The Tiger's 注目する，もくろむ: A ジャングル Fairy Tale

This is a fairy tale of Pocofo, which is an island of the South Seas, where the people are 黒人／ボイコット and have never heard of telephones or chocolate caramels.

One half the Island of Pocofo is a dense ジャングル, filled with wild beasts which devour one another when they cannot get 黒人／ボイコット people to eat. The other half of the island is 住むd by warring tribes of natives who fight and 略奪する each other when they are not 追跡（する）ing the wild beasts.

So it is not very 平和的な in Pocofo, and I have often wondered how the 少しの brown children and baby animals manage to grow up where they are surrounded by so many dangers.

But they do grow up, and become strong men and women and 猛烈な／残忍な beasts. They take their part in the wars and worries of their day.

Once on a time a baby tiger was born in the ジャングル, and it was 設立する to be blind in one 注目する，もくろむ.

The father and mother tiger loved their baby and were sorry it had but one 注目する，もくろむ to see with.

"The 黒人／ボイコット people may easily kill our darling," said the mother, "for when they approach it on the blind 味方する it cannot see them."

"The ヒョウs and lions will do the same," 追加するd the father tiger, sadly. "We really need three or four 注目する，もくろむs, to be able to watch all our enemies, and one 注目する，もくろむ is no 保護 for a baby tiger at all."

So they decided something must be done, and 解決するd to visit a 魔法-製造者 who lived 近づく the 辛勝する／優位 of the ジャングル.

This 魔法-製造者 had the heart of a beast and the form of a man. He understood the language spoken by the animals and that spoken by the 黒人／ボイコット men, and he served anyone who brought him 支払い（額） for his 魔法. So the father and mother tigers took their baby to the straw hut in which Nog the 魔法-製造者 lived, and told him they must have another 注目する，もくろむ for their darling one.

"A glass 注目する，もくろむ?" asked Nog.

"No; one that can see," was the reply.

"That is impossible," 宣言するd the 魔法-製造者. "I have much 知恵, and かなりの 技術 in 魔法, but I cannot give your baby an 注目する，もくろむ that will see."

"Is there 絶対 no way it can be done?" enquired the mother, in a grieved and disappointed 発言する／表明する.

"Oh, there is one way," said Nog, carelessly. "I could transform myself into an 注目する，もくろむ that could see; but in that 事例／患者 I would destroy my own form forever and become helpless except as an 注目する，もくろむ."

"Therefore, as I said, the thing is impossible."

"It may be from your point of 見解（をとる）," growled the father tiger; "but to us it is more important that our baby has the 注目する，もくろむ than that you continue to live in your 現在の form—an unlovely 形態／調整 at the best. So we 主張する upon your transforming yourself into an 注目する，もくろむ."

"Nonsense!" exclaimed Nog, beginning to be 脅すd. "You don't suppose I'll 同意 to destroy myself for your foolish whim, do you?"

"Not willingly," 認める the tiger. "But here is the 代案／選択肢; either you transform yourself into an 注目する，もくろむ for our child, or I and my dear wife will 涙／ほころび you into shreds."

The 魔法-製造者, 審理，公聴会 this dreadful 脅し, looked around for a way to escape. But the mother tiger was crouched on one 味方する of him and the father tiger upon the other, while the baby tiger was glaring hungrily at Nog with its one 注目する，もくろむ, as if longing to eat him.

Nog was a wise man. He knew that tigers were merciless and had little 尊敬（する）・点 for 魔法-製造者s—-or anything else, for that 事柄. So he thought over this uncomfortable 代案／選択肢 and decided it would 原因（となる） him extreme 苦痛 to be torn to shreds by sharp tiger claws and teeth, 反して it would not 傷つける at all to transform himself into an 注目する，もくろむ. Moreover, as an 注目する，もくろむ he would still be alive, with a faint—a very faint—hope that some day he might be saved, 反して to be torn into shreds would kill him in the 操作／手術.

"I will have 復讐 if you make me do this dreadful thing," he 脅すd.

"We are 決定するd to make you do it," 宣言するd the father tiger. "What do we care for your 復讐?"

Finding escape impossible Nog heaved a 深い sigh and transformed himself into an 注目する，もくろむ. It was just like a tiger's 注目する，もくろむ and it hopped into the empty eyesocket in the baby tiger's 直面する and rolled around with a 猛烈な／残忍な and wicked 表現, for the 魔法-製造者 was angry because he had been 罠にかける and transformed against his will.

