DEAR FRIEND,--Inclosed you will find some 部分s of the diary it has been my life-long custom to keep, arranged in such a manner as to narrate connectedly the history of some remarkable occurrences that have taken place here during the last three years. Years and years ago, I heard vague accounts of a strange lake high up in an almost inaccessible part of the mountains of Wyoming. さまざまな incredible tales were 関係のある of it, such as that it was 住むd by creatures which どこかよそで on the globe are 設立する only as 化石s of a long 消えるd time.

The lake and its surroundings are of 火山の origin, and not the least strange thing about the lake is that it is 支配する to periodic 騒動s, which take the form of a mighty boiling in the centre, as if a tremendous artesian 井戸／弁護士席 were 急ぐing up there from the bowels of the earth. The lake rises for a time, almost filling the 水盤／入り江 of 黒人／ボイコット 激しく揺するs in which it 残り／休憩（する）s, and then recedes, leaving on the shores mollusks and trunks of strange trees and bits of strange ferns which no longer grow--on the earth, at least--and are to be seen どこかよそで only in coal 対策 and beds of 石／投石する. And he who casts hook and line into the dusky waters, may 運ぶ／漁獲高 前へ／外へ, ganoid fishes 完全に covered with bony plates.

All of this is 述べるd in the account written by Father LaMetrie years ago, and he there 前進するs the theory that the earth is hollow, and that its 内部の is 住むd by the forms of 工場／植物 and animal life which disappeared from its surface ages ago, and that the lake connects with this 内部の 地域. Symmes' theory of polar orifices is 井戸／弁護士席 known to you. It is amply 確認するd. I know that it is true now. Through the 広大な／多数の／重要な 穴を開けるs at the 政治家s, the sun sends light and heat into the 内部の.

Three years ago this month, I 設立する my way through the mountains here to Lake LaMetrie …を伴ってd by a 選び出す／独身 companion, our friend, young Edward Framingham. He was led to go with me not so much by 科学の fervor, as by a faint hope that his health might be 改善するd by a sojourn in the mountains, for he 苦しむd from an 激烈な／緊急の form of dyspepsia that at times drove him frantic.

Beneath an overhanging scarp of the 塀で囲む of 激しく揺する surrounding the lake, we 設立する a rudely-built 石／投石する-house left by the old cliff dwellers. Though somewhat draughty, it would keep out the infrequent rains of the 地域, and serve 井戸／弁護士席 enough as a 避難所 for the short time which we ーするつもりであるd to stay.

The 抽出するs from my diary follow: APRIL 29TH, 1896.

I have been 占領するd during the past few days in 集会 見本／標本s of the さまざまな 工場／植物s which are cast upon the shore by the waves of this remarkable lake. Framingham does nothing but fish, and （人命などを）奪う，主張するs that he has discovered the place where the lake communicates with the 内部の of the earth, if, indeed, it does, and there seems to be little 疑問 of that. While fishing at a point 近づく the centre of the lake, he let 負かす／撃墜する three pickerel lines tied together, in all nearly three hundred feet, without finding 底（に届く）. Coming 岸に, he collected every bit of line, string, ひもで縛る, and rope in our 所有／入手, and made a line five hundred feet long, and still he was unable to find the 底（に届く）. MAY 2ND, EVENING.

The past three days have been profitably spent in 安全な・保証するing 見本／標本s, and 開始するing and pickling them for 保護. Framingham has had a bad attack of dyspepsia this morning and is not very 井戸／弁護士席. Change of 気候 had a 簡潔な／要約する 影響 for the better upon his malady, but seems to have exhausted its 軍隊 much sooner than one would have 推定する／予想するd, and he lies on his couch of 乾燥した，日照りの water-少しのd, moaning piteously. I shall take him 支援する to civilisation as soon as he is able to be moved.

