating Box forest and scrub. One Dodonaea scrub 押し進めるd us again to the southward. We crossed the 長，率いるs of several water-courses and a 押し寄せる／沼地 about ｽ mile to the east of a river which reminds me still stronger of the Robinson than Sunday Creek. It has a sandy bed, with tea-trees growing in it; it is not running, but the small pools are covered with ironocre; the waterholes are partly 井戸／弁護士席 boggy. 正確に／まさに at our crossing-place we 設立する the 跡をつけるs of a party of horsemen, which appear different from those of Archer, as the big-hoofed horse is wanting. Wommai says, "they were four persons."

August 26th.—Yesterday morning the 温度計 was 24 deg., this morning, at sunrise, 38 deg. The first part of night cloudy—（疑いを）晴らすd up at 10 o'clock; we travelled about 14 miles 予定 west; after having left the river, in the bed of which 井戸／弁護士席-polished pieces of 化石 支持を得ようと努めるd and variously coloured flints were 設立する, we passed over 1-1ｽ mile of grassy country with Appletree 似ているing that at Charley's Creek. After we passed for 5 miles through a scrubby box country with Bricklow, Myall and Vitex; for 2 miles the country opened into a pleasing Moreton Bay ash forest, with a large tree Acacia and clusters of Vitex. Here we met first with the 深い burrow of an unknown animal—the open 軸 was about 5 feet 深い, and the burrow itself went from the 底（に届く） of it horizontally; it was about 1ｽ feet in 直径, the 跡をつける 似ているd that of a child, the dung that of an old man kangaroo. From this open country which seemed to 延長する to the southward, we entered into a Dodonaea scrub for several miles and （機の）カム out into a scrubby Cypresspine country with several 罰金 Box hollows 延長するing to the south by W., and joining probably a large creek from the northward with long reedy waterholes, with a sound bed, with 罰金 watergum and small narrowleaved tea trees. The 限定するs of the river are rather thickly wooded with Box saplings and Myall. The character of the country in general was scrubby, unfit for any pastoral 目的s; but it is probable that it opens and 改善するs along the river which I suppose to be to the southward. Our mule No.4 was bogged in the river of yesterday; horse 跡をつけるs were seen coming from the 西方の; they belonged to 5 horses—two of which appeared to be 主要な horses. Four native companions [brolgas] and 4 small cranes were seen yesterday evening; a flight of ducks passed our （軍の）野営地，陣営 during the night and went 負かす／撃墜する the river. We live again on our 乾燥した，日照りのd beef for breakfast.

August the 27th.—When we were sitting last night 近づく the 解雇する／砲火／射撃, we heard the disagreeable call of a nightbird, a loud shrill "pish-sh-sh". Wommai watched it, and 後継するd in 狙撃 it; it 証明するd to be the little フクロウ Cyclops delicatula or elegans of Gould. Behind a little shrub a bird (probably a goatsucker) had （軍の）野営地，陣営d for a long time, he had left a large heap of dung. The 温度計 was 38 deg. すぐに after sunrise; it is now at sunset 70 deg. We travelled about 20 miles west, 6 deg. south over the most 哀れな country. After 3ｽ hours we （機の）カム to the first large creek, with sandy bed, reedy waterholes: small-leafed Tea-tree and long linear-leafed Acacia the natives were 燃やすing the grass 近づく it. After 4ｽ hours from that creek we （機の）カム to another 平等に large, inclining to the S.E., its bed 平等に sandy, its waterholes reedy. 近づく these creeks the country was tolerably open, but scarcely one mile from each, a 汚い Dodonaea and Cypresspine scrub covered the whole 介入するing country. It seems that these scrubs cover 山の尾根s 平行の to the creeks, for we saw the high land we had left, in form of a 範囲 from the west 味方する of the first creek, and a large 範囲 was seen to the 西方の of the second creek on which we are 野営するd. Hakea lorea is still in blossom, Stenochilus grows abundantly in the 開始s of the Cypresspine scrub. The first part of last night was cloudy; it （疑いを）晴らすd up from the northward at 9 o'clock. In the afternoon to-day and yesterday, the clouds got very 激しい—we had 十分な moon yesterday.

I could not help 発言／述べるing how cheerfully the birds sing 近づく these creeks, the Oreoica, (the ventriloquist) the Magpie, the little Flycatcher, and several others make themselves incessantly heard.

August, the 28th.—The 温度計 32 deg. We travelled scarcely 2 miles, when we （機の）カム to 山の尾根s which were covered with Dodonaea and Vitex and Cypresspine scrub; they 延長するd 10 miles さらに先に and were covered at their western half with scrub of the mountain Acacia of the worst description. The dead 木材／素質 made the road 極端に circuitous and the 進歩 slow. The highest part was composed of さまざまな 利益／興味ing aromatic shrubs of a 種類 of Philotheca and of a red Metrosideros and two other rutaceous 工場／植物s. 存在 tired of an 明らかに never-中止するing succession of these Acacia 山の尾根s, we took a watercourse, running W. 30 deg. S., which we followed 負かす／撃墜する for 3 or 4 miles, when the waterholes became rocky, Watergum appeared 一連の会議、交渉／完成する them, and they 含む／封じ込めるd a 供給（する） of good water. We were 野営するd for a short time, and the fat cake not やめる ready, when two natives walked boldly up after having cooeed and received our cooee in return. I met them with Mr. Isaacs about fifty yards from the （軍の）野営地，陣営, ーするために ascertain something about the Balonne. I gave each of them three 厚かましさ／高級将校連 buttons, to show our friendly 意向s, and gave them to understand that we were to sleep one night and then continue to the 西方の. A third 青年 approached afterwards; one of the old men was わずかな／ほっそりした with a long 耐えるd and mustache, and very wild looking, the other was an 年輩の man, with a white 耐えるd, and of very 静かな 表現. We parted good friends, thought Mr. Bunce told me that he heard them talking 近づく our waterhole—they （機の）カム perhaps there to fetch water.

August the 29th.—温度計 34 deg. Sunday.

Tuesday, the 31st August.—We had a sound sleep, notwithstanding the want of water, which was not felt very much by any of the party. As soon as the mules （機の）カム in we started and followed the watercourse for about 7 miles S.W. by S., when Cypresspine, rocky waterholes, Watergum and patches of fresh burnt grass appeared and the call of Grallium Australe 示すd the presence of water. We made our breakfast and started, after two hours 停止（させる） for 2 miles 予定 west, when after crossing an open 山の尾根 of Moreton Bay ash and a slight hollow I 設立する myself on Mitchell's and Kennedy's 跡をつけるs; the dray-跡をつけるs of the first were almost 完全に worn out by the 後継するing rains; the three cart-跡をつけるs of Kennedy, with a 広大な／多数の／重要な number of horses, were, on the contrary, very fresh. I followed the 跡をつける to the northward and （機の）カム, after about 3 miles, to a （軍の）野営地，陣営 of Mitchell's, 示すd 80, on the river 味方する. The river has lower 負かす／撃墜する a 幅の広い sandy bed with lines of small trees, but is there without water; the large waterhole was surrounded with reeds. The country reminded me of Charly's Creek; the rises are frequently sandy with Cypresspine, Moreton Bay ash, Appletree, some few scattered silver-leaved Ironbark, and two 種類 of Acacia (one drooping like that of Blackfellow Creek) the cocoa-tree Eos was seen on the patches of fresh burnt grass; I followed the 跡をつける for 4 miles その上の; it left the river and passed open sandy Cypresspine 山の尾根s and through Vitex scrub. I （軍の）野営地，陣営d at a 罰金 waterhole in a good-sized creek, in latitude 26 deg. 53 min. The flats are Box forest, more or いっそう少なく open, as the young saplings form long stretches of underwood. We passed the bullock's 長，率いる.

