Modern 奇蹟 Men

Dr. Charles Northen, who builds health from the ground up

By Rex Beach (US 上院 文書 No 264, 1936)

About this text.

This 静かな, unballyhooed 開拓する and genius in the field of 栄養 論証するs that countless human ills 茎・取り除く from the fact that 貧窮化した 国/地域 of America no longer 供給するs 工場/植物 foods with the mineral elements 必須の to human nourishment and health! To 打ち勝つ this alarming 条件, he doctors sick 国/地域s and, by seeming 奇蹟s, raises truly healthy and health-giving fruits and vegetables

Do you know that most of us today are 苦しむing from 確かな dangerous diet 欠陥/不足s which cannot be 治療(薬)d until the 使い果たすd 国/地域s from which our foods come are brought into proper mineral balance?

The alarming fact is that foods - fruits and vegetables and 穀物s - now 存在 raised on millions of acres of land that no longer 含む/封じ込めるs enough of 確かな needed minerals, are 餓死するing us - no 事柄 how much of them we eat!

”The alarming fact is that foods - fruits and vegetables and 穀物s - now 存在 raised on millions of acres of land that no longer 含む/封じ込めるs enough of 確かな needed minerals, are 餓死するing us - no 事柄 how much of them we eat!”

This talk about minerals is novel and やめる startling. In fact, a 現実化 of the importance of minerals in food is so new that the textbooks on nutritional dietetics 含む/封じ込める very little about it. にもかかわらず, it is something that 関心s all of us, and the その上の we delve into it the more startling it becomes.

You'd think, wouldn't you, that a carrot is a carrot - that one is about as good as another as far as nourishment is 関心d? But it isn't; one carrot may look and taste like another and yet be 欠如(する)ing in the particular mineral element which our system 要求するs and which carrots are supposed to 含む/封じ込める. 研究室/実験室 実験(する)s 証明する that the fruits, the vegetables, the 穀物s, the eggs and even the milk and the meats of today are not what they were a few 世代s ago. (Which doubtless explains why our forefathers 栄えるd on a 選択 of foods that would 餓死する us!) No man of today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to 供給(する) his system with the mineral salts he 要求するs for perfect health, because his stomach isn't big enough to 持つ/拘留する them! And we are running to big stomachs.

No longer does a balanced and fully nourishing diet consist 単に of so many calories or 確かな ビタミンs or a 直す/買収する,八百長をするd 割合 of starches, proteins, and carbohydrates. We now know that it must 含む/封じ込める, in 新規加入, something like a 得点する/非難する/20 of mineral salts.

It is bad news to learn from our 主要な 当局 that 99 パーセント of the American people are deficient in these minerals, and that a 示すd 欠陥/不足 in any one of the more important minerals 現実に results in 病気. Any upset of the balance, any かなりの 欠如(する) of one or another element, however microscopic the 団体/死体 必要物/必要条件 may be, and we sicken, 苦しむ, 縮める our lives.

This 発見 is one of the 最新の and most important 出資/貢献s of science to the problem of human health.

So far as the 記録,記録的な/記録するs go, the first man in this field of 研究, the first to 論証する that most human foods of our day are poor in minerals and that their 割合s are not balanced, was Dr. Charles Northen, an Alabama 内科医 now living at Orlando, Fla. His 発見s and 業績/成就s are of enormous importance to mankind.

に引き続いて a wide experience in general practice, Dr. Northen 専攻するd in stomach 病気s and nutritional disorders. Later, he moved to New York and made 広範囲にわたる 熟考する/考慮するs along this line, in 合同 with a famous French scientist from the Sorbonne. In the course of that work he 納得させるd himself that there was little authentic, 限定された (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) on the chemistry of foods, and that no dependence could be placed on 存在するing data.

He asked himself how foods could be used intelligently in the 治療 of 病気, when they 異なるd so 広範囲にわたって in content. The answer seemed to be that they could not be used intelligently. In 設立するing the fact that serious 欠陥/不足s 存在するd and in searching out the 推論する/理由s therefor, he made an 広範囲にわたる 熟考する/考慮する of the 国/地域. It was he who first 発言する/表明するd the surprising 主張 that we must make 国/地域 building the basis of food building ーするために 遂行する human building.

