Eric Raymond's Open-Source 作品

For years before open source went mainstream, I was one of the few 十分な-time open-source hackers. I was one of the 初めの GNU contributors 支援する in the 中央の-1980s, and I've been at it ever since.

This directory 含む/封じ込めるs sources for standalone open-source 一括s I have either 起こる/始まるd or now 持続する.

All of this stuff is Unix sources unless explicitly 公式文書,認めるd さもなければ.

This is a 道具 for shipping static-checking requests to the Coverity public server. 扱うs all the 詳細(に述べる)s of running the Coverity 前線-end 道具. bundling up the 分析 results, shipping them, and submitting a 職業 card. Supports 多重の 事業/計画(する)s.

giflib

The ubiquitous service library for (判決などを)下すing GIFs. I 手渡すd off the 事業/計画(する) 1994 to 避ける problems with the U.S. 特許 system, but 受託するd 支援する the lead in 2012. This code had the 半端物 影響 of making me 事実上 omnipresent; it seems nobody has ever bothered to 令状 a 交替/補充, and it's now ubiquitous in web browsers, cellphones and gaming consoles. In a nicely ironic touch, it earned me an 外見 in the credits of the Microsoft XBox.

gif2png

This handy little converter turns GIF とじ込み/提出するs into PNG とじ込み/提出するs. With the 配当 you get a Python script that can be used to 変える an entire website, not only changing GIFs to PNGs but also patching HTML and PHP pages 適切な. GIFs no longer have dangerous 特許 problems, but PNG is still a better 判型.

sng

This 道具 enables you to decompile PNGs into an (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状)-保存するing .sng text 判型 that you can 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセス with a text editor. Then you can recompile the .sng 支援する to a .png — handy if you need to 追加する or edit some obscure ancillary PNG chunk that your graphics 道具s don't understand. Also handy if you want to 生成する PNGs programmatically using text 道具s.

imgsizer

This is a nifty little HTML authoring 道具 that will 生成する 訂正する Netscape-style WIDTH and HEIGHT parameters for each of your IMG tags on an HTML page. This will 許す the text 部分s of the page to 負担 much faster. 要求するs that you have either identify(1) or a 最近の とじ込み/提出する(1) and rdjpegcom(1) 任命する/導入するd. The RPM is architecture-独立した・無所属. 要求するs Python.

Documentation 道具s

doclifter

They said it was impossible. They said I was mad! 井戸/弁護士席, they were 権利 about the second part, but it really is possible to do 自動化するd 転換 from troff markups like man, ms, and me to SGML/XML. BWAHAHAHA!

xmlif

Useful Languages

CML2

I wrote a language for solving configuration problems. It has an embedded truth 維持/整備 system and can 扱う a 公正に/かなり rich 強制 language.

Useless Languages

器具/実施するing compilers for languages no one else is insane enough to touch with a ten-foot 政治家 is a hobby of 地雷. Here are some of the sickest jokes in the history of language design — one intentional, the others unintentional. Both 含む documentation and chrestomathies of code in their source languages.

INTERCAL

The most perverse language of all time. I didn't design INTERCAL, nor did I 令状 the classic and hilarious 手動式の 含むd here, but I 生き返らせるd the language with this compiler, which also features the first 実施 of COME FROM with malice aforethought. It 作品 by 生成するing and then 収集するing C. 要求するs lex or flex and either bison or yacc.

IEEE 操縦する

This 週末 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセス is a modern 実施 of IEEE 1154-1991, the 基準 for the PILOT language. The design of PILOT is horrifyingly bad, and the PILOT 基準 hardly an exemplar of good practice, but this 実施 was fun and 含むs some tricks that may be of 利益/興味 to serious compiler writers. Most 顕著に, it is both an interpreter for PILOT and a PILOT compiler. 要求するs lex and yacc.

CUPL

Another hideous old design, CUPL — Cornell University Programming Language. It looks something like a really archaic BASIC with linear-algebra builtins. I 逆転する-engineered this interpreter from the 手動式の, written in 1966; the language-description parts of the 手動式の are 含むd in the docs. In 1.1 I 追加するd support for CUPL's 即座の ancestor language, CORC. If you want to know what programming was like before interactive time-株ing, build this and find out. 要求するs either lex or flex, and bison or yacc.