September the 1st.—温度計 26 deg. Ice in the bucket, not on the waterhole. Turned again to Mitchell's 跡をつける which, after having past several sandy Cypresspine 山の尾根s, on one of which I saw a 罰金 Sterculia tree and whole thickets of a shrubby Aster approached the river and followed it, in cutting its windings for about 9 miles, when we （機の）カム to another （軍の）野営地，陣営 of Kennedy's with one of the trees 示すd 79. We 推定する／予想するd 81 and the 少なくなるing number puzzled us not a little. At this place the river is joined by a creek from the left, running N.N.E.-S.S.W., and by another larger one from the 権利, running about N.W.-S.E. The course of the river for the whole extent of 12ｽ miles is N.N.W. Its bed is still sandy with Tea-tree bushes growing in it, and with Water-gum and Apple-tree at its banks. The flats are more or いっそう少なく open, with Box trees and Box saplings. The 跡をつける crosses the river and follows it at its 権利 bank. Between the west creek and the river there is 山の尾根 and two rather 目だつ hills, with Cypresspine and very sandy slopes. Wommai chased here an emu without success, but saw from the slope two large hills to the northward, which I supposed to be 開始する Bindango and 開始する 豊富; we shall come to them to-morrow. Our fat is done, and we 開始する with gelatine soup. Lat. 26 deg. 40 min.

September the 2nd.—温度計 27 degrees at sunrise. After having menaged our soup of two ducks and a bronze-winged pigeon, we started に引き続いて again Kennedy's dray 跡をつける. After 4 miles we saw a hill to the left and went up to its 最高の，を越す ーするために have a 見解（をとる）; there was a 範囲 to the eastward, striking nearly N.N.W.-S.S.E.; other 範囲s or 山の尾根s are to the northward. It was evident, that one old dray 跡をつける returning was below Kennedy's fresh 跡をつけるs; it was 明白な by the little trees 存在 turned to the southward. The country appeared to me either scrubby or of the same description as I had seen beforehand on the river. Mr. Isaacs, however, said that the country appeared to open to the 西方の, and that it was possible that the little creek we had seen joining the river was the Cogoon of Mitchell. I went その結果 to the 西方の and （機の）カム again at first to Box 山の尾根s with some Myall, and afterwards to sandy Cypresspine 山の尾根s; these continued as a 分割 of water to the 西方の; we kept S.W. and S.S.W., and （機の）カム at last on a forky creek and more to the southward on a chain of waterholes which brought me to the supposed Cogoon. The country did not change; the Cypresspine 山の尾根s approached frequently the creek, and formed high rocky banks; when they receded 限られた／立憲的な Box and Apple-tree flats 介入するd; the creek 含む／封じ込めるs plenty of water, in sound good-sized water-穴を開けるs. Here Mr. Bunce 観察するd the faint 跡をつける of a cart, which was probably Mitchell's reconnoitering 跡をつける. The little cruciferous 工場／植物 is very たびたび（訪れる） on the sandy flats and slopes on the slopes of the east 範囲 these sands seemed 平等に to 存在する; they first made me believe that they were plains or 負かす／撃墜するs.

September 3rd.—温度計 40 deg. We heard distinctly the knocking of a tomahawk last night, すぐに after our arrival, and this morning we past the still 燃やすing 解雇する／砲火／射撃 of a native （軍の）野営地，陣営, not ｽ a mile from our own. It is probable that the passing by of our horses and mules last night had made him go away. We went 負かす／撃墜する the creek to the junction for nearly 7 miles; the country was still the same 限られた／立憲的な Apple-tree and Box flats, and sandy Cypresspine 山の尾根s. From the junction (（軍の）野営地，陣営 79) we returned on our old 跡をつける a little below （軍の）野営地，陣営 80. The country appeared to me best 一連の会議、交渉／完成する the （軍の）野営地，陣営 79; the sandy 山の尾根s are very bad; the country 一連の会議、交渉／完成する number 80 is 極端に open, with Box, but there are many hollows which are evidently under water during any continuance of 雨の 天候. Wommai 発射 a 黒人／ボイコット cormorant which was skinned and put into the soup; it had an 極端に 汚い smell. Mr. Isaacs has recommended Johnny cakes for the morning of the 4th of September. Southerly 勝利，勝つd very chilly. Our old horse knocked up, and we had to leave it behind.

September the 4th.—Night 極端に 穏やかな; 温度計, at sunrise, 54 deg. Easterly 勝利，勝つd rather chilly; first part of the last night cloudy. A whole 群れている of white and rose Cockatoos were seen on the ground, on an 明らかに 乾燥した，日照りのd-up lagoon—they probably were feeding on some roots. Wommai had 観察するd a large 穴を開ける, which the natives had dug to 得る roots, the chewed parts of which were 一連の会議、交渉／完成する the 穴を開ける, he said they belonged to young Sterculia. We travelled about 4 miles south, when we （機の）カム to the place where we first had met the dray road of Sir Thomas Mitchell. A little その上の south we 示すd a tree with a cross and an L in the 支持を得ようと努めるd. We travelled about 4 miles その上の and （機の）カム to a （軍の）野営地，陣営 of Kennedy's on a lagoon in the bed of the little creek we had （軍の）野営地，陣営d at on the 30th August, and which we had left the 31st. It is remarkable how far these waters run 平行の to each other. Fourteen miles その上の we （機の）カム again on a （軍の）野営地，陣営 of Kennedy, where we had tried to 得る water in the sandy bed of the river; the river had become very small and looked more like an ana-支店 of that we had left at （軍の）野営地，陣営 80. It seemed however out of 疑問 that it was the same river. We continued a short distance lower 負かす／撃墜する and （軍の）野営地，陣営d without water, the whole country about us 存在 burnt and 燃やすing. Wommai saw a native who was stooping 負かす／撃墜する and 明らかに 占領するd with digging roots. He decamped as soon as he saw us. The country for the first 10 miles from （軍の）野営地，陣営 80 was very open and 延長するd a good way off the river; その上の on hollows with water Box becomes たびたび（訪れる） and it got 密集して wooded with saplings. All the hollows and lagoons were 乾燥した，日照りの. Sandy 山の尾根s approached the river, and at one place a hilly country covered with a green looking viscous grass had much the 外見 of real 負かす／撃墜するs. But the grass was 厳しい and stiff and good neither for cattle nor sheep. A new 種類 of Grevillea with downy pods was growing here. Mr. Bunce collected a 罰金 種類 of Senecio, a new Gnaphaluim and a yellow cruciferous 工場／植物.

