Mozilla All 手渡すs
Today, from across the world, Mozillians are 集会 in San Francisco for our six-月毎の All 手渡すs. For obvious 推論する／理由s, I won’t be able to be there, so I want to wish all the best to everyone, and I am 確信して that more awesome ideas for 激しく揺するing the 解放する／自由な web will 現れる from their 審議s. Each year brings different grey clouds to the sky, and 要求するs us to adjust our 戦略 and 策略 to を取り引きする new 脅しs. Some we 勝利，勝つ and a few we lose, but it’s （疑いを）晴らす that the world and the web are much better places with Mozilla in them fighting for what is 権利.
A 事例／患者 for the Total 廃止 of ソフトウェア 特許s
A little while 支援する, I wrote a piece 輪郭（を描く）ing the 事例／患者 for the total 廃止 (or 非，不，無-introduction) of ソフトウェア 特許s, as seen through the レンズ of “促進するing 革新”. Few of the arguments are new, but the “狭くする Road to 特許 Goodness” 贈呈 of the （警察などへの）密告，告訴（状） is やめる novel as far as I know, and may form a good basis for anyone trying to explain all the possible problems with ソフトウェア (or other) 特許s.

In the Navel of the Moon
Question: which country’s 指名する translates literally as “In the Navel of the Moon”?
I recently （機の）カム across this fascinating 地図／計画する which gives the literal translation of every country 指名する. Some are very 歩行者, but some are fascinating. (I’m not sure why it’s on a 場所／位置 献身的な to comparing credit cards, but other places I’ve 設立する it give them the credit. If this is an SEO thing, I’m happy to reward them for producing decent content…) Most 適切な, Canada 明らかに means “The Village”…
Eurovision Bingo (yet again)
Some people say that all Eurovision songs are the same. That’s probably not やめる true, but there is perhaps a hint of truth in the suggestion that some 主題s tend to recur from year to year. Hence, I thought, Eurovision Bingo.
I wrote some code to analyse a directory 十分な of lyrics, 普通は those from the previous year of the 競争, and work out the frequency of occurrence of each word. It will then 生成する Bingo cards, with 始める，決めるs of words of different levels of commonness. You can then use them to play Bingo while watching this year’s 競争 (which is on Saturday).

わずかの Desktop 規模ing
In my last computer 昇格, I went from a Lenovo X240 (審査する 決意／決議: 1366×768 on a 12.5″ 陳列する，発揮する) to an X1 炭素 4th Gen (審査する 決意／決議: 2560×1440 on a 14″ 陳列する，発揮する). As it turns out, at its native 決意／決議 the Ubuntu まとまり desktop on the X1 炭素 is 簡単に too small to read. This wasn’t a problem until recently as I did most of my 計算するing with an 外部の 監視する. But now I find getting up 2 flights of stairs difficult, I’m doing a lot more using the built-in パネル盤, and experiencing this 問題／発行する. Fortunately, X11 as shipped in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS has some sort of support for desktop 規模ing. Unfortunately, it’s a bit rudimentary. I use a 規模ing of 1.38, but still find that some dialogs look shonky and I have to do extra 調整 for some apps. But it’s just about workable.
I am considering an 昇格 to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS where, famously, they have switched from まとまり 支援する to GNOME. GNOME does not support わずかの 規模ing with X11 – you can only 規模 in whole numbers. It does do it with Wayland, 実験的に, but Ubuntu decided (after giving it a go in the 実験（する） 解放（する）s) not to make Wayland the default for 18.04. I’d like to try this out, but the 指示／教授／教育s I 設立する online to do so don’t work with the LiveUSB 見解／翻訳／版 – so I’d have to take the 急落（する），激減（する） before 存在 able to even try it.
So it seems I get the choice of 1x (everything too small) or 2x (everything too big). This is a 重要な loss of functionality; the X1 炭素 comes with 審査する 選択s of 2560×1440 and 1920×1080, and it perversely makes me think I would have been better off getting the one with the lower 決意／決議 審査する! As it is, using 2x gives an 効果的な 決意／決議 of 1280×720, which is lower than the 決意／決議 of the X240 I used to use. The loss of vertical 高さ is a particular 苦痛 point.