It is very annoying to have to leave when I have scarcely begun to 調査（する） the mysteries of the place. I wish Framingham had not come with me. The lake is roaring wildly without, which is strange, as it has been perfectly 静める hitherto, and still more strange because I can neither feel nor hear the 急ぐing of the 勝利，勝つd, though perhaps that is because it is blowing from the south, and we are 保護するd from it by the cliff. But in that 事例／患者 there せねばならない be no waves on this shore. The roaring seems to grow louder momentarily. Framingham----MAY 3RD, MORNING.

Such a night of terror we have been through. Last evening, as I sat 令状ing in my diary, I heard a sudden hiss, and, looking 負かす／撃墜する, saw wriggling across the earthen 床に打ち倒す what I at first took to be a serpent of some 肉親，親類d, and then discovered was a stream of water which, coming in 接触する with the 解雇する／砲火／射撃, had 原因（となる）d the startling hiss. In a moment, other streams had darted in, and before I had collected my senses enough to move, the water was two インチs 深い everywhere and 刻々と rising.

Now I knew the 原因（となる） of the roaring, and, rousing Framingham, I half dragged him, half carried him to the door, and digging our feet into the chinks of the 塀で囲む of the house, we climbed up to its 最高の，を越す. There was nothing else to do, for above us and behind us was the unscalable cliff, and on each 味方する the ground sloped away 速く, and it would have been impossible to reach the high ground at the 入り口 to the 水盤／入り江.

After a time we lighted matches, for with all this commotion there was little 空気／公表する stirring, and we could see the water, now half-way up the 味方する of the house, 急ぐing to the west with the 軍隊 and velocity of the 現在の of a mighty river, and every little while it 投げつけるd tree-trunks against the house-塀で囲むs with a terrific shock that 脅すd to 乱打する them 負かす／撃墜する. After an hour or so, the roaring began to 減少（する）, and finally there was an 絶対の silence. The water, which reached to within a foot of where we sat, was at 残り／休憩（する）, neither rising nor 落ちるing.

Presently a faint whispering began and became a stertorous breathing, and then a 急ぐing like that of the 勝利，勝つd and a roaring 速く 増加するing in 容積／容量, and the lake was in 動議 again, but this time the water and its 渦巻くing freight of tree-trunks flowed by the house toward the east, and was 絶えず 落ちるing, and out in the centre of the lake the beams of the moon were darkly 反映するd by the 味方するs of a 抱擁する whirlpool, streaking the surface of polished blackness 負かす／撃墜する, 負かす／撃墜する, 負かす／撃墜する the vortex into the beginning of whose terrible depths we looked from our high perch.

This morning the lake is 支援する at its usual level. Our mules are 溺死するd, our boat destroyed, our food 損失d, my 見本／標本s and some of my 器具s 負傷させるd, and Framingham is very ill. We shall have to 出発／死 soon, although I dislike exceedingly to do so, as the 騒動 of last night, which is 明確に like the one 述べるd by Father LaMetrie, has undoubtedly brought up from the bowels of the earth some strange and 利益／興味ing things. Indeed, out in the middle of the lake where the whirlpool 沈下するd, I can see a large 量 of floating things; スピードを出す／記録につけるs and 支店s, most of them probably, but who knows what else?

Through my glass I can see a tree-trunk, or rather stump, of enormous dimensions. From its width I 裁判官 that the whole tree must have been as large as some of the Californian big trees. The main part of it appears to be about ten feet wide and thirty feet long. 事業／計画（する）ing from it and lying 傾向がある on the water is a 四肢, or root, some fifteen feet long, and perhaps two or three feet 厚い. Before we leave, which will be as soon as Framingham is able to go, I shall make a raft and visit the 集まり of driftwood, unless the 勝利，勝つd providentially sends it 岸に. MAY 4TH, EVENING.

A day of most remarkable and wonderful occurrences. When I arose this morning and looked through my glass, I saw that the 集まり of driftwood still lay in the middle of the lake, motionless on the glassy surface, but the 広大な／多数の／重要な 黒人／ボイコット stump had disappeared. I was sure it was not hidden by the 残り／休憩（する） of the driftwood, for yesterday it lay some distance from the other スピードを出す／記録につけるs, and there had been no 騒動 of 勝利，勝つd or water to change its position. I therefore 結論するd that it was some 激しい 支持を得ようと努めるd that needed to become but わずかに waterlogged to 原因（となる） it to 沈む.