September the 5th.—We travelled 15 miles その上の over a 密集して wooded country, with many hollows and 乾燥した，日照りのd-up lagoons, without finding water. We passed some high rocky 山の尾根s covered with scrub. At the end of this 行う／開催する／段階 we （機の）カム to a （軍の）野営地，陣営 of Sir Thomas 示すd 81; the creek was even smaller than before. Supposing that water would not be very far, I 棒 over to the 権利 味方する of the river and 設立する a 罰金 lagoon, which was however 乾燥した，日照りのing up; here we 野営するd and 満足させるd our かわき and hunger. Mr. Isaacs 発射 a 黒人／ボイコット Ibis. As we were riding along we saw smoke of the natives to the south, and this smoke seemed to hang 負かす／撃墜する from a small cloud which 解散させるd and formed again several times. The direction of the river was S.E. as much as I could 裁判官; for I was too tired to carry my compass 絶えず in my 手渡す. Mr. Bunce 設立する a yellow variety of the scrub Stenochilus, the red variety of which is also ありふれた. Perry had the shivers last night, and Wommai is not 井戸／弁護士席; could the cormorant have anything to do with it? Perry is 井戸／弁護士席 again to-day. These long 行う／開催する／段階s are 極端に tiresome. Every one has taken advantage of the 早期に （軍の）野営地，陣営 to wash his shirt. The night was 穏やかな, but the 勝利，勝つd 転換ing during the day is very chilly.

September the 7th.—My latitude at Mitchell's （軍の）野営地，陣営 lagoon was 27 deg. 28 min. As I ーするつもりであるd to go only to 27 deg. 30 min. I continued on the 6th along the river for about 4 miles; at 2 or 3 miles we 設立する a 罰金 waterhole in the bed, and thousands of 支持を得ようと努めるd-swallows hovering about it. I now struck off to the eastward and soon entered into a scrubby country, which continued for 12 miles, when we were compelled to （軍の）野営地，陣営 without water at a small scrub plain. We tied our horses up and started 早期に this morning, continuing to the eastward. The scrub which was composed yesterday of Box and Vitex and Dodonaea with native Lemon and Goodia, of Bricklow and Casuarina, and of Cypresspine thickets, was principally composed of the latter with Stenochilus on a sandy 国／地域; the Box 開始s became more たびたび（訪れる） and Apple-tree and Moreton Bay ash appeared as we approached a creek with a 罰金 large water-穴を開ける which runs W.N.W. by E.S.E. We saw again the burrows of the new animal in the red 国／地域 on which the Cypresspine grows, but its channels were not so 深い, and there were many 穴を開けるs の近くに together. Mr Bunce 発射 yesterday male and 女性（の） of Platycercus Gilberti, the yellowhead Philotis was also 発射. We travelled about 6 miles to-day. Large heaps of the straw of the native millet were lying on the little scrub plain, the natives had no 疑問 made their 収穫 there. Mr. Isaacs 発射 a 黒人／ボイコット Ibis on Mitchell's Lagoon, and we had it for yesterday's breakfast.

September the 7th, Evening.—After 2ｽ miles travelling to the east passing all along through a low Box country with たびたび（訪れる） hollows; we arrived at the running river which we considered 同一の with the Smoky one of Mr. Bunce; its bed was sandy with many tea-trees and Water-gum, but no Casuarina. We followed it up for about 7 miles, and passed three watercourses, two of them with waterholes appeared to be creeks, one perhaps the Lagoon river east of the Graftonridges. The low box-flats and hollows 延長するd along the river, but さらに先に off it seemed tolerably open, and we passed over a little plain. Myall was 観察するd in scattered 見本／標本s and the Moreton Bay Ash and the Apple-tree make their 外見 with the Water-box. Swainsonia is very abundant; two 支持を得ようと努めるd ducks were 発射.

September the 8th.—Mr. Bunce discovered this morning very old horse dung at the very place where we 野営するd. We continued to follow up the river, and had gone scarcely 3 miles, when dray 跡をつけるs were 観察するd; they were very old and faint, and belonged to Mitchell's 探検隊／遠征隊. Fresh horse 跡をつけるs were seen coming 負かす／撃墜する the River, and 明らかに turning up to the N.W., on Mitchell's 跡をつける, 29th April 1846. These horse 跡をつけるs were 観察するd all along our road, and at one place an L was 削減（する） into a small water gum tree with a 黒人／ボイコット-fellow's tomahawk. We travelled about 8ｽ miles N.N.E., when a large creek joined from the northward (it was gently running （許可，名誉などを）与えるing to Mr. Isaacs) and the river now took an almost 予定 easterly direction; we followed it for 8 miles さらに先に E. by N.; the Water-box flats were very 広範囲にわたる; the flood-示すs very high; the lagoons became more 非常に／多数の, and a very large one was seen not long before （軍の）野営地，陣営ing, where the river took a northerly and even westerly bend; its bed was sandy or pebbly and sound; it was lined with Tea-tree, and the wider 穴を開けるs with reeds; they were teeming with ducks, which our sportsmen were not able to kill. It was a 罰金 day, with a gentle easterly 微風; the country was, in general, closely wooded, but some patches were very open and 約束d fair to 広げる さらに先に off the river; in some places the banks of the river were scrubby, one with Bricklow, mostly with Box-saplings and Vitex. The Unio is still the only 爆撃する in the （軍の）野営地，陣営s of the natives which seems very 非常に／多数の; this makes me believe, that the Condamine has nothing to do with it, as it 含む／封じ込めるs mostly Anodontas with 厚い 黒人／ボイコット epidermis.

September the 9th.—The night 穏やかな—thermom. at sunrise, 42 deg. We （機の）カム about 18 miles E.N.E., over a country very 類似の to that of yesterday. We passed some 罰金 open patches but sandy 国／地域, and Cypresspine and Moreton Bay ash. We crossed a creek from the northward, about 9 miles from the （軍の）野営地，陣営, and a second very large one about 15 miles; the Water-box flats and lateral hollows were likely yesterday's, several chains of ponds. に向かって the large creek the Myall became very abundant. We passed, at about 12 miles, a tree 示すd H and another after having crossed the largest creek, the latter was in a very good sound country, however, still with the Moreton Bay ash. Wommai 発射 5 ducks, and got 5 young 黒人／ボイコット cormorants out of a nest, which was built on a 支店 overhanging the water. A very downy Plantago is very ありふれた; the onion-leaved Antherium likewise.

September the 10th.—The night was 穏やかな though （疑いを）晴らす; in the morning it became 曇った, and when we started it began to rain, いつかs in 激しい にわか雨s, with a light westerly movement in the clouds, and 雷鳴. When we were 野営するd at about 4 o'clock, a 激しい 雷雨 （機の）カム on from the 西方の, and it was fortunate that we had 後継するd in lighting a 解雇する／砲火／射撃, around which we 根気よく waited for its termination, having rolled our 一面に覆う／毛布s 一連の会議、交渉／完成する us. The に引き続いて night was 曇った again with the exception of one （疑いを）晴らすing. In the morning of the 11th, it （疑いを）晴らすd up perfectly and became very 罰金. We had new moon the 9th Greenwich time. We crossed a small creek after about nine miles travelling, and a very large one with 幅の広い sandy bed; about 4 miles さらに先に, the country was still closely wooded with very open, puffy, Moreton Bay ash and Cypresspine rises, patches of Bricklow and Vitex scrub. We went about 6 miles N. 70 deg. W. Wommai 発射 some ducks for breakfast.

September the 11th.—The river easted still more to-day than yesterday; we travelled about 18 miles E. by N., and 野営するd a short distance off the river, at a little scrub creek; we crossed, in 9 miles, the Horse 跡をつける river, which 保存するd its former character, and a 罰金 creek 含む／封じ込めるing large lagoons of water, which, no 疑問, is the creek we had （軍の）野営地，陣営d at in going out the night before we arrived at the Horse 跡をつける river. Mr. Bunce and Wommai, who had been 負かす／撃墜する the river when they were lost, 明言する／公表するd, that opposite our （軍の）野営地，陣営 a large lagoon 存在するd 近づく the river, covered with Pelicans and every description of water-fowl.