MAD

This program is a work of reconstructive archeology, a compiler for the Michigan Algorithmic Decoder (MAD) language from 1962. It first translates MAD code into C, then uses the 地元の C compiler to make an executable binary. You will need Python and David Beazley's PLY module 任命する/導入するd to run it. A 完全にする transcription of the 1962 MAD 手動式の is 含むd.

If this sort of thing 利益/興味s you, I keep other intriguingly horrible languages at the Retrocomputing Museum.

Programming 道具s

tapview

A tiny, 無-dependency テレビ視聴者/filter for (TAP) 実験(する) Anything 議定書 written in pure POSIX 爆撃する. Designed to be lightewiight enough that you can just embed it ib yiur 事業/計画(する)'s 実験(する) directory.

netdiff

成し遂げる diff across 網状組織 links. Takes two arguments which may be host:path pairs in the style of ssh/scp, makes 一時的な 地元の copies as needed, 適用するs diff(1). All 選択s are passed to diff(1). 特に usefukl for comparing configuration durectories across machines.

ifdex

Find configuration 大型のs used in #ifdex/#ifndef/#elif lines. Searches a C or C++ code tree 試みる/企てるing to 報告(する)/憶測 a 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) of configuration 大型のs - that is, symbols 始める,決める by autoconf or some other confoguration-管理/経営 and/or build system during 収集するs. Also useful for catching 逸脱する and broken guard symbols.

deheader

deheader 分析するs C and C++ とじ込み/提出するs to 決定する which header 傾向s can be 除去するd while still 許すing them to 収集する. This may result in 相当な 改良s in 編集 time, 特に on large C++ 事業/計画(する)s; it also いつかs exposes dependencies and cohesions of which developers were unaware.

reposurgeon

reposurgeon enables risky 操作/手術s that 見解/翻訳/版-支配(する)/統制する systems don't want to let you do, such as editing past comments and metadata and 除去するing commits. It 作品 with any 見解/翻訳/版 支配(する)/統制する system that can 輸出(する) and 輸入する git 急速な/放蕩な-輸入する streams, 含むing git and hg and bzr.

git-weave

git-weave takes a tarball sequence and a metadata とじ込み/提出する and synthesizes a live repository. It can invert this, 爆発する git repositories into sequences of per-commit tarballs. The DAG is 表明するd as a metadata とじ込み/提出する with mailbox-like 入ること/参加(者)s.

cvs-急速な/放蕩な-輸出(する)

rcs-急速な/放蕩な-輸出(する) 組み立てる/集結するs changesets from the per-とじ込み/提出する changes in a CVS repository and can either 報告(する)/憶測 on them for human 注目する,もくろむs or ship the history as a git 急速な/放蕩な-輸入する stream. 初めは by Keith Packard around 2002; I took over in 2012, 追加するing --急速な/放蕩な-輸出(する) 方式 and later a 実験(する) 控訴.

rcs-急速な/放蕩な-輸入する

rcs-急速な/放蕩な-輸入する unpacks a git 急速な/放蕩な-輸入する stream into an RCS とじ込み/提出する tree I wrote this as a プロの/賛成のd at more 最近の and putatively more 前進するd 見解/翻訳/版-支配(する)/統制する systems that don't have .fi importers yet. If crufty old RCS can 輸入する these streams, why can't yours?

SRC

Simple 改正 支配(する)/統制する is RCS reloaded - a とじ込み/提出する-oriented 見解/翻訳/版-支配(する)/統制する system for 事例/患者s where you have lots of 選び出す/独身-とじ込み/提出する 事業/計画(する)s like HOWTOs or small scripts living in a 選び出す/独身 directory but don't want to commingle their histories. This time it has a decent modern UI 似ているing those of Subversion/git/水銀の. Also features integer sequential 見解/翻訳/版 numbering, embedded self-documentation, and very few switches :-).

ctopy

ctopy 自動化するs the parts of translating C source code to Python source code that are difficult for a human but 平易な for a machine. This 許すs a human programmer to concentrate on the nontrivial parts of the translation.

loccount

Count source lines of code (SLOC) and 論理(学)の lines of code (LLOC) in a sourve tree. Started out as a faster reimplementation of David Wheeler's sloccount, but now supports a richer feature 始める,決める and an absurdly large number of languages.

comparator

This program finds ありふれた code segments in large source trees very quickly. It may be useful as a plagiarism or copyright-違反 detector.

ascii

My 公共事業(料金)/有用性 for 陳列する,発揮するing 補欠/交替の/交替する 指名するs and notations of a given ASCII character, sort of an interactive 言及/関連 chart. Also handy as a quick base converter for byte values. There is a ポーランドの(人) 見解/翻訳/版.