Framingham having fallen asleep at about ten, I sallied 前へ／外へ to look along the shores for 見本／標本s, carrying with me a botanical can, and a South American machete, which I have 所有するd since a visit to Brazil three years ago, where I learned the usefulness of this sabre-like thing. The shore was strewn with bits of strange 工場／植物s and 爆撃するs, and I was stooping to 選ぶ one up, when suddenly I felt my 着せる／賦与するs plucked, and heard a snap behind me, and turning about I saw--but I won't 述べる it until I tell what I did, for I did not 公正に／かなり see the terrible creature until I had swung my machete 一連の会議、交渉／完成する and sliced off the 最高の，を越す of its 長，率いる, and then 宙返り／暴落するd 負かす／撃墜する into the shallow water where I lay almost fainting.

Here was the 黒人／ボイコット スピードを出す／記録につける I had seen in the middle of the lake, a monstrous elasmosaurus, and high above me on the heap of 激しく揺するs lay the thing's 長，率いる with its long jaws （人が）群がるd with sabre-like teeth, and its enormous 注目する，もくろむs as big as saucers. I wondered that it did not move, for I 推定する／予想するd a 一連の convulsions, but no sound of a commotion was heard from the creature's 団体／死体, which lay out of my sight on the other 味方する of the 激しく揺するs. I decided that my sudden 削減（する） had 行為／法令／行動するd like a 素晴らしい blow and produced a sort of 昏睡, and 恐れるing lest the beast should 回復する the use of its muscles before death fully took place, and in its agony roll away into the 深い water where I could not 安全な・保証する it, I あわてて 除去するd the brain 完全に, 成し遂げるing the 操作／手術 neatly, though with some trepidation, and 回復するing to the 長，率いる the detached segment 削減（する） off by my machete, I proceeded to 診察する my prize.

In length of 団体／死体, it is 正確に／まさに twenty-eight feet. In the widest part it is eight feet through laterally, and is some six feet through from 支援する to belly. Four 広大な／多数の／重要な flippers, rudimentary 武器 and feet, and an immensely long, sinuous, swan-like neck, 完全にする the creature's 団体／死体. Its 長，率いる is very small for the size of the 団体／死体 and is very 一連の会議、交渉／完成する and a pair of long jaws 事業／計画（する） in 前線 much like a duck's 法案. Its 肌 is a leathery integument of a lustrous 黒人／ボイコット, and its 注目する，もくろむs are enormous hazel 視覚のs with a soft, melancholy 星／主役にする in their liquid depths. It is an elasmosaurus, one of the largest of antediluvian animals. Whether of the same 種類 as those whose bones have been discovered, I cannot say.

My examination finished, I 急いでd after Framingham, for I was 確かな that this waif from a long past age would 誘発する almost any 無効の. I 設立する him somewhat 回復するd from his attack of the morning, and he 熱望して …を伴ってd me to the elasmosaurus. In 診察するing the animal afresh, I was astonished to find that its heart was still （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域ing and that all the 機能（する）／行事s of the 団体／死体 except thought were 存在 成し遂げるd one hour after the thing had received its death blow, but I knew that the hearts of sharks, have been known to （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域 hours after 存在 除去するd from the 団体／死体, and that decapitated frogs live, and have all the 力／強力にするs of 動議, for weeks after their 長，率いるs have been 削減（する） off.

I 除去するd the 最高の，を越す of the 長，率いる to look into it and here another surprise を待つd me, for the 辛勝する／優位s of the 負傷させる were granulating and 準備するing to 傷をいやす／和解させる. The colour of the 内部の of the skull was perfectly healthy and natural, there was no undue flow of 血, and there was every 証拠 that the animal ーするつもりであるd to get 井戸／弁護士席 and live without a brain. Looking at the 内部の of the skull, I was struck by its resemblance to a human skull; in fact, it is, as nearly as I can 裁判官, the size and 形態／調整 of the brain-pan of an ordinary man who wears a seven and an eighth hat. 診察するing the brain itself, I 設立する it to be the size of an ordinary human brain, and singularly like it in general contour, though it is very inferior in fibre and has few convolutions. MAY 5TH, MORNING.