September the 12th.—The night was very dewy. We had last night 5 teal, and this morning 3 teal; one 黒人／ボイコット duck and a wallobi; Wommai had 発射 6 and 7 at one 発射, but had lost five of them in riding along. We had not gone more than 3 miles east, when we （機の）カム to the river; the country was scrubby with the exception of one or two 罰金 puffy hills; the Bricklow scrub continued some way up the river, which, after its 停止, makes a 広大な／多数の／重要な bend to the southward; Wommai and Bunce had （軍の）野営地，陣営d the first night below this scrub. Up to the Sunday River the country is again 木材／素質d with Cypresspine, Moreton Bay ash, silver-leaved Ironbark; the underwood is a glaucous pinnate-leaved Acacia; the 国／地域 is puffy; water-box flats with gullies 介入する between these detached stretches of open country. We crossed the Sunday River and Bunce's Creek, and （軍の）野営地，陣営d about 3 miles higher up. The Emu-herb, a legumenous aromatic 工場／植物 is plentiful, and our mules and horses enjoy it 大いに, but it grows not on the puffy 国／地域. The country which was burnt and 燃やすing when we went 負かす／撃墜する, is now 着せる／賦与するd with green grass, which looks 特に fresh after the rain of the 10th. We saw at first two, and afterwards one emu; Camden is too 激しい for them. The creek has 減少（する）d 大いに in size; it is rocky and its banks frequently perpendicular precipices; it cannot be the Condamine, but it must have something to do with Dogwood Creek or 瓶／封じ込める-tree Creek, as it is still running. I have forgotten to について言及する that we saw a 広大な／多数の／重要な number of very large cockroach-like Orthopterous insects running over the ground, where the young grass did 許す us to see the surface. They （機の）カム out of their 穴を開けるs, no 疑問, in consequence of the rain of the 先行する day.

September the 13th.—We crossed the Smoky River and travelled about 11 miles east 15 deg. north. The first 3 miles were very open, some sound box country and puffy Cypresspine 山の尾根s. Here we entered into Bricklow and Casuarina scrub, and travelled in it for about 5-6 miles, when we （機の）カム to a most beautiful open Box country, 着せる／賦与するd with the rich green of young grass. Wommai gave chase to an old-man kangaroo, which Camden 後継するd in keeping at bay until our gay sportsman 発射 him. His 長，率いる was remarkably short and 幅の広い. An open Box-支持を得ようと努めるd country on the hollow 長，率いるs of little creeks 特に to the S.E. We had not continued more than 3 miles, when we met a large creek running strong S.-N. This is no 疑問 the river we left, having been joined by the two Emu creeks and by the small river next to them to the eastward. Diuvis maculata in blossom; its tubers have an agreeable though glutinous taste.

September the 14th.—The 温度計, at sunrise, 46 deg. The latitude by Altair 26 deg. 53 min. Last night we enjoyed one of the 脚s of the old-man kangaroo, which stewed for about three hours gave us a most excellent soup, mixed with a little flour. This morning we had the other 脚, leaving the tail and 残余 for to-morrow's breakfast, and the fore ４半期/4分の1s for the dogs. We travelled about 12 miles 15 deg. N.; the first 3 miles were an open Box country 限られた／立憲的な by a belt of Dodonaea scrub. Having passed it, we entered upon most beautiful scrub-負かす／撃墜するs, with small tufts of Bricklow, and with some 孤立するd Box-trees; the grass was all burnt and looked now fresh and green. To the left dense Bricklow-scrub 延長するd, to the 権利 Box with Dodonaea and Vitex underwood; we passed over at least 4 miles of the 負かす／撃墜するs, when we （機の）カム again upon 罰金 open Box-country, which 延長するd for 5 miles, our course was then 迎撃するd by a large creek, with high rocky ledges and running water. It formed a large pond in winding to the S.W., and to the east again. This pond was nearly 1ｽ—2 miles long, 深い; but a rocky bed, now empty; went across about that distance from the 底（に届く） of the pond; we followed the creek until we 設立する a crossing-place, when we passed over to its left 味方する. One mile before this crossing-place 3 trees, were 示すd with B, one of them was 削減（する） into the 支持を得ようと努めるd, the bark 存在 除去するd. At the crossing, Wommai 発射 two Teals and one Blackduck, and 観察するd cattle 跡をつけるs. We followed the creek for about 3 miles higher up. Its banks were rather scrubby, with 限られた／立憲的な patches of good country; the opposite (権利) 味方する looked better. The question was what creek it was, and I am inclined to believe that it is Dogwood Creek. With this supposition my reckoning and several other circumstances agree. The flood 示すs are not so high as they were when we left the Condamine; the Anadonta is wanting, the creek is running and neither Charly's Creek nor the Condamine was; the Acacia, with glaucous phyllodia is very たびたび（訪れる）; it was not so たびたび（訪れる） at the Condamine. But the country has 完全に changed, it is for the most part sound and Myall is ありふれた. It gets very cloudy, and a 冷淡な 勝利，勝つd blew during the whole day from the eastward. The creek and the Box forest were 十分な of horse-跡をつけるs as if by gentlemen 診察するing the country.

Russel's 駅／配置する, Darling 負かす／撃墜するs,

1st August, 1847.

The news of my return to the 負かす／撃墜するs will no 疑問 have reached you by the last steamer from Moreton Bay. I had hoped to go by her to Sydney, and that 期待, 追加するd to a very 厳しい rheumatism in my 手渡すs, 妨げるd my 令状ing by her. I wrote to you last from Charley's Creek, について言及するing the loss and 回復 of my mules, horses, and cattle. I had despatched Mr. Hely in 追求（する），探索（する） of 知能 of Sir T. Mitchell's 探検隊／遠征隊, of whose return I had been 知らせるd, but by some 事故 of the 地位，任命する, neither your letters nor Sir Thomas's despatches ever reached me. Mr. Hely, Mr. Turnbull, and Brown joined me forty miles さらに先に on my 旅行, and we travelled 静かに without 事故 負かす／撃墜する the Dawson, then running so strong as to 強要する us to take advantage of a large tree which had fallen across it, to 伝える our baggage over. At 廃虚d 城 Creek I left one of my horses which had become hopelessly lame. At 探検隊／遠征隊 範囲, the rains 始める，決める in, and the ground soon became so boggy that our mules sank to their bellies, and we made but slow 進歩. All the water-courses and creeks between 探検隊／遠征隊 and Christmas 範囲s became flooded, and compelled us to make a long roundabout to 長，率いる them.

Deception Creek and 惑星 Creek were swollen into 巨大な rivers, and all the surrounding country was inundated. I had 恐れるd the Mackenzie would stop us, and on our arrival at that river, after seven weeks' travelling from 乾燥した，日照りのd-beef Creek, my 恐れるs were but too fully realised, There had been several 事例／患者s of illness as we travelled through the scrub, but here the whole party were attacked by fever, which subsequently assumed the character of fever and ague. I 苦しむd from it for nine days, and it left me very weak for a long while after. We had to wait for three weeks before the river was fordable, and after getting over the party were so exhausted by illness, we 設立する ourselves wholly unable to proceed, and had to remain for three weeks longer to 回復する our strength; no 疑問 the 病気 was very depressing, though not of that dangerous character which the party apprehended, most of whom had hitherto been unacquainted with illness of any 肉親，親類d. Our energy, however, was much broken, and our bodily strength 完全に prostrated for the time. From the idea that change of place and slight exertion would operate beneficially on our health, I 解決するd to move on with the strongest of the party, and accordingly proceeded with the 在庫／株 に向かって 頂点（に達する） 範囲, which I knew to be only sixty miles from the junction of the 惑星 and Mackenzie rivers. After the first 行う／開催する／段階, however, our helplessness became so 明らかな, that I saw the impracticability of dividing our party, and returned with my healthy 黒人／ボイコット (poor Brown was やめる knocked up), and brought in the 残りの人，物 of the party with all our luggage, to my 停止（させる）ing ground. Here our goats and sheep 逸脱するd away from the （軍の）野営地，陣営. No one was able to watch them, and we were at length compelled to leave them behind.