Can any reader of my blog 示唆する a way to solve or mitigate this problem? Is there a “compact” 主題 for GNOME that still looks like まとまり? Are there ways of setting particular apps, like Firefox, Thunderbird or LibreOffice, to use いっそう少なく space or have a default zoom?
棺 Fits
One 公正に／かなり ありふれた need when someone dies is a 棺. There are さまざまな sorts on the market, from bamboo eco-棺s to embarrassingly-tasteless photo wraparounds to 激しい walnut ones with carved panelling, which seems rather overkill for something which is to be 観察するd once and then buried 地下組織の. I was discussing this with my father when he remembered that he 現実に has several 始める，決めるs of what are called 棺 “blanks” 蓄える／店d away in a roof space. A 棺 blank is 基本的に an uncustomised 棺 – the 最高の，を越す and 底（に届く） are 十分な size, waiting to be 削減（する） to fit, and the 始める，決める 含むs the necessary extra pieces (味方するs and 削減する) to make it up.
When the 地元の joiner in our home village retired 15+ years ago (and the 職業s of joiner and undertaker were the same 職業 for many centuries) he had several 始める，決めるs of blanks spare, and my father 得るd these from him and 蓄える／店d them. They are made of elm, which is a 伝統的な 構成要素 for 棺s but is now almost never used since Dutch Elm 病気 荒廃させるd the British 全住民 of elm trees in the 70s and 80s.
We 設立する a joiner here in Loughborough with experience of making up 棺s (although he says this is the first time he’s been （売買）手数料，委託（する）／委員会／権限d to do one by the 結局の occupant!). We had the blanks shipped to him, and I sent him my 高さ and shoulder width. On Wednesday, we went to 見解（をとる） the result. Elm is rather a “wibbly” 支持を得ようと努めるd, as can be seen from the first photo below, which means it’s 比較して hard to work but also means it has lovely 穀物s which come up beautifully when polished. Eggshells and Frailty
In the past seven years or so I’ve got into creating decorated blown eggs, first with a 伝統的な Ukranian wax-resist method called Pysanka, and later with an EggBot. It takes a few hours to do a pysanka so, since starting a family, finding enough time is difficult, but 復活祭 is often both an appropriate moment and a period with enough space. Last year I taught William (then 5) and this year I’ve taught John (now 5). Here are the results from this 週末:
John’s is on the left, then William’s, then 地雷. I pencil out the designs on the eggs for them, in William’s 事例／患者 によれば his specification, and then they try and follow them with the heated wax pen (called a kistka), with 変化させるing levels of dexterity and success. Still, even a 不安定な 手渡す produces やめる beautiful results, I think.
One thing which 控訴，上告s to me about this art is that it produces artifacts which are both beautiful and very 壊れやすい – like human 存在s. Paul 令状s, using a 類似の analogy: “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-より勝るing 力／強力にする is from God and not from us.” The treasure is the gospel, and we are the jars of clay – weak 大型船s who can do nothing by themselves but can, with God’s help, にもかかわらず powerfully 向こうずね God’s light into the world.
Recently, I was reading a sermon on death by Charles Spurgeon, a 公式文書，認めるd 19th century London preacher, sent to me by a friend. I’ve not read much or any of his work before; he is certainly a man who can turn a phrase. His text was: “The last enemy to be destroyed is death“. As I ますます bump into 思い出の品s of my own fragility and frailty, and know that my own 遭遇（する） with it is not so far away, is was good to be reminded that for those with the hope of eternal life, our 態度 to death is 完全に transformed. The second 詩（を作る） of a famous 復活祭 hymn, which I hope to have sung at my burial, sums it up 井戸／弁護士席:
Lo, Jesus 会合，会うs us,
Risen from the tomb;
Lovingly he 迎える／歓迎するs us,
Scatters 恐れる and gloom;

And since that memorable victory, every day Christ is 打ち勝つing death, for He gives His Spirit to His saints and having that Spirit within them they 会合，会う the last enemy without alarm. Often they 直面する him with songs. Perhaps more frequently they 直面する him with 静める countenance and 落ちる asleep with peace. I will not 恐れる you, death, why should I? You look like a dragon, but your sting is gone! Your teeth are broken, oh old lion, why should I 恐れる you? I know you are no more able to destroy me, but you are sent as a messenger to 行為／行う me to the golden gate wherein I shall enter and see my Saviour’s 明かすd 直面する forever!