Framingham is exceedingly ill and 会談 of dying, 宣言するing that if a natural death does not put an end to his sufferings, he will commit 自殺. I do not know what to do. All my 試みる／企てるs to encourage him are of no avail, and the few 薬／医学s I have no longer fit his 事例／患者 at all. MAY 5TH, EVENING.

I have just buried Framingham's 団体／死体 in the sand of the lake shore. I 成し遂げるd no 儀式s over the 墓／厳粛／彫る／重大な, for perhaps the real Framingham is not dead, though such 憶測 seems utterly wild. To-morrow I shall 築く a cairn upon the 塚, unless indeed there are 調印するs that my 実験 is successful, though it is foolish to hope that it will be.

At ten this morning, Framingham's qualms left him, and he 始める，決める 前へ／外へ with me to see the elasmosaurus. The creature lay in the place where we left it yesterday, its position unaltered, still breathing, all the bodily 機能（する）／行事s 成し遂げるing themselves. The 負傷させる in its 長，率いる had 傷をいやす／和解させるd a 広大な／多数の／重要な 取引，協定 during the night, and I daresay will be 完全に 傷をいやす／和解させるd within a week or so, such is the rapidity with which these reptilian organisms 修理 損害賠償金 to themselves. Collecting three or four bushels of mussels, I 爆撃するd them and 注ぐd them 負かす／撃墜する the elasmosaurus's throat. With a convulsive gasp, they passed 負かす／撃墜する and the 広大な／多数の／重要な mouth slowly の近くにd.

"How long do you 推定する／予想する to keep the reptile alive?" asked Framingham.

"Until I have gotten word to a number of 科学の friends, and they have come here to 診察する it. I shall take you to the nearest 解決／入植地 and 令状 letters from there. Returning, I shall 料金d the elasmosaurus 定期的に until my friends come, and we decide what final disposition to make of it. We shall probably stuff it."

"But you will have trouble in 殺人，大当り it, unless you 切り開く／タクシー／不正アクセス it to pieces, and that won't do. Oh, if I only had the vitality of that animal. There is a monster whose vitality is so splendid that the 除去 of its brain does not 乱す it. I should feel very happy if someone would 除去する my 団体／死体. If I only had some of that beast's useless strength."

"In your 事例／患者, the 所有／入手 of a too active brain has 負傷させるd the 団体／死体," said I. "Too much brain 演習 and too little bodily 演習 are the 原因（となる）s of your trouble. It would be a pleasant thing if you had the 強健な health of the elasmosaurus, but what a wonderful thing it would be if that mighty engine had your 知能."

I turned away to 診察する the reptile's 負傷させるs, for I had brought my surgical 器具s with me, and ーするつもりであるd to dress them. I was interrupted by a burst of groans from Framingham and turning, beheld him rolling on the sand in an agony. I 急いでd to him, but before I could reach him, he 掴むd my 事例／患者 of 器具s, and taking the largest and はっきりした knife, 削減（する） his throat from ear to ear.

"Framingham, Framingham," I shouted and, to my astonishment, he looked at me intelligently. I 解任するd the 事例／患者 of the French doctor who, for some minutes after 存在 guillotined, answered his friends by winking.

"If you hear me, wink," I cried. The 権利 注目する，もくろむ の近くにd and opened with a snap. Ah, here the 団体／死体 was dead and the brain lived. I ちらりと見ることd at the elasmosaurus. Its mouth, half の近くにd over its gleaming teeth, seemed to smile an 招待. The 知能 of the man and the strength of the brain. The living 団体／死体 and the living brain. The curious resemblance of the reptile's brain-pan to that of a man flashed across my mind.

"Are you still alive, Framingham?"