After a 残り／休憩（する） of three days we again moved on for three days more, making about thirty miles in all, and reached the 負かす／撃墜するs of the Upper Mackenzie and 頂点（に達する） 範囲. Here the loss of the horses 説得力のある us to stop, and as we had no more sheep, we killed the first 長，率いる of cattle. I had some hope that the change of diet, from fat mutton to 乾燥した，日照りのd beef, might operate favourably on our health, but in this also I was disappointed, as the rain 始める，決める in as the meat was 乾燥した，日照りのing, and it その結果 become tainted and unpalatable. After having stopped here for nearly a fortnight, we again 前進するd about ten miles さらに先に. The 黒人／ボイコット whom I had sent for the cattle, mistook our 跡をつける and passed us when he had 設立する them, and after watching them, left them during the night to 再結合させる us. During the interval they 逸脱するd away. I again sent two of the party in 追跡, すなわち, Mr. Hely and Brown, and moved on my （軍の）野営地，陣営 に向かって 頂点（に達する） 範囲. Unfortunately, Brown lost his horse the first night, and they were compelled to return to us for fresh horses and 準備／条項s, without having 設立する the cattle. Thus the cattle got a long way in 前進する, became 分散させるd in the scrub, and 脅すd probably by the natives, became so wild that when Mr. Hely and the 黒人／ボイコットs again approached them, they were so wild, they only 後継するd in bringing 支援する nine out of thirty-seven, after a fortnight's absence from the （軍の）野営地，陣営, Here we killed another bullock and 乾燥した，日照りのd the meat, and endeavoured by using 広大な／多数の／重要な vigilance to 保持する the others. But in spite of all our 成果／努力s the wild brutes broke away every night, and in five days we lost them altogether. Mr. Hely and Brown had again started in 追跡 of the others, but after an absence of ten days, during which they had been overtaken by sickness, they returned 不成功の. Nothing now was left but to go myself upon this errand, and accordingly I went with Jemmy, the 黒人／ボイコット, to that part of our 跡をつける which I thought they were most likely to have 退却／保養地d to, and after a week's anxious search, I （機の）カム upon four, which I brought 支援する to （軍の）野営地，陣営, where I 設立する all my companions ill with fever, and the mules and horses gone.

I now saw the 徹底的な helplessness of our position, that all その上の endeavour was vain, and that we had nothing for it but a 迅速な return. I cannot 表明する to you the extreme agony of mind I 耐えるd when this 苦しめるing 有罪の判決 （機の）カム upon me.

I すぐに 始める，決める about collecting the mules and horses, leaving the cattle in 告発（する），告訴（する）／料金 of the party. The mules had separated, which they had not done since leaving Charley's Creek. I followed six of them for ninety miles on our 跡をつける に向かって 探検隊／遠征隊 範囲, but could not 追いつく them, and was compelled to return to （軍の）野営地，陣営, with seven others. On my arrival I 設立する, as indeed I had 心配するd, that my companions had not been able to 保持する the Cattle, which had gone off the morning after I left. They had, however, again 安全な・保証するd them, and had killed one and 乾燥した，日照りのd the meat, which was of the greatest advantage to us. They had also 回復するd three horses and three mules, which thus 増加するd our 在庫／株 to ten horses and nine mules.

Leaving our tea, salt, 発射, and other baggage behind, we started on our road home, and after travelling thirty days without any interruption we reached the （軍の）野営地，陣営 of Messrs. Blyth and Che[au]vel, on the Condamine, on the 21st July, and on the 28th the 駅／配置する of Mr. H. S. Russel, on Darling 負かす／撃墜するs, where I 提案する to leave my things till a new party is 組織するd, which I hope will be about the beginning of next May.

Notwithstanding the many unforeseen hardships we 耐えるd, my party behaved 極端に 井戸／弁護士席.

I am indeed sadly 悩ますd by this 失望: I find I have lost a year of my life in 影響ing nothing, and have been 強いるd to turn 支援する from the very point at which I had 提案するd to strike to the 西方の. At the 負かす／撃墜するs I read the account of Sir T. Mitchell's 発見s. I find he has crossed, my 跡をつける at 探検隊／遠征隊 範囲, but さらに先に to the 西方の than I did; his Mudge-kye is the most distant of my Christmas 範囲, his Mantuan 負かす／撃墜するs are my Albinia 負かす／撃墜するs; his Nogoa is my 惑星 River, though I did not go so far up as to see the junction of the Salvator and the Claude; and I am afraid that as his Belyando turns out to be the Cape, his Victoria will turn out to be the Clarke, the largest 支流 of the Burdekin from the 西方の.

I am desirous to 診察する the country between my 跡をつける and Fitz Roy 負かす／撃墜するs, which I shall do as soon as my rheumatism will 許す me, for at 現在の I am laid up with it.

We have the 楽しみ of 発表するing that Dr. Leichhardt has returned in good health to Sydney, and that nothing daunted by his late 逆転するs, he has 決定するd to make another 試みる／企てる to cross to Swan River as soon as he can make the necessary 手はず／準備. We have been favoured with the に引き続いて narrative of his 最近の trip to Fitz Roy 負かす／撃墜するs.

An account of a 旅行 to the 西方の of Darling 負かす／撃墜するs, undertaken with the 見解（をとる） of 診察するing the country between Sir Thomas Mitchell's 跡をつける and my own.