All the way home the baby tiger leaped here and there about the ジャングル, growling ferociously and never at 残り／休憩（する）. It even snarled at its mother when she tried to 静かな it. And the very next day the child 砂漠d the safety of the lair where it was born and wandered through the ジャングル in search of prey.

So sharp and far-seeing was the new 注目する，もくろむ that nothing escaped it, and so 猛烈な／残忍な was the temper of the wearer that the baby tiger boldly attacked animals twice its own size and 敗北・負かすd them all.

It could not devour all the 殺害された, so the 団体／死体s of the young tiger's 犠牲者s littered all the ジャングル, and the animals complained 激しく of this awful 破壊. One of the 法律s of the ジャングル is that no animal may kill except for food, yet here was the baby tiger 殺人，大当り for the wicked sport of 殺人. The animals straightway 非難するd the 殺害者 and banded together to destroy the tiger which wore Nog the 魔法-製造者 for an 注目する，もくろむ.

But the baby tiger 避けるd the stronger beasts and 征服する／打ち勝つd the 女性 ones. 合間 it grew wonderfully until it became a 十分な sized tiger and a greater terror to the ジャングル folk than ever. One day it savagely fought its own father, who barely escaped with his life.

By this time the animals had become so angry and annoyed that they 宣言するd war upon the lawless tiger. They formed their army in line of 戦う／戦い and 追跡（する）d the 無法者 through the ジャングル till he was 軍隊d to 飛行機で行く to that part of the island where the 黒人／ボイコット people lived.

Here the tiger's 計画（する） was to 嘘（をつく） hidden by day and prowl over the country at night, 殺人，大当り all with whom he met. The people began to 恐れる this enemy more than all the other animals of the ジャングル, yet few were 勇敢に立ち向かう enough to 直面する the ferocious beast. These few he usually 後継するd in 殺人，大当り before the fight was over.

Terror filled all the land and mothers kept their children in the huts so the cruel tiger could not find them.

Titticontoo was the little son of a native chieftain, and some time, if he lived to grow up, would 支配する a thousand 黒人／ボイコット men himself. He was a pretty child, with sparkling brown 注目する，もくろむs and soft hair, and he laughed all day at his play, 存在 joyous of heart and やめる happy.

Titticontoo did not know the meaning of 着せる／賦与するs. He wore a cloth around his middle, woven of cocoanut fibre, but aside from that his little brown 団体／死体 was 明らかにする both night and day. He had no toys, so his only playthings were a small spear and a 屈服する and arrows. With these he learned to skillfully shoot small birds, and so lithe were his muscles that he won every leaping and running contest from the other boys. He swam in the streams as nimbly as a fish. He said little and thought much. All the 黒人／ボイコット people loved him because he was so smiling and cheerful, and Titticontoo loved his people in return and was generous and 肉親，親類d to all.

About the time the 猛烈な／残忍な tiger made its 外見 in the land the boy's mother began to keep him shut up in the hut, 恐れるing he might be killed. And at about the same time a horde of strange 軍人s from some unknown distant island landed on the coast of Pocofo and began to 燃やす and 殺す and 略奪する wherever they went. So all the 黒人／ボイコット men, 長，率いるd by the chieftain who was Titticontoo's father, marched away to fight these strangers, while the women stayed at home to 保護する the children from the dreadful tiger.

One afternoon, as Titticontoo sat upon the 床に打ち倒す of the hut playing with his little spear, a 猛烈な／残忍な growl was heard and suddenly there bounded into the room a 広大な／多数の／重要な tiger. Its teeth were terrible to look at and its 明らかにするd claws might 井戸／弁護士席 make the bravest shudder. One of its 注目する，もくろむs—the left one—rolled with a glare so wicked and cruel that Titticontoo's mother 叫び声をあげるd and fainted with 恐れる.

The boy, with the spear clutched in his little 手渡す, sat still and looked at his enemy. The tiger snarled and crouched for a spring. Then its lean yellow 団体／死体 発射 今後, the dreadful claws 延長するd to clutch and rend its 犠牲者.

Titticontoo had never been afraid in his life, and he was not afraid now. He knew the tiger was dangerous and realized his mother had fainted and could not help him. So he must do his best to help himself. He 始める，決める one end of his spear against the ground and pointed the other—the sharp end—at the leaping tiger.

Next moment the beast was upon him. A blow from its sharp claw sent the boy 飛行機で行くing against the 塀で囲む of the hut and tore out his left 注目する，もくろむ, leaving two livid gashes on his cheek. But the spear pierced the heart of the tiger and it fell dead.

In spite of the 燃やすing 苦痛 in his 注目する，もくろむ the 勇敢に立ち向かう boy crept 今後 to 診察する his fallen enemy.