The 権利 注目する，もくろむ winked. I 掴むd my machete, for there was no time for delicate 器具s. I might destroy all by haste and roughness, I was sure to destroy all by 延期する. I opened the skull and 公表する／暴露するd the brain. I had not 負傷させるd it, and breaking the 負傷させる of the elasmosaurus's 長，率いる, placed the brain within. I dressed the 負傷させる and, hurrying to the house, brought all my 蓄える／店 of 興奮剤s and 治めるd them.

For years the 医療の fraternity has been 予報するing that brain-汚職，収賄ing will some time be 首尾よく 遂行するd. Why has it never been 首尾よく 遂行するd? Because it has not been tried. 明白に, a brain from a dead 団体／死体 cannot be used and what living man would 服従させる／提出する to the horrible 過程 of having his 長，率いる opened, and 部分s of his brain taken for the use of others?

The brains of men are frequently 診察するd when 負傷させるd and parts of the brain 除去するd, but parts of the brains of other men have never been 代用品，人d for the parts 除去するd. No uninjured man has ever been 設立する who would give any 部分 of his brain for the use of another. Until 犯罪のs under 宣告，判決 of death are 手渡すd over to science for experimentation, we shall not know what can be done in the way of brain-汚職，収賄ing. But public opinion would never 許す it.

条件s are favourable for a fair and 徹底的な 裁判，公判 of my 実験. The 天候 is 冷静な／正味の and even, and the 負傷させる in the 長，率いる of the elasmosaurus has every chance for 傷をいやす／和解させるing. The animal 所有するs a vitality superior to any of our later day animals, and if any organism can 首尾よく become the host of a foreign brain, nourishing and 心にいだくing it, the elasmosaurus with its abundant 決定的な 軍隊s can do it. It may be that a new 時代 in the history of the world will begin here. MAY 6TH, NOON.

I think I will 許す my 実験 a little more time. MAY 7TH, NOON.

It cannot be imagination. I am sure that as I looked into the elasmosaurus's 注目する，もくろむs this morning there was 表現 in them. 薄暗い, it is true, a sort of mistiness that floats over them like the reflection of passing clouds. MAY 8TH, NOON.

I am more sure than yesterday that there is 表現 in the 注目する，もくろむs, a look of troubled 恐れる, such as is seen in the 注目する，もくろむs of those who dream nightmares with unclosed lids. MAY 11TH, EVENING.

I have been ill, and have not seen the elasmosaurus for three days, but I shall be better able to 裁判官 the 進歩 of the 実験 by remaining away a period of some duration. MAY 12TH, NOON.

I am 打ち勝つ with awe as I realise the success that has so far 栄冠を与えるd my 実験. As I approached the elasmosaurus this morning, I noticed a faint 騒動 in the water 近づく its flippers. I 慎重に 調査／捜査するd, 推定する／予想するing to discover some fishes nibbling at the helpless monster, and saw that the commotion was not 予定 to fishes, but to the flippers themselves, which were feebly moving.

"Framingham, Framingham," I bawled at the 最高の，を越す of my 発言する／表明する. The 広大な 本体，大部分／ばら積みの stirred a little, a very little, but enough to notice. Is the brain, or Framingham, it would perhaps be better to say, asleep, or has he failed to 設立する 関係 with the 団体／死体? Undoubtedly he has not yet 設立するd 関係 with the 団体／死体, and this of itself would be 同等（の） to sleep, to unconsciousness. As a man born with 非，不，無 of the senses would be unconscious of himself, so Framingham, just beginning to 設立する 関係s with his new 団体／死体, is only dimly conscious of himself and sleeps. I fed him, or it--which is the proper 任命 will be decided in a few days--with the usual allowance. MAY 17TH, EVENING.