I started from Mr. H. S. Russell's 駅／配置する on the 9th of August last, …を伴ってd by Mr. F. N. Isaacs, Mr. Bunce, Mr. Perry, and my blackfellow. We followed the dray 跡をつける to Mr. Gogg's sheep 駅／配置する, at the 長，率いる of Acacia Creek, which is a 支流 of Dogwood Creek. On the 15th we travelled 負かす／撃墜する Acacia Creek about 12 miles W.N.W.; on the 16th we made Dogwood Creek at my old crossing-place, in latitude 26.24, and continued for about 10 miles N.W. by west, に引き続いて a small creek up to its 長，率いる, and coming to watercourses belonging to another creek which I had called 瓶／封じ込める-tree Creek on my first 探検隊／遠征隊. The country was scrubby with a few patches of open forest; the latitude of our （軍の）野営地，陣営 was 26.20. On the 17th we followed the water-course 負かす／撃墜する to 瓶／封じ込める-tree Creek, which was 井戸／弁護士席 供給（する）d with water: we crossed it and （機の）カム on a 罰金 rocky creek with running water, about two miles W.S.W. from the latter; the 介入するing country was however a rotten, rusty-gum forest, with 時折の patches of cypress pine and forest oak; we passed another 乾燥した，日照りの creek in the same course and （機の）カム to a 罰金 open flat or undulating 狭くする-leaved ironbark forest, which seemed to continue to the eastward; we 野営するd on a chain of 罰金 waterholes about twelve miles W.S.W. from our last （軍の）野営地，陣営. On the 18th we travelled about twelve miles and a half S.W.; two miles and a half from our （軍の）野営地，陣営 we （機の）カム to a good sized creek, with the water filtering through the sands and pebbles; in に引き続いて it up between hills and ledges of 激しく揺する, we （機の）カム on a （米）棚上げする／（英）提議する-land with patches of scrubby underwood. To the S.W. there were other creeks and gullies, which compelled us to keep to the southward to come to a more open country. Here the bricklow scrub re-appeared, which, with one exception, we had not seen since we left the left 味方する of Dogwood Creek. We entered upon a box flat, which 広げるd as we followed 負かす／撃墜する its 乾燥した，日照りの watercourse, in a southerly and even south-easterly direction, and when the bricklow scrub, which skirted the flat 中止するd and 許すd us to travel to the S.W., we passed for four miles over most beautiful open box 山の尾根s, 井戸／弁護士席 grassed and perfectly sound; this open country 延長するd to the south-east as far as the 注目する，もくろむ could reach. In latitude 26.32 we （機の）カム to a 罰金 creek, with very large ponds of 永久の water, surrounded with reeds, and with myal groves along its banks. The open box forest to the 西方の of this creek made me believe that I could proceed on a westerly course; but after a few miles travelling we were checked by scrub, which 押し進めるd us to the south-east, until we （機の）カム 支援する to the creek we had left; we followed it 負かす／撃墜する for a few miles and 野営するd in latitude 26.39. The country to the left was still open, but to the 権利 bricklow scrub approached, very nearly the banks of the creek. The waterholes, though 井戸／弁護士席 供給するd with water were all boggy and our mules went rather without water than expose themselves to the danger of 存在 bogged. The creek turned to the south-east and east-south-east. In travelling to the 西方の we soon entered into a dense bricklow scrub, which continued for nine miles, when the country again opened into 罰金 box 山の尾根s and undulations. We followed a small creek, 井戸／弁護士席 供給するd with waterholes, for about four miles to the 西方の, when it turned to the southward, and having crossed a 山の尾根 we （機の）カム to another creek of the same character, running N. and S. on which we （軍の）野営地，陣営d, in latitude 26.43, having made about thirteen miles W.S.W. from our last （軍の）野営地，陣営. One and a half miles to the 西方の of this creek we met another small creek, and four miles さらに先に we crossed a large creek with high flood 示すs, and with high box 山の尾根s, 特に on its 権利 banks. I am inclined to believe that the open box country of the four last について言及するd creeks 延長するs in an easterly direction 一連の会議、交渉／完成する the scrub we had crossed to the first box creek, and in a southerly direction to a large creek or river, which is formed by the 連合させるd Dogwood Creek and 瓶／封じ込める-tree Creek. Soon after having crossed the largest of those creeks, which we called "Emu Creeks," in consequence of 非常に／多数の 跡をつけるs of emus on the young grass, we entered into bricklow scrub, which became so dense, that after five miles scrubbing we were glad to follow a very winding watercourse to the S.E.; it 大きくするd into a chain of large 深い water-穴を開けるs, which seemed to be the constant 訴える手段／行楽地 of 非常に／多数の natives, who had 建設するd their bark gunyas at most of them. Having followed it 負かす／撃墜する for six or seven miles we 野営するd in latitude 26.48. This creek continues for ten miles S.S.E. before it 会合，会うs Dogwood Creek. It becomes rocky; the country opens; but the ground is rotten, and 木材／素質d with cypress pine, forest oak, and apple tree, which is here anything but the 指示，表示する物 of a good country. The scrub 中止するs about two and a half miles above the junction. Here we turned to the 西方の, and travelled three miles, when we （機の）カム to the 深い channel of a large creek, with flood 示すs above the banks; the latter wore frequently formed by perpendicular 激しく揺するs; the bed was sandy, and rather boggy, in consequence of the slight stream of water which was filtering through the sands. A small 狭くする-leaved tea-tree was growing along the water's 辛勝する／優位. Cypress pine and white gum formed a tolerably open forest; we （軍の）野営地，陣営d on the 権利 bank of this creek, in latitude 26.55. Mr. Bunce, and my blackfellow, who had gone to shoot ducks, did not come up to our （軍の）野営地，陣営 that night, nor the next morning, and 恐れるing that some 事故 had happened, I returned to the winding creek we had left. The に引き続いて morning the absentees joined us, and explained their absence, by having come on the fresh 跡をつけるs of another party, which they followed until they 観察するd the want of mules' 跡をつけるs, which induced them to return to the place where they had left us. They had seen a 広大な／多数の／重要な number of natives, amongst whom they 認めるd a blackfellow and his gin, by a white 位置／汚点／見つけ出す which the latter had on her neck. These two had visited us in our （軍の）野営地，陣営 at Charley's Creek, when starring for 頂点（に達する） 範囲. At that time many natives from the Balonne passed Charley's Creek to go to the Bunya Bunya. We now travelled 負かす／撃墜する the little creek to its junction with Dogwood Creek, and followed the latter for one and a half miles, where the large sandy creek joined it. Below this junction Dogwood Creek 増加するs very much in size, and the high flood-示すs on the box trees that cover the flats 示す the large 団体／死体 of water which sweeps 負かす／撃墜する its channel during the 雨の season. We continued on our westerly course and left the river, which takes a turn to the southward; but bricklow scrub and sandstone gullies compelled us to south a little and we 野営するd on a small scrubby creek, about ten miles W. by S. from the junction of Sandy Creek. For the next eleven miles to the 西方の we travelled over a scrubby myal country, with patches of open puffy ironbark forest and of cypress pine. At this 行う／開催する／段階 we saw a 目だつ hill to the southward. We （機の）カム to a river from the northward, with high but 不規律な bunks, lined with large water gum; its bed was sandy, 含む／封じ込めるing pebbles of 化石 支持を得ようと努めるd, broken pieces of agate, and variously coloured flint and quartz; it was overgrown with tea-tree and was 井戸／弁護士席 供給するd with water 穴を開けるs. 裁判官ing from its size its course could not be いっそう少なく than 180 miles, and the presence of the 化石 支持を得ようと努めるd and of agate made us believe that, it （機の）カム from a 負かす／撃墜するs country. I was inclined to think, that it was my Robinson's Creek, which I had crossed in latitude 25.30, about ninety miles above our 現在の crossing place. The country along its banks was closely 木材／素質d with box and box saplings. Here we saw the 跡をつけるs of five horses coming from tho 西方の and 明らかに passing 負かす／撃墜する the river. Fourteen miles to the west of this river which we distinguished by the 指名する of "Horsetrack River," we （機の）カム to a large creek 傾向ing to the S.E. the 介入するing country is 一般に scrubby; 時折の patches of open forest are very puffy. In this puffy ground, 近づく clusters of cypress pine, we 観察するd the 深い burrows of a probably unknown animal. The 入り口 is a large 穴を開ける, four or five feet 深い, from the 底（に届く） of which the burrow passes horizontally under ground. It was about one and a-half foot in 直径, and would 示す an animal of the size of the beaver. Its 跡をつけるs 似ているd those of a child two or three years old, によれば the 観察s of my companions; its dung 似ているd that of the kangaroo, and 示すd a herbivorous animal. The creek was lined with water-gum and tea-tree, and was 井戸／弁護士席 供給するd with large reedy water-穴を開けるs. My companions called it "the Yahoo River," which 指名する I shall 可決する・採択する to distinguish it from the other creeks. At night, when we were sitting 一連の会議、交渉／完成する our 解雇する／砲火／射撃, we heard a loud shrill "pish-sh-sh," the disagreeable call of a night bird; Wommai, my 黒人／ボイコット-fellow, watched it and 後継するd in 狙撃 it. It 証明するd to be a beautiful little フクロウ, a 種類 of cyclops. Ten miles west of the Yahoo, we crossed another large creek, with large reedy water-穴を開けるs in its sandy bed. The 介入するing country is covered with a 汚い cypress pine and dodonea scrub. When seen from the 西方の of the large creek, which I shall call "Frederick's Creek," it appears in form of a low 範囲. The approaches from the eastward of the creek are 罰金 and open. We continued our course to the 西方の for ten miles over sandy 山の尾根s, covered with most wretched cypress pine scrub, and （機の）カム to a large creek with reedy waterholes and sandy bed, which I shall call "Bunce's Creek." Its direction was from N.W. to S.E. The slopes に向かって the creek were 率直に 木材／素質d with box; beyond it we saw a long 範囲 延長するing from N. to S.; we crossed it in latitude 26.59. Scarcely two miles to the 西方の we （機の）カム to sandstone 山の尾根s which were covered with scrub composed of cypress pine, dodonea, and bricklow, and which 延長するd fully ten miles to the 西方の. Here another 種類 of acacia akin to the bricklow formed a scrub worse than any we had yet met; dead 木材／素質 made the road 極端に circuitous, and the 進歩 slow, and as it was frequently overgrown with 厚い underwood composed of さまざまな 利益／興味ing aromatic shrubs it became dangerous for our mules and horses to pass through it. 存在 tired of an 明らかに never-中止するing succession of these acacia 山の尾根s, we followed a water-course W. 30 S. for about three or four miles, when we 設立する a good 供給（する） of water in a rocky waterhole. すぐに after having 野営するd, three natives walked boldly up to us, after having cooeed and having received our cooee in return; Mr. Isaacs and myself met them about fifty yards from our （軍の）野営地，陣営 to ascertain if possible whether we were 近づく the Colgoon, which we 推定する／予想するd soon to see—however they did not understand us, but parted good friends, after having received three 厚かましさ／高級将校連 buttons each; there was no 疑問 that they had seen white men before. In coming 負かす／撃墜する the little creek we had seen a 罰金 plain to the eastward, and when we left it and travelled to the 西方の we passed over very 罰金 open box 山の尾根s. Six miles from the little creek, and about twenty miles W. of Bunce's Creek, we （機の）カム to a little river, with a 深い but 乾燥した，日照りの bed, though with some ponds 十分な of water 平行の to it. The country continued open for about three miles to the 西方の of it, but at that distance a very scrubby 山地の country 開始するd; this river was the Colgoon, we 推定する／予想するd it, but not finding Sir Thomas Mitchell's 跡をつける, I supposed I was out in my reckoning and 決定するd to 押し進める on to the 西方の until we （機の）カム to the 跡をつける. We passed for seven miles over the scrubby mountains and were surprised to come to a large creek which went to the northward, we （軍の）野営地，陣営d on this creek in latitude 27' and followed it for about four miles to the northward; it 保存するd its 山地の character and we その結果 left it to continue to the 西方の. We travelled for sixteen miles over a succession of acacia 山の尾根s, and creeks, which turned all to the N.E. and E.N.E. to join the North Creek, and some of these creek had patches of very 罰金 box and myal country. At that distance we met a water-course going S.S.W., which we followed for about ten miles before we （機の）カム to water, and that only after having （軍の）野営地，陣営d a night without it. From a 罰金 rocky waterhole of this little creek we travelled about two miles to the 西方の, when we 設立する ourselves on Sir Thomas Mitchell's returning 跡をつけるs, and Mr. Kennedy's three cart 跡をつけるs outward bound. About five miles to the northward we （機の）カム to （軍の）野営地，陣営 80, and cammed on a little creek with good water-穴を開けるs, in lat. 26.53. We continued to follow the 跡をつけるs of Kennedy to lat. 26.35 passed his （軍の）野営地，陣営 79; 診察するd the country along a small creek joining the river at that （軍の）野営地，陣営; returned on our 跡をつけるs to the place where we first had met Sir Thomas Mitchell's 跡をつけるs, and followed them 負かす／撃墜する to lat. 27.30, passing his （軍の）野営地，陣営 81. Between these two （軍の）野営地，陣営s, which are very nearly 40 miles distant from each other, we had to （軍の）野営地，陣営 without water, and Mr. Kennedy seems to have 株d the some 運命／宿命, for we saw that he had tried to 得る it by digging in the sandy bed of the creek. After having seen sixty miles of Sir Thomas Mitchell's 跡をつける, and finding that the country did not agree with his description of Fitz Roy 負かす／撃墜するs, we 結論するd that we were on the Maranoa, and that the little river we had crossed was really the Colgoon.