And then a strange thing happened. The 注目する，もくろむ that had once been the 魔法-製造者 popped out of the tiger's 長，率いる and popped into the 長，率いる of Titticontoo, where it took the place of the 注目する，もくろむ which had been torn out by the tiger's claw. For Nog was still alive, although he was now only an 注目する，もくろむ, and he realized there was no use in remaining in the 長，率いる of a dead tiger. He could do many more wicked and vengeful 行為s, he thought, if he was in the 長，率いる of the boy.

Strangely enough, Titticontoo's 苦痛 began to pass away as soon as the new 注目する，もくろむ popped into his 長，率いる. He was glad at first to have the 注目する，もくろむ to see with, for he did not know it would try to 影響（力） him to evil 行為s. When his mother 回復するd from her swoon she 設立する the tiger dead and Titticontoo trying to 包帯 the gashes in his cheek. The 注目する，もくろむ did not 苦痛 him at all now.

All the women in the village, 審理，公聴会 the glad news that the tiger was 殺害された, （機の）カム running to the hut to congratulate Titticontoo upon his bravery; but the boy returned surly and ungracious answers and seemed to have lost his old merry ways and his kindly disposition.

Just then a 禁止（する）d of the 黒人／ボイコット men （機の）カム running into the village to say their chieftain had been 敗北・負かすd and 殺害された by the invaders and telling the women and children to 飛行機で行く to the ジャングル or they would all be 逮捕（する）d and made slaves.

審理，公聴会 this Titticontoo sprang up 怒って and cried out:

"You are cowards—every man of you! How dare you be alive when your chieftain is dead?"

"Follow me, and do not 恐れる, for I will 敗北・負かす these strangers and 運動 them from our island."

"You! What can you do—you who are a mere boy?" asked the men, wonderingly.

"I have 殺害された the tiger," replied Titticontoo, pointing proudly to the 団体／死体 of the beast.

They were amazed at this masterful feat, and when they looked upon the boy they noticed that his left 注目する，もくろむ flashed in a cruel and ferocious manner that was terrible to see. So they 同意d to return to the fight with the boy as their leader, and in spite of his mother's wails and 抗議するs Titticontoo 掴むd his spear, pulled it from the tiger's heart, and with the 血 still dripping from the 武器 急ぐd away to lead his men.

They met the enemy not far from the village, and so bravely and 猛烈に did the boy fight that his 黒人／ボイコット men were encouraged and fought better by his 味方する than they had ever fought before. Presently the strangers who had 侵略するd the island became afraid and started to 逃げる, for they could not 耐える the awful gleam of the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ when it was turned upon them.

Titticontoo 追求するd his 敵, 殺人，大当り many with his spear and more with his 屈服する and arrows.

And when the strangers reached their boats they あわてて 宙返り／暴落するd into them and 列／漕ぐ／騒動d away home; nor did they ever dare to 侵略する Pocofo again.

Titticontoo returned with his 勝利を得た 軍人s to the village, where there was 広大な／多数の／重要な rejoicing.

Everyone 宣言するd he was the greatest chieftain and the fiercest 闘士，戦闘機 they had ever known; although he was but a boy.

Yet Titticontoo was strangely silent and ill at 緩和する. He retired from the feasting and merrymaking to his mother's hut, where a 広大な／多数の／重要な struggle took place in his heart.

存在 by nature 肉親，親類d and gentle the boy was alarmed to find himself so cruel and bloodthirsty as he had been in the 最近の fight. He had begun to hate even his own people, and when his mother entered the hut to speak with him he drove her out in a fit of 不当な 怒り／怒る.

"I know I am growing wicked and doing unmanly and 不正な things," said he to himself; "and I believe it is all because of the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ which is in my 長，率いる. I am becoming as 猛烈な／残忍な as the tiger was, and unless I pluck out this dreadful 注目する，もくろむ I shall soon be unable to resist its wicked 影響（力）. Then my life will be 廃虚d and my people and my friends come to hate me."

Titticontoo realized it would 傷つける dreadfully to pluck out the 注目する，もくろむ. He remembered the 燃やすing 苦痛 he had felt when his own 注目する，もくろむ was torn out. But after a 簡潔な／要約する struggle his gentle heart and true manly courage finally 勝利d. He suddenly clutched the 注目する，もくろむ with his fingers, pulled it out and cast it upon the 床に打ち倒す. Then he bore the 苦痛 courageously and bathed his 負傷させる in （疑いを）晴らす water and bound it up.