cstrings

My handy little 道具 for internationalization. 抽出するs string constants from C sources and 生成するs in constant 指名するs, prepending an appropriate 始める,決める of #defines to the C source. Good support for incrementally trying out 転換s until you get what you want.

hexd

Everybody's favorite stupid 公共事業(料金)/有用性, a hex dumper. This one mimics CP/M's and MS/DOS's 捨てる 判型, either 選択s to do lots of other 半分-利益/興味ing things. Unusual of its 肉親,親類d in that it 扱うs EBCDIC (I needed this 能力 once for 推論する/理由s I've mercifully forgotten). Now with internationalization. (以前は just known as ‘hex’ and later ‘hexdump’ because I didn't know of the BSD 公共事業(料金)/有用性.)

sccs2rcs

A 転換 script that takes SCCS 見解/翻訳/版 histories and 地図/計画するs them into RCS histories (change comments 含むd). 要求するs the sccs(1) 公共事業(料金)/有用性 supported under BSD and SVr4, also csh. I didn't 令状 this, but I 直す/買収する,八百長をするd some portability bugs in it and 追加するd a useful 選択.

sed

This is the 急速な/放蕩な, small sed 初めは 分配するd in the GNU toolkit and still 分配するd with Minix. The GNU people 溝へはまらせる/不時着するd it when they built their own sed around an 高めるd regexp 一括 — but it's still better for some uses (in particular, faster and いっそう少なく memory-集中的な). Now 持続するd by René Rebe at Exactcode.

semex

Once upon a time, I decided I needed to understand the System V semaphore features. I wrote this exerciser to help me. Use it to learn, or as a semaphore 接近 method for shellscripts.

showkey

All this program does is read keystrokes and spit them 支援する at you in a simple, printable form. This is one of these silly little 公共事業(料金)/有用性s that you never think you'll need until some 予期しない 状況/情勢 pops up and you have to have it. Then you get to be mugged by the 詳細(に述べる)s of tty-interface code, yippee. Never again!

yacchack

My 一括 for YACC parser encapsulation. 許すs 多重の YACC parsers in a 選び出す/独身 program. Obsolete. really; Bison does this better.

pytogo

pytogo is a 急速な/放蕩な, 天然のまま, incomplete Python-to-Go 翻訳家 meant to 補助装置 a human programmer in translating large 容積/容量s of Python to idiomatic Go, 保存するing comments and structure. It does the mechanical things that are 平易な for ソフトウェア but hard for humans, leaving a human 解放する/自由な to concentrate on the hard parts like type annotations.

pytogo

A wrapper around git 非難する that shows lines-last-toched 統計(学) for every contributor. Optionally, 生成する a 報告(する)/憶測 that can be used in an Emacs 編集 衝撃を和らげるもの to step through 出資/貢献 禁止(する)d for all 使用者s or for a 明示するd 使用者.

装置 Drivers

(衆議院の)議長-1.4      (source)

My (衆議院の)議長 装置 driver for 386/486 boxes — 許すs you to play tunes on a PC-clone console (衆議院の)議長 under UNIX. An older 見解/翻訳/版 was 含むd with the NetHack 配当. This one has (untested) portability patches 与える/捧げるd by people who ported 1.3 to 386bsd and Linux. The (衆議院の)議長 driver used in FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD is a 子孫 of this code.

Games I've Written

ski

Imagine you are skiing 負かす/撃墜する an infinite slope, 直面するing such hazards as trees, ice, 明らかにする ground, and the man-eating Yeti! Unfortunately, you have put your jet-力/強力にするd skis on backwards, so you can't see ahead where you are going; only behind where you have been. However, you can turn to either 味方する, jump or hop through the 空気/公表する, teleport through hyperspace, 開始する,打ち上げる 核の 大陸間弾道弾s, and cast (一定の)期間s to call the 解雇する/砲火/射撃 Demon. And since the hazards occur in patches, you can skillfully outmaneuver them. A fun and very silly game that 証明するs you don't need fancy graphical 使用者 interfaces to have a good time. 初めは by 示す Stevans in FORTAN; I ported it from C and 追加するd color.

galaxis

My clone of Christian Franz's nifty little Macintosh game. Find the lifeboats 流浪して in interstellar space. Now with mouse support if you're using ncurses under xterm.

wumpus

A piece of retrocomputing archeology — my exact clone of the classic 追跡(する) The Wumpus game, 正確に/まさに as it first appeared in 1974. Also 含むs an 初めの but strangely 類似の game, superhack.