We now returned to the eastward, to make the Balonne, to trace this river up to the junction of Dogwood Creek and the Condamine, and to ascertain where those さまざまな creeks I and rivers we had crossed joined the main stream. We travelled, for eighteen miles through a 厚い bricklow scrub, with a few interruptions of open ground, and （機の）カム at that distance from the Maranoa to a chain of 罰金 large ponds. About three miles さらに先に we 設立する the Balonne. All the' hollows, the flats, the gullies along the river, had been covered with water, and the floodmarks were 明白な 十分な five feet above its highest banks. Its course was from N.E. by N. to S.W. by S. We passed the junction of a 深い creek or gully, and （軍の）野営地，陣営d in latitude 27.24, in tolerably open country. About three miles to the northward we saw Sir Thomas's 跡をつけるs, leaving the river, but they were 一般に very faint. In lat. 27.18 (appr.) a large creek joined the Balonne, and we supposed that this was the Colgoon; it was gently running, によれば Mr. Isaacs. The country below the junction of this creek is open, and by far the best we have seen along the 権利 bank of the river' Above the Colgoon it is 一般に closely wooded, with some open patches, but the latter are 一般に puny. From the junction of the Colgoon to the junction of Sandy Creek the Balonne runs from E.N.E.-W.S.W., with wide bends to the southward. Our second （軍の）野営地，陣営 from the Balonne was in latitude 27.17. About twenty-four miles from the junction of the Colgoon, up the river, another large creek joins it. It comes from N. 35 E., and corresponds to Bunce's Creek and Frederick's Creek, which very probably join before 会合 the Balonne. Six miles below and two miles above this creek we saw trees 示すd with an H. Sixteen miles from this creek a third large creek joins the Balonne; this we supposed to be the Yahoo; twelve miles above this we passed the junction of tho Horsetrack River, and,25-30 miles higher we were again at the junction of Sandy Creek. Between these two rivers, about eight to ten miles below Sandy Creek, Mr. Bunce and Wommai had 観察するd the junction of a large creek from the left 味方する, and I suppose that this is the Condamine, which has been followed 負かす／撃墜する by Mr. Coxen and, Pinnock, and by Mr. O'Connor, to its junction with Dogwood Creek. We followed Dogwood Creek up to lat. 26.56, crossed it, and travelled about eleven miles E. by N., when we （機の）カム again on one of its bends to the southward in lat. 26.53. Here we 設立する a 罰金 open box country, but with veins of puffy ground. In continuing the course E. by N. we passed over some very 罰金 country and （機の）カム to the Condamine on a very remarkable bend, below which we 設立する the letter B. Three miles higher up the river we （軍の）野営地，陣営d in 26.49. We travelled about nine miles east when we （機の）カム again to the river, which had made a large bend to the northward; we crossed it, continued about seven miles to the eastward, and approached the river a second time. We had just 野営するd, when my blackfellow heard the neighing of a horse; a gun was すぐに 解雇する／砲火／射撃d, which was answered by the 割れ目 of a 在庫／株 whip, and すぐに afterwards Mr. Ewer （機の）カム up to us, and gave us the agreeable 知能 that we were 近づく his 駅／配置する. We had seen 非常に／多数の cattle 跡をつけるs several miles below the place, and were sure that a 駅／配置する was の近くに at 手渡す.

