The Hippocratic 誓い and 法律

About this text.

  The 誓い

I 断言する by Apollo the 内科医, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-傷をいやす/和解させる, and all the gods and goddesses, that, によれば my ability and judgment, I will keep this 誓い and this 規定 - to reckon him who taught me this Art 平等に dear to me as my parents, to 株 my 実体 with him, and relieve his necessities if 要求するd; to look upon his offspring in the same 地盤 as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without 料金 or 規定; and that by precept, lecture, and every other 方式 of 指示/教授/教育, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a 規定 and 誓い によれば the 法律 of 薬/医学, but to 非,不,無 others. I will follow that system of regimen which, によれば my ability and judgment, I consider for the 利益 of my 患者s, and 棄権する from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly 薬/医学 to any one if asked, nor 示唆する any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With 潔白 and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not 削減(する) persons laboring under the 石/投石する, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the 利益 of the sick, and will 棄権する from every voluntary 行為/法令/行動する of mischief and 汚職; and, その上の from the seduction of 女性(の)s or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in 関係 with my professional practice or not, in 関係 with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this 誓い unviolated, may it be 認めるd to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, 尊敬(する)・点d by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and 侵害する/違反する this 誓い, may the 逆転する be my lot!

The 法律

薬/医学 is of all the Arts the most noble; but, not withstanding, 借りがあるing to the ignorance of those who practice it, and of those who, inconsiderately, form a judgment of them, it is at 現在の far behind all the other arts. Their mistake appears to me to arise principally from this, that in the cities there is no 罰 connected with the practice of 薬/医学 (and with it alone) except 不名誉, and that does not 傷つける those who are familiar with it. Such persons are like the 人物/姿/数字s which are introduced in 悲劇s, for as they have the 形態/調整, and dress, and personal 外見 of an actor, but are not actors, so also 内科医s are many in 肩書を与える but very few in reality.

2. Whoever is to acquire a competent knowledge of 薬/医学, せねばならない be 所有するd of the に引き続いて advantages: a natural disposition; 指示/教授/教育; a 都合のよい position for the 熟考する/考慮する; 早期に tuition; love of labor; leisure. First of all, a natural talent is 要求するd; for, when Nature …に反対するs, everything else is in vain; but when Nature leads the way to what is most excellent, 指示/教授/教育 in the art takes place, which the student must try to appropriate to himself by reflection, becoming an 早期に pupil in a place 井戸/弁護士席 adapted for 指示/教授/教育. He must also bring to the 仕事 a love of labor and perseverance, so that the 指示/教授/教育 taking root may bring 前へ/外へ proper and abundant fruits.

3. 指示/教授/教育 in 薬/医学 is like the culture of the 生産/産物s of the earth. For our natural disposition is, as it were, the 国/地域; the tenets of our teacher are, as it were, the seed; 指示/教授/教育 in 青年 is like the 工場/植物ing of the seed in the ground at the proper season; the place where the 指示/教授/教育 is communicated is like the food imparted to vegetables by the atmosphere; diligent 熟考する/考慮する is like the cultivation of the fields; and it is time which imparts strength to all things and brings them to 成熟.

4. Having brought all these requisites to the 熟考する/考慮する of 薬/医学, and having acquired a true knowledge of it, we shall thus, in traveling through the cities, be esteemed 内科医s not only in 指名する but in reality. But inexperience is a bad treasure, and a bad 基金 to those who 所有する it, whether in opinion or reality, 存在 devoid of self-依存 and contentedness, and the nurse both of timidity and audacity. For timidity betrays a want of 力/強力にするs, and audacity a want of 技術. There are, indeed, two things, knowledge and opinion, of which the one makes its possessor really to know, the other to be ignorant.

5. Those things which are sacred, are to be imparted only to sacred persons; and it is not lawful to 輸入する them to the profane until they have been 始めるd in the mysteries of the science.

公式文書,認める:

This is Francis Adams' translation of the 誓い that erroneously has been せいにするd to Hippocrates. It was probably written some time between the sixth century BCE and the fourth century CE, while Hippocrates lived around 460-380 BCE. It is much 審議d whether all or even any of the texts in the corpus hippocraticum were written by Hippocrates. Some things in the 誓い are not 一貫した with other 作品 associated with Hippocrates, such as the 禁止(する) on 自殺 and abortion. The 誓い was 過激な not just for this but also since it 強調する/ストレスd the 忠義 に向かって the 患者 more than the esprit de 軍団 の中で fellow 内科医s, although the devotion between pupil and teacher is 堅固に 強調するd. /KET