"耐える in mind," says Dr. Northen, "that minerals are 決定的な to human metabolism and health - and that no 工場/植物 or animal can appropriate to itself any mineral which is not 現在の in the 国/地域 upon which it 料金d.

"When I first made this 声明 I was ridiculed, for up to that time people had paid little attention to food 欠陥/不足s and even いっそう少なく to 国/地域 欠陥/不足s. Men 著名な in 薬/医学 否定するd there was any such thing as vegetables and fruits that did not 含む/封じ込める 十分な minerals for human needs. 著名な 農業の 当局 主張するd that all 国/地域 含む/封じ込めるd all necessary minerals. They 推論する/理由d that 工場/植物s take what they need, and that it is the 機能(する)/行事 of the human 団体/死体 to appropriate what it 要求するs. 失敗 to do so, they said, was a symptom of disorder.

"Some of our 尊敬(する)・点d 当局 even (人命などを)奪う,主張するd that the いわゆる 第2位 minerals played no part whatever in human health. It is only recently that such men as Dr. McCollum of Johns Hopkins, Dr. Mendel of Yale, Dr. Sherman of Columbia, Dr. Lipman of Rutgers, and Drs. H. G. Knight and Oswald Schreiner of the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs Department of 農業 have agreed that these minerals are 必須の to 工場/植物, animal, and human feeding.

"We know that ビタミンs are コンビナート/複合体 化学製品 実体s which are 不可欠の to 栄養, and that each of them is of importance for the normal 機能(する)/行事 of some special structure in the 団体/死体. Disorder and 病気 result from any ビタミン 欠陥/不足.

"It is not 一般的に realized, however, that ビタミンs 支配(する)/統制する the 団体/死体's (資金の)充当/歳出 of minerals, and in the absence of minerals they have no 機能(する)/行事 to 成し遂げる. 欠如(する)ing ビタミンs, the system can make some use of minerals, but 欠如(する)ing minerals, ビタミンs are useless.

"Neither does the layman realize that there may be a pronounced difference in both foods and 国/地域s - to him one vegetable, one glass of milk, or one egg is about the same as another. Dirt is dirt, too, and he assumes that by 追加するing a little fertilizer to it, a 満足な vegetable or fruit can be grown.

"The truth is that our foods 変化させる enormously in value, and some of them aren't 価値(がある) eating, as food. For example, vegetation grown in one part of the country may assay 1,100 parts, per billion, of iodine, as against 20 in that grown どこかよそで. 過程d milk has run anywhere from 362 parts, per million, of iodine and 127 of アイロンをかける, 負かす/撃墜する to nothing.

"Some of our lands, even in a virgin 明言する/公表する, never were 井戸/弁護士席 balanced in mineral content, and unhappily for us, we have been systematically robbing the poor 国/地域s and the good 国/地域s alike of the very 実体s most necessary to health, growth, long life, and 抵抗 to 病気. Up to the time I began 実験ing, almost nothing had been done to make good the 窃盗.

"The more I 熟考する/考慮するd nutritional problems and the 影響s of mineral 欠陥/不足s upon 病気, the more plainly I saw that here lay the most direct approach to better health, and the more important it became in my mind to find a method of 回復するing those 行方不明の minerals to our foods.

"The 支配する 利益/興味d me so profoundly that I retired from active 医療の practice and for a good many years now I have 充てるd myself to it. It's a fascinating 支配する, for it goes to the heart of human betterment."

The results 得るd by Dr. Northen are 優れた. By putting 支援する into foods the stuff that foods are made of, he has 証明するd himself to be a real 奇蹟 man of 薬/医学, for he has opened up the shortest and most 合理的な/理性的な 大勝する to better health.

He showed first that it should be done, and then that it could be done.

He 二塁打d and redoubled the natural mineral content of fruits and vegetables.

He 改善するd the 質 of milk by 増加するing the アイロンをかける and the iodine in it.

He 原因(となる)d 女/おっせかい屋s to lay eggs richer in the 決定的な elements.

By 科学の 国/地域 feeding, he raised better seed potatoes in Maine, better grapes in California, better oranges in Florida and better field 刈るs in other 明言する/公表するs. (By "better" is meant not only an 改良 in food value but also an 増加する in 質 and 量.)