On my return to Sydney Captain Perry kindly permitted me the 査察 of Sir Thomas Mitchell's 地図／計画する. I find that my suppositions have been 訂正する. His Fitz Roy 負かす／撃墜するs 開始する about ten-fifteen miles above the place where we crossed the Colgoon. He could not have Been the River Balonne to the east of his Grafton 範囲, when he was standing on 開始する 豊富; it was very probably Bunce's Creek, I am inclined to believe that 類似の patches of open country 存在する on the 長，率いるs of Bunce's Creek, Frederick's Creek, Yahoo River, Horse-跡をつける River, and perhaps even of Sandy Creek, but I do not think that they form an 連続する belt of 負かす／撃墜するs above the scrubs of their lower course. A dray road will be 設立する practicable in the 乾燥した，日照りの season from Mitchell's 跡をつける along the Balonne and the Condamine (which is one of its 主要な／長／主犯 長，率いるs), to Mr. Ewer's 駅／配置する and Darling 負かす／撃墜するs. Should 駅／配置するs be formed on the 長，率いるs of these さまざまな creeks the 各々の roads will have to follow 負かす／撃墜する the creek, and join the main road along the Balonne, which will be （判決などを）下すd 極端に circuitous, and difficult by 非常に／多数の gullies, 支援する-waters, and 深い creeks, which join that river. The 駅／配置するs will become very 孤立するd in consequence of those 幅の広い belts of scrubby country 介入するing between the creeks. The natives appear to form powerful tribes along the Balonne and its 非常に／多数の lagoons, and would be dangerous enemies along the scrubs, which would 許す them a 安全な・保証する 退却／保養地 from their 侵略s. Considering the long and 不安定な land carriage, and the high 率 of 給料, 特に in so remote 駅／配置するs, I do not believe that sheep-farming will 支払う／賃金 even as far as the Horse-跡をつける River. Cattle 駅／配置するs might be formed perhaps even as far as Maranoa, which at （軍の）野営地，陣営 80 of Sir Thomas would be very 適格の for the 目的. But the road from that （軍の）野営地，陣営 to Maitland will in all probability be 設立する shorter than that to Moreton Bay. I shall 追加する a few distances, but I beg to 発言／述べる that my distances from Mr. Ewer's 駅／配置する 負かす／撃墜する the Condamine and the Balonne are 概算の as straight lines, which, in a dray-road might be occasionally 二塁打d. The distance from Brisbane to the Wool-shed is about 150 miles, from the Wool-shed to Mr. Ewer's 46 miles, from Mr. Ewer's to the B at the horse-shoe bend of the Condamine about 23 miles, from the B to Sandy River 28 miles, from the Sandy River to Horsetrack River 25-30 miles, from the Horsetrack River to the Yahoo River about 12 miles, from the Yahoo River to Frederick Creek and the H about 16 miles, from the Frederick's Creek to the junction of the Colgoon 24 miles, from the junction of the Colgoon up to Fitz Roy 負かす／撃墜するs, between 40-50 miles. The distance from Brisbane to the junction of the Colgoon with the Balonne would be, によれば this 見積（る）, 332 miles; but the dray-road will 証明する to he, at least, 400 miles.

It is to be 推定する／予想するd that creeks, corresponding to those from the northward, will join the Balonne from the south and south-east, taking their rise in the Mackentire 範囲s; and I have heard that Mr. O'Connor has already 後継するd in finding a 罰金 run on one of them.

Should the country of 頂点（に達する） 範囲 be settled upon, Sir Thomas Mitchell's 跡をつける will no 疑問 form the road on which 在庫／株 will move up to the latitude of that locality, and will then turn to the eastward; my 跡をつける is too 山地の and scrubby for a dray-road, and I myself shall very probably choose Sir Thomas's 跡をつける on my next starting to the 西方の.

In 裁判官ing the country I have seen, I have availed myself of the experience of Mr. Frederick Isaacs, who has such a large 株 in the 探検 of Darling 負かす／撃墜するs and its 限定するs. I shall take this 適切な時期 of giving my best thanks to him, to Mr. Bunce, and to Mr. Perry, for their 肉親，親類d 援助 in this 探検隊／遠征隊. I am 本人自身で 強いるd to Mr. Bunce for a 罰金 collection of seeds and 工場／植物s, which he made, not only on this occasion, but on my 旅行 to 頂点（に達する） 範囲. Mr. Boecking, another of my companions to 頂点（に達する） 範囲, though most willing to …を伴って me to the Colgoon, had been compelled to return from the Wool-shed in consequence of an attack of fever; I feel bound to recommend him, 同様に as Mr. Perry, to every one who should wish to 雇う them, for their unimpeachable moral 行為／行う, for their unceasing activity and 知能; and though they, 同様に as Mr. Bunce, are inclined to 株 my 運命／宿命 again on my next 探検隊／遠征隊, and though I should be happy to have the company of men who have stood the 裁判，公判, I should be sorry for their joining me if better prospects were open to them.

In the 抽出する of my letter published in the Sydney Morning 先触れ（する）, it is 明言する／公表するd that Sir Thomas crossed my 跡をつける at 探検隊／遠征隊 範囲; this is a mistake, he crossed 探検隊／遠征隊 範囲 to the 西方の of my 跡をつける.

I shall 別館 here a 一連の 観察s on the elevation of さまざまな points along the road from Port Stephens to 頂点（に達する） 範囲. They are made with the boiling-water apparatus which the Rev. W. B. Clarke had the 親切 to lend me on this 探検隊／遠征隊:

In travelling from the junction of the 惑星 River with the Mackenzie to 頂点（に達する） 範囲 I followed the Mackenzie up to one of its 長，率いるs and ascertained that the waters which drain from 頂点（に達する） 範囲 to the S. and S.W., collected into the channel of that river; those to the N.W. and W. very probably belong to the system of the Belyando of Mitchell, or of my Cape. On the upper part of the Mackenzie, which is 井戸／弁護士席 watered, we passed over large plains and 負かす／撃墜するs of the 存在 of which I had not been aware. They 延長する about sixty miles from S.S.E. to N.N.W. and are frequently six to eight miles 幅の広い, they are however hemmed in by scrubby country to the west, to the south, and to the east.

In 結論するing these 発言／述べるs I shall 追加する the agreeable 知能 that five of tho seven mules which I lost at 頂点（に達する） 範囲 have made their 外見 at Darling 負かす／撃墜するs, after having travelled six hundred miles by themselves, and have been duly 安全な・保証するd by the stockmen of Mr. Gogg and young Mr. Headley, to whom I feel 深く，強烈に 強いるd for their exertions.