Happy Birthday, Mozilla
Mozilla is 20 today. Most of what can be said about that has been ably said by others, some of whom have been 伴う／関わるd for even longer than the 18 years I managed. Asa and I started at 概略で the same time, but at least Mitchell, Myk and dmose have been around longer and are still 伴う／関わるd. (陳謝s if I’ve forgotten someone.)
As most of you know, I probably won’t be around to see much more of it, but (this will seem trite if it’s not to seem big-長，率いるd!) Mozilla is much more than one or even a few people. There will always be a Mozilla as long as there is an Internet and people who care about people on it. In that vein, let me also say that I’m 絶対 delighted with the final 結果 of the worldview 事業／計画（する）. The four items in the addendum to the Manifesto are admirable goals to 目的（とする） for, and ones I 是認する wholeheartedly.
Lunar Construction
A thought: the moon has water ice and a dusty surface (regolith). Could you use a 構成要素 akin to Pykrete (a 合成物 of ice and 支持を得ようと努めるd 低俗雑誌 about as strong as 固める／コンクリート, and stable at -15C) to create building 封鎖するs for lunar habitations in 溶岩 tubes, where the 気温 is stable and at the 訂正する 範囲 for the Pykrete-alike to also be stable (-20C)? Making it would be trivial and only 伴う／関わる raw 構成要素s which were 現在の – melt water in lunar daytime, 追加する dust and 動かす, 凍結する it at lunar night into whatever 形態／調整 you want. Even if the habitat were built from 封鎖するs, it could be made airtight by spraying the inside with pure water to create a その上の thin and 完全にする 層 of ice. Or, you could just inflate something inside it.
Poetic License
I 設立する this when going through old 文書s. It looks like I wrote it and never 地位，任命するd it. Perhaps I didn’t consider it finished at the time. But looking at it now, I think it’s good enough to 株. It’s a redrafting of the BSD licence, in poetic form. Maybe I had 計画（する）s to do other licences one day; I can’t remember.

Feeling Fraudulent
I いつかs feel a bit like a 詐欺.
Some of the time – when I climb stairs, or get into a coughing fit which takes 5 minutes to 回復する from, or can’t eat – it’s （疑いを）晴らす that I’m not 井戸／弁護士席. But at the 権利 time of day with the 権利 pills, I can sit in a 議長，司会を務める and 雑談（する） to a friend and feel 完全に normal. And so when my wife fetches me a drink from the kitchen, or someone else 急いでs to answer the door, I feel I want to say “No, please, I can do that for myself.” When I ordered a blue badge (a marker for your car 許すing you to use 無能にするd parking spaces), I felt that there must be many who are more deserving of one than I am.
But these feelings of wellness and fitness are really an illusion. Normality already 含むs having to を取り引きする 一区切り／（ボクシングなどの）試合s of 厳しい coughing, tiredness 要求するing 多重の naps per day, 支援する 苦痛, and shortness of breath. And, while さまざまな symptoms have come and gone (I had oedema in my 脚s, then didn’t, and now do again but いっそう少なく 堅固に) the general 傾向 is （疑いを）晴らす if you look dispassionately. The fact that I can have short periods where 非，不，無 of the symptoms are bothersome doesn’t mean they aren’t there. So why is my heart so keen to believe that the feelings of wellness are real?
As God would have it, we had a sermon today at The （人が）群がるd House, Loughborough (on Romans 3:27-31) which touched on this. The root of these 願望（する）s is the sin of pride. I want to feel 独立した・無所属, in 支配（する）／統制する, 自治権のある, competent, normal. That makes me feel good. But God has made us to be 扶養家族 存在s – まず第一に／本来 on him but also on each other – and to find our contentment in him, not in our health or strength. And it seems he is teaching me to depend on him more, both by having to pray for the strength to make it through each day, but also having to graciously 受託する the fact that I am ever more 扶養家族 on others.
In a 詩（を作る） which has been important to me ever since I was 診断するd 18 years ago, God 約束s that in all things he will “work for the good of those who love him, who have been called によれば his 目的” (Romans 8:28). In other words, I have 癌 for my own good. Here is yet another way, the 最新の in a line of many, where God is 論証するing that he is using it to make me, slowly and いつかs painfully, more like Christ, for his glory.