Before going その上の into the results he has 得るd, let's see just what is 伴う/関わるd in this 事柄 of "mineral 欠陥/不足s", what it may mean to our health, and, how it may 影響する/感情 the growth and 開発, both mental and physical, of our children.

We know that ネズミs, guinea pigs, and other animals can be fed into a 病気d 条件 and out again by controlling only the minerals in their food.

A 10-year 実験(する) with ネズミs 証明するd that by 保留するing calcium they can be bred 負かす/撃墜する to a third the size of those fed with an 適する 量 of that mineral. Their 知能, too, can be controlled by mineral feeding as readily as can their size, their bony structure, and their general health.

Place a number of these little animals inside a maze after 餓死するing some of them in a 確かな mineral element. The 餓死するd ones will be unable to find their way out, 反して the others will have little or no difficulty in getting out. Their dispositions can be altered by mineral feeding.. They can be made quarrelsome and belligerent; they can even be turned into cannibals and be made to devour each other.

A cageful of normal ネズミs will live in 友好. Restriet their calcium, and they will become irritable and draw apart from one another. Then they will begin to fight. 回復する their calcium balance and they will grow more friendly; in time they will begin to sleep in e pile as before.

Many backward children are "stupid" 単に becauce they are deficient in magnesia. We punish them for our 失敗 to 料金d them 適切に.

Certainly our physical 井戸/弁護士席-存在 is more 直接/まっすぐに 扶養家族 upon the minerals we take into our systems than upon calories or ビタミンs or upon the 正確な 割合s of starch, protein, or carbohydrates we 消費する.

It is now agreed that at least 16 mineral elements are 不可欠の for normal 栄養, and several more are always 設立する in small 量s in the 団体/死体, although their 正確な physiological 役割 has not been 決定するd. Of the 11 不可欠の salts, calcium, phosphorus, and アイロンをかける are perhaps the most important.

Calcium is the 支配的な 神経 監査役; it powerfully 影響する/感情s the 独房 形式 of all living things and 規制するs 神経 活動/戦闘. It 治める/統治するs contractility of the muscles and the rhythmic (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 of the heart. It also 調整するs the other mineral elements and 訂正するs 騒動s made by them. It 作品 only in sunlight. ビタミン D is its buddy.

Dr. Sherman of Columbia 主張するs that 50 パーセント of the Amerikan people are 餓死するing for calcium. A 最近の article in the 定期刊行物 of the American 医療の 協会 明言する/公表するd that out of 4,000 事例/患者s in New York Hospital, only 2 were not 苦しむing from a 欠如(する) of calcium.

What does such a 欠陥/不足 mean? How would it 影響する/感情 your helth or 地雷? So many morbid 条件s and actual 病気s may result that it is almost hopeless to catalog them. 含むd in the 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) are rickets, bony deformities, bad teeth, nervous disorders, 減ずるd 抵抗 to other 病気s, fatigability, and 行為 distrubances such as incorrigibility, assaultiveness, nonadaptability.

Heres one 明確な/細部 example: The 国/地域 around a 確かな Midwest city is poor in calcium.Three hundred children of this community were 診察するd and nearly 90 パーセント had bad teeth, 69 パーセント showed affections of the nose and throat, swollen (分泌する為の)腺s, 大きくするd or 病気d tonsils, More than one-third had 欠陥のある 見通し, 一連の会議、交渉/完成する shoulders, 屈服する 脚s, and anemia.

Calcium and phosphorus appear to pull in 二塁打 harness. A child 要求するs as much per day as two grown men., but 熟考する/考慮するs 示す a ありふれた 欠陥/不足 of both in our food. 研究s on farm animals point to a 欠陥/不足 of one or the other as the 原因(となる) of serious losses to the 農業者s, and when the 国/地域 is poor in phosphorus these animals become bone-chewers. Dr. McCollum says that when there are enough phosphates in the 血 there can be no dental decay.

アイロンをかける is an 必須の 選挙権を持つ/選挙人 of the oxygen-carrying pigment of the 血: アイロンをかける 餓死 results in anemia, and yet アイロンをかける cannot be assimilated unless some 巡査 is 含む/封じ込めるd in the diet. In Florida many cattle die from an obscure 病気 called "salt sickness."It has been 設立する to arise from a 欠如(する) of アイロンをかける and 巡査 in the 国/地域 and hence in the grass. A man may 餓死する for want of these elements just as a beef "critter" 餓死するs.