Games I've 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセスd On

I often 切り開く/タクシー/不正アクセス on 存在するing games to 改善する them. Here's a 選択 of my favorites, customized in さまざまな ways.

bs

The classic Colossal 洞穴 Adventure, shipped under an open-sourcer license with the 是認 of the game's 初めの authors. This is the 2.5 見解/翻訳/版 fromn 1995, sometimws called "430-point Adventure" - the last 見解/翻訳/版 the 初めの authors 解放(する)d. It plays 正確に/まさに like the 初めの but has been extensively refactored and 改善するd under the hood.

xlife-5.0      (source)

A 十分な-featured X 研究室/実験室 for the game of Life. This 見解/翻訳/版 has many features 追加するd since 3.0. Not least of these is my support for up to 8-明言する/公表する automata with 独断的な, editable 移行 (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs and color used to 陳列する,発揮する the 明言する/公表するs. 含むs 広範囲にわたる pattern libraries for both Life and the Codd 8-明言する/公表する automaton.

公式文書,認める that this link now points offsite. I 港/避難所't had enough time to 持続する this code, and have 手渡すd it off to Vol Litwr.

bs

My rewrite, with vastly 改善するd 審査する interface, of Bruce Holloway's 戦艦s game. Not a very 利益/興味ing game at that, the optimal 戦略 is too obvious — I just couldn't stand to leave the interface as mal-designed as it was.

bluemoon

My rewrite for ncurses of Tim Lister's enjoyable little Blue Moon solitaire. Has much better 審査する support. If you have a 十分に 最近の 見解/翻訳/版 of ncurses on an Intel box, it will even 陳列する,発揮する the IBM card-控訴 glyphs. (This used to be called just “blue”)

vms-empire

This is Chuck Simmons's C translations of VMS FORTRAN Empire, a solitaire 見解/翻訳/版. Nobody seems to be 持続するing it any more. I've colorized it and updated it for ANSI/POSIX C, and this 見解/翻訳/版 作品 with ncurses. The 1.2 見解/翻訳/版 追加するs some speedups and 訂正するs errors in the victory-半端物s (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する on the man page. 1.3 追加するs some GN U C cleanup. 1.4 追加するs an 選択 to 始める,決める the savefile 指名する. I've 改名するd the 事業/計画(する) to "vms-empire" so it won't be 混乱させるd with the several other empire 事業/計画(する)s out there, which are mostly (a)手の込んだ/(v)詳述する multiplayer 網状組織 games with X interfaces.

greed

I 追加するd color support and some polish to Matt Day's game. He dropped out of sight, so I 持続する it. 見解/翻訳/版 3.3 追加するs modern 一括ing.

tetrix

This game was 初めは Quentin Neill's UNIX port of an Amiga tetris. I colorized it and cleaned up some portability problems. This 見解/翻訳/版 作品 with Linux ncurses.

最高の 星/主役にする Trek

The classic 古代の FORTRAN game from the days of mainframes and minicomputers, reloaded — 保持するs かなりの play value even today.

Miscellanea

morse

morse is a Morse-code training program for aspiring 無線で通信する hams. It can 生成する 無作為の 実験(する)s or ふりをするd QSOs 似ているing those used in the ARRL 実験(する) (a QSO 発生させる人(物) is 含むd). There are a plethora of 選択s to 変化させる the training method. In one of the simpler 方式s, this program will take text from 基準 input and (判決などを)下す it as Morse-code beeps.

取引,協定

A little program that 計算するs (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs of 非,不,無-交替/補充 probabilities (as in, card draws from a 魔法: The 集会 deck). The mathematical guts are from Jeremy York's `cardprobs', but this has a vastly 改善するd interface and (gasp!) documentation. 見解/翻訳/版 2.0 追加するs more 能力s.

xve

X ビデオ Explorer, help for people trying to configure ビデオ タイミングs for XFree86. You'll need the Hitchhiker's Guide To X386 ビデオ タイミング to use this. It's pretty obsolete; use kvideogen instead.

letterize

This program helps you find letter mnemonics for phone numbers by filtering them for pronounceability. Typically, it gives you only the best few hundred of nineteen-thousand-半端物 可能性s.