I have been ill for the past three days, and have not been out of doors until this morning. The elasmosaurus was still motionless when I arrived at the cove this morning. Dead, I thought; but I soon （悪事，秘密などを）発見するd 調印するs of breathing, and I began to 準備する some mussels for it, and was 意図 upon my 仕事, when I heard a slight, gasping sound, and looked up. A feeling of terror 掴むd me. It was as if in 返答 to some 疑問ing incantations there had appeared the half-願望（する）d, yet wholly-恐れるd and 予期しない apparition of a fiend. I shrieked, I 叫び声をあげるd, and the amphitheatre of 激しく揺するs echoed and re-echoed my cries, and all the time the 長，率いる of the elasmosaurus raised aloft to the 十分な 高さ of its neck, swayed about unsteadily, and its mouth silently struggled and 新たな展開d, as if in an 試みる／企てる to form words, while its 注目する，もくろむs looked at me now with wild 恐れる and now with piteous intreaty.

"Framingham," I said.

The monster's mouth の近くにd 即時に, and it looked at me attentively, pathetically so, as a dog might look.

"Do you understand me?"

The mouth began struggling again, and little gasps and moans 問題／発行するd 前へ／外へ.

"If you understand me, lay your 長，率いる on the 激しく揺する."

負かす／撃墜する （機の）カム the 長，率いる. He understood me. My 実験 was a success. I sat for a moment in silence, meditating upon the wonderful 事件／事情／状勢, 努力する／競うing to realise that I was awake and sane, and then began in a 静める manner to relate to my friend what had taken place since his 試みる／企てるd 自殺.

"You are at 現在の something in the 条件 of a 部分的な／不平等な paralytic, I should 裁判官," said I, as I 結論するd my account. "Your mind has not yet learned to 命令（する） your new 団体／死体. I see you can move your 長，率いる and neck, though with difficulty. Move your 団体／死体 if you can. Ah, you cannot, as I thought. But it will all come in time. Whether you will ever be able to talk or not, I cannot say, but I think so, however. And now if you cannot, we will arrange some means of communication. Anyhow, you are rid of your human 団体／死体 and 所有するd of the powerful 決定的な apparatus you so much envied its former owner. When you 伸び（る） 支配（する）／統制する of yourself, I wish you to find the communication between this lake and the under-world, and 行為／行う some 探検s. Just think of the 新規加入s to 地質学の knowledge you can make. I will 令状 an account of your 発見, and the 指名するs of Framingham and McLennegan will be の中で those of the greatest geologists."

I waved my 手渡すs in my enthusiasm, and the 広大な／多数の／重要な 注目する，もくろむs of my friend glowed with a kindred 解雇する／砲火／射撃. JUNE 2ND, NIGHT.

The 過程 by which Framingham has passed from his first powerlessness to his 現在の ability to speak, and 命令（する） the use of his corporeal でっちあげる，人を罪に陥れる, has been so 漸進的な that there has been nothing to 公式文書，認める 負かす／撃墜する from day to day. He seems to have all the 命令（する） over his 広大な 本体，大部分／ばら積みの that its former owner had, and in 新規加入 speaks and sings. He is singing now. The north 勝利，勝つd has risen with the 落ちる of night, and out there in the 不明瞭 I hear the mighty 組織／臓器 麻薬を吸う-トンs of his tremendous, magnificent 発言する／表明する, 詠唱するing the solemn 公式文書，認めるs of the Gregorian, the 十分な throated Latin words mingling with the roaring of the 勝利，勝つd in a wild and weird harmony.

To-day he 試みる／企てるd to find the 関係 between the lake and the 内部の of the earth, but the 広大な／多数の／重要な 井戸／弁護士席 that 沈むs 負かす／撃墜する in the centre of the lake is choked with 激しく揺するs and he has discovered nothing. He is tormented by the 恐れる that I will leave him, and that he will 死なせる／死ぬ of loneliness. But I shall not leave him. I feel too much pity for the loneliness he would 耐える, and besides, I wish to be on the 位置／汚点／見つけ出す should another of those mysterious convulsions open the 関係 between the lake and the lower world.