If iodine is not 現在の in our foods the 機能(する)/行事 of the 甲状腺 (分泌する為の)腺 is 乱すd and goiter afficts us. The human 団体/死体 要求するs only fourteen-thousandths of a milligram daily, yet we have a 際立った "goiter belt" in the 広大な/多数の/重要な Lakes section, and in parts of the Northwest the 国/地域 is so poor in iodine that the 病気 is ありふれた.

So it goes 負かす/撃墜する through the 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) each mineral element playing a 限定された 役割 in 栄養. A characteristic 始める,決める of symtoms, just as 明確な/細部 as any ビタミン-欠陥/不足 病気, follows a 欠陥/不足 in any one of them. It is alarming, therefore, to 直面する the fact that we are 餓死するing for these precious, health-giving 実体s.

Very 井戸/弁護士席, you say, if our foods are poor in the mineral salts they are supposed to 含む/封じ込める, why not 訴える手段/行楽地 to dosing?

That is 正確に what is 存在 done, or 存在 試みる/企てるd. However, those who should know 主張する that the human system cannot appropriate those elements to the best advantage in any but the food form. At best, only a part of them in the form of 麻薬s can be 利用するd by the 団体/死体, and 確かな dietitians go so far as to say it is a waste of 成果/努力 to fool with them. Calcium, for instance, cannot be 供給(する)d in any form of 医薬 with 継続している 影響.

But there is a more potent 推論する/理由 why the curing of diet 欠陥/不足s by drugging hasn't worked out so 井戸/弁護士席. Consider those 16 不可欠の elements and those others which 推定では 成し遂げる some obscure 機能(する)/行事 as yet undetermined. Aside from calcium and phosphorus, they are needed only in infinitesimal 量s, and the activity of one may be 扶養家族 upon the presence of another. To 決定する the 正確な reqirements of each individual 事例/患者 and to 試みる/企てる to 重さを計る it out on a druggist's 規模s would appear hopeless.

It is a problem and a serious one. But here is the 希望に満ちた 味方する of the picture: Nature can and will solve it if she is encouraged to do so. The minerals in fruit and vegetables are colloidal; i.e.,they are in a 明言する/公表する of such 極端に 罰金 中断 that they can be assimilated by the human system:It is 単に a qestion of giving 支援する to nature the 構成要素s with which she 作品.

We must 再構築する our sails; Put 支援する the minerals we have taken out. That sounds difficult but it isn't. Neither is it expensive. Therein lies the short 削減(する) to better health and longer life.

When Dr. Northen first 主張するd that many foods were 欠如(する)ing in mineral content and that this 欠陥/不足 was 予定 単独で to an absence of those elements in the 国/地域, his findings were challenged and he was called a crank; But differences of opinion in the 医療の profession are not uncommon - it was only 60 years ago that the 医療の Society of Boston passed a 決意/決議 非難するing the use of bathtubs - and he 固執するd in his 主張 that inasmuch as foods did not 含む/封じ込める what they were supposed to 含む/封じ込める, no 内科医 could with certainty 定める/命ずる a diet to 打ち勝つ physical ills.

He showed that the textbooks are not dependable because many of the 分析 in them were made meny years, ago, perhaps from 製品s raised in virgin 国/地域s, 反して our 国/地域s have been 絶えず 使い果たすd. 国/地域 分析, he pointed out, 反映する only the content of 見本s. One 分析 may be 完全に different from another made10 miles away.

"And so what?" (機の)カム the query.

Dr. Northen undertook to 論証する that something could be done about it. By reestablishing a proper 国/地域 balance he 現実に grew 軍団 that 含む/封じ込めるd an ample 量 of the 願望(する)d minerals.

This was incredible. It was cotrary to the 調書をとる/予約するs and it upset everything connected with diet practice. The scoffers began to 支払う/賃金 attention to him. Recently the Sauthern 医療の 協会, realizing the hopelessness of trying to 治療(薬) nutritional 欠陥/不足s without 肯定的な factors to work with, rekommended a careful 熟考する/考慮する to 決定する the real mineral content of foodstuffs and the variations 予定 to 国/地域 depletion in different localities. These 進歩/革新的な 医療の men are awake to the importance of 予防.