mstrans

A 道具 for きれいにする up とじ込み/提出するs transferred from MS-DOS; it can (土地などの)細長い一片 CRs, 除去する 追跡するing ^Z characters, etc. With an 選択, it will put in CRs for とじ込み/提出するs that need to go in the other direction. It can also (土地などの)細長い一片 meta bits, in 事例/患者 your とじ込み/提出する was a WordStar 文書. Finally, it can do appropriate filename mapping.

pmtools      (source)

A 始める,決める of modem-管理/経営 道具s, written in 推定する/予想する, for the Livingston Portmaster 終点 server. What these help you do is ギャング(団)-program the modems, or ギャング(団)-捨てる their 登録(する) settings for comparison. One of them, pmpersist, can be used while your PM is active; it keeps 宙返り飛行ing through your 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) of modems re-programming idle ones until all have been touched. These 道具s can 扱う 多重の modem types.

Other peoples' ソフトウェア

I have a lot of stuff in Emacs, 含むing the VC 方式 that 前線-ends for RCS/SCCS/CVS and the Grand 統一するd Debugger 方式 that lets you 運動 GNU gdb and other 象徴的な debuggers from within Emacs. (許可,名誉などを)与えるing to RMS's credit 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる), I appear to have more Emacs Lisp code in the 基準 Emacs 配当 than anyone else but him.

I have 与える/捧げるd 相当な code and documentation to the 基準 環境 of the Python language. The 地位,任命する-1.5.1 見解/翻訳/版s of the 基準 rfc822.py, cmd.py, sendmail.py, and multifile.py modules have my work in them. I wrote shlex.py, and netrc.py 完全な. I have also 与える/捧げるd to the Python Image Library; my pildriver image-calculator script is 含むd in it. In July 2000 I was given 令状 接近 to the Python CVS repository, and am now 公式に a co-developer of the language.

I've 与える/捧げるd to GNOME. The NETLoad applet code was 地雷; I also taught gnome-card how to do 部類s, and 追加するd the 最高の-安全な 選択 to gnobots and gnobotsII.

I've 与える/捧げるd to gnuplot, 特に in the PNG driver.

I've 与える/捧げるd 相当な code to the PNG library (含むing the chunk support for iTXt, iCCP, sPLT, sCAL and the high-level interface 経由で png_read_pmng and png_write_png), and am a credited coauthor.

I wrote the @偽名,通称 and @definfoenclose features of Texinfo.

I designed the Trove 分類 system used at SourceForge, Freecode, and どこかよそで. I'm sort of the architectural grandaddy of SourceForge; the lead architect of that system, Drew Streib, 解除するd a lot of idea and even his database schemas from the Trove design 文書.

I wrote the pic2graph and eqn2graph scripts 含むd in groff. I also wrote the PIC 手動式の 含むd in the groff 配当.

I wrote the svncutter 道具 that's part of Subversion contrib/.

I wrote the rbgen code 発生させる人(物) that appears in 1.3 and later 見解/翻訳/版s of Damian Ivereigh's libredblack library, a neat little bit of code for doing B-trees.

I 共同製作するd with Christian Reis on bugzilla-服従させる/提出する.

One way or another, I have a couple meg of code and documentation in the 核心 toolset of every general-目的 Linux and BSD 配当 in 存在.

一括s I No Longer 持続する

fetchmail

This is a 十分な-featured, 強健な and very configurable POP2/POP3/APOP/IMAP mail forwarder. It's designed to 選ぶ up mail from a mail server host and 配達する it just as though it had arrived on your (弁護士の)依頼人 machine 経由で SMTP.

bogofilter

A C 実施 of a 急速な/放蕩な Bayesian spam filter along the lines 示唆するd by LISP wizard Paul Graham. I wrote this, but passed the 事業/計画(する) lead along in 2003.

Past 共同s

In 1991 I 共同製作するd with Ray Gardner on a simple hypertext browser for the Jargon とじ込み/提出する, called vh for "volks-hypertext". Tim Berners-物陰/風下 noticed it and sent me email 公式文書,認めるing that he was working on some hypertext things and 示唆するing we 協力する, but never replied to my reply. A year or so later he invented the World Wide Web and made vh 完全に obsolete. I have 孤立した it.

Years ago, I wrote a lot of code for the nethack game; blindfolds were my 発明, and my 指名する is still on the nethack 手動式の. However, I'm no longer active with the nethack devteam.

I was a 上級の developer on the 戦う/戦い For Wesnoth fantasy 戦略 game.