I am inclined to think this noble 行為／法令／行動する 証明するd what a 広大な／多数の／重要な chieftain Titticontoo really was. His good heart saved him from a dreadful 運命／宿命, for as soon as the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ was cast away he 回復するd his finer nature and all his old gentleness.

The boy was ill and in 苦痛 for several days. Then he slowly 回復するd and his 負傷させる 傷をいやす／和解させるd.

"Titticontoo, the One-注目する，もくろむd," he was always called after that; but every person on that island grew to love and 尊敬（する）・点 him. He is now known as the greatest chieftain of his race.

Oh; I must tell you what became of the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ.

For many days, while Titticontoo was ill, the 注目する，もくろむ lay upon the 床に打ち倒す of the hut, and no one dared to touch it. For it glared as ひどく now as ever, since the spirit of old Nog the 魔法-製造者 was still alive within it. And what do you suppose Nog thought all this time? He knew he had his 復讐 for 存在 強いるd to transform himself into an 注目する，もくろむ, yet perhaps he wondered anxiously what was to be his 未来 運命／宿命.

After a time the boy （機の）カム and looked at the 注目する，もくろむ, and its cruel 表現 made him shudder.

He was glad the evil thing was lying there upon the 床に打ち倒す instead of 存在 in his own 長，率いる; but it seemed alive, and he did not know what to do with it.

That night he cast it into the 解雇する／砲火／射撃; but when the embers had 燃やすd away there lay the 注目する，もくろむ の中で the ashes, as 有望な and watchful as ever. Then Titticontoo tried to stamp upon it, but it slipped from underneath his heel and remained uninjured.

The boy knew it would never do to leave the dreadful 注目する，もくろむ in his hut, where it would glare upon him 絶えず and watch with its 意図 gaze every movement he made. So he tied the thing to an arrow and 発射 the arrow from his 屈服する far into the 空気／公表する, in the direction of the ジャングル. For it was a tiger's 注目する，もくろむ, and the ジャングル was the home of tigers.

The arrow sailed far over the 絡まるd trees and then descended. It struck a dappled deer, ちらりと見ることing past its cheek and putting out the poor creature's left 注目する，もくろむ. The thing which Titticontoo had tied to the arrow became 緩和するd and rolled upon the ground; but as the deer stood trembling with terror and 苦痛 the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ suddenly popped into the place of the one which had been dislodged, and so the spirit of Nog the 魔法-製造者 設立する a new 残り／休憩（する）ing place.

It is said the deer is the most timid and 害のない of animals, but this creature now seemed 奮起させるd by a new and evil nature. It dashed away through the ジャングル, fighting every beast it met and transfixing its 犠牲者s upon its sharp horns with wicked glee. And all the while the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ glared viciously and thrilled the hearts of all who looked upon it with 恐れる and 狼狽.

Finally the demon deer, panting and exhausted by the desperate war it had 行うd upon its fellow creatures, reached a pool of water and bent its 長，率いる to drink.

Aha! That was just what old Nog the 魔法-製造者 had been looking for. Only one charm would 回復する him to his natural form: the tiger's 注目する，もくろむ must first be bathed in 解雇する／砲火／射撃 and then in water. Already Titticontoo had given it the 実験（する） of 解雇する／砲火／射撃, and now, as the deer bent over the pool, the 注目する，もくろむ which 含む／封じ込めるd the spirit of Nog dropped out of the deer's 長，率いる and fell into the water.

How wonderful these 魔法 charms are! Here in the shallow pool stood the old 魔法-製造者 himself, while the startled deer 叫び声をあげるd at sight of him and dashed into the forest.

The cry was heard by the father tiger, who stalked out of the thicket to find Nog 緊急発進するing from the water and grinning an evil grin of joy at 回復するing his natural form.

"Oh," said the father tiger, clicking his teeth together. "I believe I 借りがある you a 負債 for destroying my child. 準備する to die, 魔法-製造者!"

The yellow 団体／死体 made a spring, but Nog dodged it and sped away through the ジャングル, trying to reach the safety of his home. The father tiger followed in 追跡, and an 利益／興味ing race took place. 恐れる made the old wizard's feet to 飛行機で行く, and the tiger's leaps were long and swift, for his heart was bursting with 激怒（する） and 悲しみ.

近づく the 辛勝する／優位 of the ジャングル a vine tripped Nog and he fell flat upon his 直面する. An instant later the 広大な／多数の／重要な 団体／死体 of the tiger fell upon the 魔法-製造者—and so the story ends.

It is a fairy tale told me by a 黒人／ボイコット man who once lived on that same island of Pocofo.