Dr. Northen went even その上の and 証明するd that 刈るs grown in a 適切に mineralized 国/地域 were bigger and better; that seeds germinated quicker, grew more 速く and made larger 工場/植物s; that trees were helthier and put on more fruit of better 質.

By 増加するing the mineral content of citrus fruit he likewise 改善するd its texture, its 外見 and its flavor.

He 実験d with a variety of growing things, and in every 事例/患者 the story was the same. By mineralizing the 料金d at poultry farms, he got more and better eggs; by balancing pasture 国/地域s, he produced richer milk. 断固としてやる he 大打撃を与えるd home to 農業者s, to doctors, and to the general public the thought that life depends upon the minerals.

His work led him into a careful 熟考する/考慮する of the 影響s of 気候, sunlight, 紫外 and thermal rays upon 工場/植物, animal, and human hygiene. In consequence he moved to Florida. People familiar with his work consider him the most 価値のある man in the 明言する/公表する. I met him by 推論する/理由 of the fact that I was 悩ますd by 確かな 国/地域 problems on my Florida farm which had baffled the best 化学者/薬剤師s and fertilizer 専門家s 利用できる.

He is an 年輩の, retiring man, with a warm smile and an engaging personality. He is a trifle shy until he opens up on his pet topic; then his diffidence disappears and he speaks with 当局. His mind is a storehouse crammed with 正確な, 科学の data about 国/地域 and food chemistry, the 複雑にするd life 過程s of 工場/植物s, animals, and human 存在s- and the 影響 of 栄養不良 upon all three. He is perhabs as の近くに to the secret of life as any man anywhere.

"Do you call yourself a 国/地域 or a food 化学者/薬剤師?" I 問い合わせd.

"Neither. I'm an M. D. My work lies in the field of biochemistry and 栄養. I gave up 薬/医学 because this is a wider and a more important work. Sick 国/地域s mean sick 工場/植物s, sick animals, and sick people. Physical, mental, and moral fitness depends 大部分は upon an ample 供給(する) and a proper 割合 of the minerals in our foods. 神経 機能(する)/行事, 神経 安定, 神経 独房-building likewise depend thereon. I'm really a doctor of sick 国/地域s."

"Do you mean to 暗示する that the vegetables I'm raising on my farm are sick?" I asked.

"正確に! They're as weak and undernourished as anemic children. They're not much good as food. Look at the pests and the 病気s that 疫病/悩ます them. Insecticides cost 農業者s nearly as much as fertilizer these days.

"A healthy 工場/植物, however, grown in 国/地域 適切に balanced, can and will resist most insect pests. That very characteristic makes it a better food 製品. You have tuberculosis and 肺炎 germs in your system but you're strong enough to throw them off. Similary, a really healthy 工場/植物 will pretty nearly take care of itself in the 戦う/戦い against insects and blights- and will also give the human system what it 要求するs."

"Good heavens! Do you relize what that means to 農業?"

"Perfectly. Enormous 貯金. Better 刈るs. Lowered living costs to the 残り/休憩(する) of us. But I'm not so much 利益/興味d in 農業 as in helth."

"It sounds beautifully theoretical and utterly impractical to me," I told the doctor, その結果 he gave me some of his 事例/患者 記録,記録的な/記録するs.

For instance, in an orange grove infested with 規模, when he 回復するd the mineral balance to part of the 国/地域, the trees growing in that part became clean while the 残り/休憩(する) remained 病気d. By the same means he had grown healthy rosebushes between 列/漕ぐ/騒動s that were riddled by insects.

He had grown tomato and cucumber 工場/植物s, both healthy and 病気d, where the vines intertwined. The bugs ate up the 病気d and 辞退するd to touch the healthy 工場/植物s! He showed me 利益/興味ing 分析 of citrus fruit, the chemistry and the food value of which 正確に 反映するd the 国/地域 治療 the trees had received.

There is no space here to go fully into Dr. Northen's work but it is of such importance as to 階級 with that of Burbank, the 工場/植物 wizard, and with that of our famous physiologists and nutritional 専門家s.

"Healthy 工場/植物s mean healthy people", said he. "We can't raise a strong race on a weak 国/地域. Why don't you try mending the 欠陥/不足s on your farm and growing more minerals into your 刈るs?"