He is beset with the idea that should other men discover him, he may be 逮捕（する）d and 展示（する）d in a circus or museum, and 宣言するs that he will fight for his liberty even to the extent of taking the lives of those 試みる／企てるing to 逮捕（する） him. As a wild animal, he is the 所有物／資産／財産 of whomsoever 逮捕（する）s him, though perhaps I can 始める，決める up a 肩書を与える to him on the ground of having tamed him. JULY 6TH.

One of Framingham's 恐れるs has been realised. I was at the pass 主要な into the 水盤／入り江, watching the clouds grow 激しい and pendulous 逮捕する appear over a knoll in the pass, followed by its 持参人払いの, a small man, unmistakably a scientist, but I did not 公式文書，認める him 井戸／弁護士席, for as he looked 負かす／撃墜する into the valley, suddenly there burst 前へ／外へ with all the 力／強力にする and 容積／容量 of a steam calliope, the tremendous 発言する／表明する of Framingham, singing a Greek song of Anacreon to the tune of "Where did you get that hat?" and the singer appeared in a little cove, the 黒人／ボイコット column of his 広大な／多数の／重要な neck raised aloft, his jagged jaws wide open.

That poor little scientist. He stood transfixed, his バタフライ 逮捕する dropped from his 手渡す, and as Framingham 中止するd his singing, curvetted and leaped from the water and （機の）カム 負かす／撃墜する with a splash that 始める，決める the whole cove swashing, and laughed a guffaw that echoed の中で the cliffs like the laughing of a dozen demons, he turned and sped through the pass at all 速度(を上げる）.

I skip all 入ること／参加（者）s for nearly a year. They are unimportant.

JUNE 30TH, 1897.

A change is certainly coming over my friend. I began to see it some time ago, but 辞退するd to believe it and 始める，決める it 負かす／撃墜する to imagination. A 大災害 脅すs, the absorption of the human intellect by the brute 団体／死体. There are precedents for believing it possible. The human 団体／死体 has more 影響（力） over the mind than the mind has over the 団体／死体. The 無効の, delicate Framingham with 精製するd mind, is no more. In his stead is a roistering monster, whose boisterous and commonplace conversation betrays a 絶えず growing coarseness of mind.

No longer is he 利益／興味d in my 科学の 調査s, but pronounces them all bosh. No longer is his conversation such as an educated man can enjoy, but slangy and diffuse iterations 関心ing the trivial happenings of our uneventful life. Where will it end? In the absorption of the human mind by the brute 団体／死体? In the final 勝利 of 事柄 over mind and the degradation of the most mundane 軍隊 and the 絶滅 of the celestial 誘発する? Then, indeed, will Edward Framingham be dead, and over the 墓／厳粛／彫る／重大な of his human 団体／死体 can I fittingly 築く a headstone, and then will my 徹夜 in this valley be over. FORT D. A. RUSSELL, WYOMING.

DEAR SIR,--the inclosed 損なわれていない manuscript and the fragments which …を伴って it, （機の）カム into my 所有／入手 in the manner I am about to relate and I inclose them to you, for whom they were ーするつもりであるd by their late author. 観察するing us, it stretched its jaws and laughed, and in 説 this, I wish to be taken literally. Part of my 命令（する） cried out that it was the devil, and turned and ran. But I 決起大会／結集させるd them, and 完全に enraged at what we had 証言，証人／目撃するd, we marched 負かす／撃墜する to the shore, and I ordered the りゅう弾砲s to be trained upon the murderous creature. While we were doing this, the thing kept up a constant blabbing that bore a 際立った resemblance to human speech, sounding very much like the jabbering of an imbecile, or a drunk trying to talk. I gave the 命令（する） to 解雇する／砲火／射撃 and to 解雇する／砲火／射撃 again, and the beast tore out into the lake in its death-agony, and sank.

With the remains of Dr. McLennegan, I 設立する the foregoing manuscript 損なわれていない, and the torn fragments of the diary from which it was 収集するd, together with other papers on 科学の 支配するs, all of which I 今後. I think some 試みる／企てる should be made to 安全な・保証する the 団体／死体 of the elasmosaurus. It would be a priceless 新規加入 to any museum.