I did try and I 後継するd. I was 工場/植物ing a large acreage of celery and under Dr. Northen's direction I fed minerals into 確かな 封鎖するs of the land in 変化させるing 量s. When the 工場/植物s from this 国/地域 were 円熟した I had them 分析するd, along with celery from other parts of the 明言する/公表する. It was the most careful and 包括的な 熟考する/考慮する of the 肉親,親類d ever made, and it 含むd over 250 separate 化学製品 決意s. I was amazed to learn that my celery had more than twice the mineral content of the best grown どこかよそで. その上に, it kept much better, with and without refrigeration, 証明するing that the 独房 structure was sounder.

In 1927, Mr. W. W. Kincaid, a"gentleman 農業者" of Niagara 落ちるs, heard an 演説(する)/住所 by Dr. Northen and was so impressed that he began 広範囲にわたる 実験s in the mineral feeding of 工場/植物s and animals. The results he has 遂行するd are 目だつ. He 始める,決める himself the 仕事 of 増加するing the iodine in the milk from his 酪農場 herd. He has 後継するd in 追加するing both iodine and アイロンをかける so liberally that one glass of his milk 含む/封じ込めるs all of these minerals that an adult man 要求するs for a day.

Is this 重要な? Listen to these incredible 人物/姿/数字s taken from a 公式発表 of the South Carolina Food 研究 (売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限:"In many sections three out of five persons have goiter and a 最近の 見積(る) 明言する/公表するs that 30 million people in the 部隊d 明言する/公表するs を煩う it."

Foods rich in iodine are of the greatest importance to these 苦しんでいる人s.

Mr. Kincaid took a brown スイスの heifer calf which was dropped in the stockyards, and by raising her on mineralized pasturage and a 適切に balanced diet made her the third かつてない 支持する/優勝者 of her 産む/飼育する! In one season she gave 21,924 続けざまに猛撃するs of milk. He raised her butterfat 生産/産物 from 410 続けざまに猛撃するs in 1 year to 1,037 続けざまに猛撃するs. Results like these are of incalculable importance.

Others besides Mr. Kincaid are に引き続いて the 追跡する Dr. Northen 炎d. 類似の 実験s with milk have been made in Illinois and nearly every fertilizer company is beginning to 勧める use of the rare mineral elements. As an example I 引用する from 声明s of a 子会社 of one of the 主要な 巡査 companies:

Many 明言する/公表するs show a 示すd 削減 in the 生産力のある capacity of the 国/地域 * * * in many 地区s 量ing to a 25 to 50 persent 削減 in the last 50 years * * *. Some areas show a tenfold variation in calcium, Some show a sixtyfold variation in phosphorus * * *. 当局 * * * see 国/地域 depletion, barren livestock, 増加するd human death 率 予定 to heart 病気, deformities, arthritis, 増加するd dental caries, all 予定 to 欠如(する) of 必須の minerals in 工場/植物 foods.

"It is neither a 複雑にするd nor an expensive 請け負うing to 回復する our 国/地域s to balance and その為に work a real 奇蹟 in the 支配(する)/統制する of 病気," says DR. Northen. "As a 事柄 of fact, it's a moneymaking move for the 農業者, and any competent 国/地域 化学者/薬剤師 can tell him how to proceed.

"First 決定する by 分析 the 正確な chemistry of any given 国/地域, then 訂正する the 欠陥/不足s by putting 負かす/撃墜する enough of the 行方不明の elements to 回復する its balance. The same care should be used as in 定める/命ずるing for a sick 患者, for 割合s are of 決定的な importance.

" In my 早期に 実験s I 設立する it extremily difficult to get the variety of minerals needed in the form in which I 手配中の,お尋ね者 to use them but 進歩 in chemistry, and expecially our ever-増加するing knowledge of colloidal chemistry, has solved that difficulty. It is now possible, by the use of minerals in colloidal form, to 定める/命ずる a cheap and 効果的な system of 国/地域 是正 which 会合,会うs this 決定的な need and one which fits in admirably with nature's 計画(する)s.

"国/地域s 本気で deficient in minerals cannot produce 工場/植物 life competent to 持続する our needs, and with the continuous cropping and shipping away of those concentrates, the 条件 becomes worse.

"A famous 栄養 当局 recently said, 'One sure way to end the American people's susceptibility to 感染 is to 供給(する) through food a balanced ration or アイロンをかける, 巡査, and other metals. An organism 供給(する)d with a diet 適する to, or preferably in exess of, all mineral 必要物/必要条件s may so 利用する these elements as to produce 免疫 from 感染 やめる beyond anything we are able to produce artificially by our 現在の method of immunization. You can't (不足などを)補う the 欠陥/不足 by using 特許 薬/医学.'

"He's 絶対 権利. 予防 of 病気 is easier, more practical, and more economical than cure, but not until foods are 標準化するd on a basis of what they 含む/封じ込める instead of what they look like can the dietitian 定める/命ずる them with 知能 and with 影響.

"There was a time when 医療の therapy had no 基準s because the 治療力のある elements in 麻薬s had not been definitely 決定するd on e 化学製品 basis. 製薬の houses have changed all that. Food chemistry, on the other 手渡す, has depended almost 完全に upon 政治の 機関s for its 研究, and in our real knowledge of values we are about where 薬/医学 was a century ago.

"病気 preys most surely and most viciously on the undernourished and unfit 工場/植物s, animals, and human 存在s alike, and when the importance of these obscure mineral elements is fully realized the chemistry of life will have to be rewritten. No man knows his mental or bodily capacity, how 井戸/弁護士席 he can feel or how long he can live, for we are all 手足を不自由にする/(物事を)損なうs and weaklings. It is a 不名誉 to science. Happily, that chemistry is 存在 rewritten and we're on our way to better health by returning to the 国/地域 the things we have stolen from it.

"The public can help; it can 急いで the change. How? By 需要・要求するing 質 in its food. By 主張するing that our doctors and our helth departments 設立する 科学の 基準s of nutritional value.

"The growers will quickly 答える/応じる. They can put 支援する those minerals almost 夜通し, and by doing so they can 現実に make money through bigger and better 刈るs.

"It is simpler to cure sick 国/地域s than sick people - which shall we choose?"

公式文書,認める:

For 10年間s several 研究員s and debaters have (人命などを)奪う,主張するd that 国/地域s were 使い果たすd during the last century to the extent that both vegetable and animal farm 製品s no longer 供給する us with ビタミンs and minerals enough for the 団体/死体 to 持続する 必須の 機能(する)/行事s, such as energy 生産/産物 or 免疫の 弁護.

によれば Bengt Lundegårdh, however, 研究員 at the Swedish University of 農業の Sciences in Uppsala, it is difficult to 証明する this 正確に, since we know very little about the 手段ing methods of earlier times.

In 1936 Rex Beach wrote the article above, "Modern 奇蹟 men", about scientist Charles Northen's 研究 on gastric 病気s and nutritional disorders. This article attracted much attention and was even submitted for discussion to the US 上院.

独立した・無所属 British 研究員 Anne-Marie Mayer accounts for a comparative 熟考する/考慮する in her article "Historical changes in the mineral content of fruits and vegetables" (British Food 定期刊行物, 99:6, 1997). Comparing the mineral contents of 20 vegetables and 20 fruits, 収穫d and 分析するd in the 1930's and the 1980's それぞれ, she finds statistically 重要な 削減s in the vegatables regarding contents of calcium, magnesium, 巡査, and potassium, and in the fruits regarding magnesium, アイロンをかける, 巡査, and potassium. The biggest change was 巡査 content in fruit, which had 減少(する)d to いっそう少なく than 20 パーセント of the old value. Anne-Marie Mayer 令状s:

"農業 which relies on NPK fertilizers and pesticides, that 追加するs little 有機の 事柄 to the 国/地域 and that 補欠/交替の/交替するs between 国/地域 compaction and ploughing, could produce food 使い果たすd in minerals. These practices 影響する/感情 the structure, chemistry and 生態学 of the 国/地域 in ways that could 影響する/感情 the availability of minerals to 工場/植物s and hence the mineral content of 刈るs. [...] Considering the magnitude of the 削減s this 事柄 deserves 緊急の attention."

Rex Beach's text above was submitted to the US 上院 as 文書 no 264, in June 1936, by a Mr. Fletcher. The article was 初めは published in Cosmopolitan, June 1936. The source used here is 上院 文書s 74-2. The 十分な citation reads:
